  1. I started this build a number of weeks ago and set it aside to go to something else. Since I'm between builds right now I decided to drag it out and see about finishing it. So, today it's done and ready for inspection. I didn't try to go all out on it, just finish it. Not too bad a 1/48 kit but some of the parts are a bit "thick" such as the lower landing gear doors which I replaced with sheet styrene. At any rate it's finished. There are some "warts" on the build but I'll live with it.
  2. Answer? I wasn't looking for answers, just trying to provide some modeling information for anyone building a P-39 or P-63. I'm very familiar with what you said in your post and was trying to provide a color "mix" for Bell Green. Maybe I should have said "I usually use Testor's but it would probably work okay with others." 🙄
  3. Looking at color photos in publications such as the "P-39 Airacobra in Detail and Scale" and on-line photos of both restored a/c and original color photos of P-39's you will see a green that is not the usual Interior Green and seems to only be used on Bell a/c. In the D&S book it is called "Bell Green" so, for want of a better description, that is what I call it. I thought I'd post some info here to shed a little light on that color since, as far as I know, there isn't a reference anywhere as to it's FS595 shade. Since I've built several P-39's and P-63's I decided I needed to find a "mix" that would approximate Bell Green. Here is my interpretation of the paints needed to make your own Bell Green. I expect some of you might disagree as to what the color actually is but bear in mind this is only MY take on it. You might want to go a different route.
  4. I just ordered a Tamiya Spit IX from Japan. Pretty good deal @ $79.96 for the kit with free shipping. Kit to arrive the week of April 29. I agree that RoG is a step or two ahead of Trumpeter. As a example, some Trumpeter kits, such as their P-40F, are pretty poor. And some are great ala their TBM's and SBD's. As they say, it's like a box of chocolates, etc. LOL In my estimation Tamiya and Hasegawa are two of the best model companies. I just wish they would resume their 1/32 a/c lines.
  5. Thank you Kevin. I'm pleased that you like it! I don't plan to buy any more Revell Spitfires due to the problems I had with this one. The wings to fuselage fit ought to be no trouble at all but it wasn't the case with this one unfortunately. I guess I'll stick with Tamiya's Spitfires in future.
  6. Thanks Dennis. I am glad you like the way it turned out.
  7. Thank you Peter. This one came close to staying on the SOD but I'm glad I could go on and get the problem sorted out. I like the way it turned out too.
  8. Finished with this build: https://forum.largescalemodeller.com/topic/20094-revell-spit-ix-rfi/
  9. All done with this one. After market items are Barracuda seat and exhausts, and Eduard seat belts. The decals are from the Kagero book on Polish Spitfires. Paints used were Tamiya acrylic, Testor's enamel, and Colourcoats enamel. After getting past the terrible fit of the wings to fuselage join things went fairly smooth. I hope you guys like the finished model!
  10. If I don't watch out you guys are going to convince me to get one! My plastic is already out of sight!🤪
  11. I'm glad to help Chris. You are welcome!
  12. Thank you Peter. I hope it is of some help at some point!
  13. Maybe this will help Chris. This technique will work on most any model that needs the wings adjusted.
  14. Lots of trimming, a bit of strip styrene, lots of putty, some CA adhesive and Zip Kicker, and LOTS of sanding. Oh, and a bit of a cuss factor! LOL I should have taken some photos as I went along but 20/20 is hindsight. If you ever build one be sure to tape the fuselage and wings together and do some test fitting. Trimming the wing to fuselage area is the main area to reduce. Or you can trim the wing roots. Just make it so there is a satisfactory dihedral and not a droop. I hope this helps!
  15. Their DSB (or GSB) whichever initials you want to use, is/was 1st class. Too bad it's discontinued. If I can find some on ebay or some place I'd scoop it up for sure. Their acrylic version is okay and seems to work just fine.
  16. Wing roots cleaned up. Now I can proceed with the rest of the build.
  17. Thank you. That was Testor's Model Master DSB which is very hard to find now.
  18. I'm glad you think so Peter but THAT remains to be seen. LOL
  19. Thanks Martin. I think it looks okay. I'm glad you like the way it turned out.
  20. Back to this build. When I test fit the wings to fuselage they drooped. Bummer. Thanks to some strip styrene and CA adhesive that's pretty well sorted out but now I have a fair amount of puttying and sanding to do. Not my favorite part of building a model!
