BlrwestSiR Posted July 15, 2023 Author Posted July 15, 2023 Sprue goo for the preliminary filling as well as strengthening of the joint. 2
BlrwestSiR Posted July 25, 2023 Author Posted July 25, 2023 More progress on the Tomcat. I finished the seam work and touched up the paint. I then finished painting the antiglare panel around the cockpit and the tips of the vertical tails base I then added the Pheonix pallets. Landing gear was next. Finally I did the detail painting and decal work on the missiles. I used Aim-7s and AIM-9s from a Tamiya F-4 kit. The Aim-54A Pheonix missiles are by Eduard. 4
Martinnfb Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 nice progress Carl, missiles look very convincing 👍 1
BlrwestSiR Posted July 25, 2023 Author Posted July 25, 2023 Thanks Martin! The original kit missiles were pretty plain, especially compared to the Eduard ones which is why I swiped replacements from the F-4EJ kit. 1
BlrwestSiR Posted July 25, 2023 Author Posted July 25, 2023 Finally on her legs. I gave the fuselage a light panel wash using Mig Storm Grey panel line wash. It's subtle but is there. 5
CANicoll Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 Carl, Looking Terrific and again, appreciate all the detail notes and photographs. Your dual-build is hilarious. Love it! Chris 1 1
BlrwestSiR Posted July 28, 2023 Author Posted July 28, 2023 Still plugging away at this. The HAD decal sheet doesn't include the Ejection Seat triangles so I tempted fate and used the kit ones. 40+ year old decals. I was surprised they didn't explode on contact with the water. 2
John_B Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 Looking Good, been following your progress. You have been putting in a superb effort. Thanks for sharing your work. John B 1 1
BlrwestSiR Posted August 1, 2023 Author Posted August 1, 2023 Gear bay doors and missiles are on. I started with the gear bay doors. Then the Pheonix went on. Lastly, I glued the AIM-9s and AIM-7s to the wing glove pylons. Then these went onto the fuselage. I painted the tires so those will be next. Right side up. 3
BlrwestSiR Posted August 5, 2023 Author Posted August 5, 2023 More progress on this build. The ejection seat pull rings are done. I used the kit ones as the Aires ones don't include them. First up was a base of yellow. Then I masked them off using 0.7mm tape. Sprayed the black and unmasked them. Finally cut off the kit part and glued onto the seats. I also did the tail hook at the same time. Can't believe how much is still left. I keep thinking I'm almost done and then find some more small bits. 1
Peterpools Posted August 5, 2023 Posted August 5, 2023 Carl Awesome progress - your Big Cat is looking fantastic. Yup, amazing the 40 plus year old decal didn't explode when hitting the water. Of course, being part of a Tomcat, it wouldn't dare.🍀
BlrwestSiR Posted August 7, 2023 Author Posted August 7, 2023 Last of the gear bits, finally. Got them painted and installed today. With those in, I installed the seats and canopy and it's finally done! We leave tomorrow for a week long camping trip so perfect timing. I'll take more pics when we're back. 3
