Revell FW-190D-9 Black 10

Recommended Posts

Since the 190A-7/8 build has crashed and burned I plan to build a companion kit, the 190D-9. Most of the parts are interchangeable so I haven't lost a good bit of the work done on the A. This is the one I plan on doing. A very good reference and I have the decals and paint colors on hand. :)

Nice choice of subject and you certainly did your homework. Going to be a terrific build and will be in my front row seat.

I feel like it will be a nice looking model Peter. I like that "Brown 18". :)

Got a good start on this one. I used the cockpit set that was on the A-7 as it was all done and fit just fine etc. Might be a little inaccurate for a D-9 but I DON'T CARE! :)

Looking seamless John is this a re-boxing by Revell or of their own production.I understand my Me-110 is a re-boxing of Dragons so I order the Dragon Quintas kit waiting for it to show up.;)

Yes, it's a re-boxing of the Hasegawa kit.:)

I've decided to change subjects. Since I built a D-9 in 2013 of the same unit (JG 26) with similar markings I think I'll do this a/c instead. Same unit but different markings, etc. Those are original Luftwaffe boots. I have another pair I'd sell. PM me if interested.

Been awhile since I’ve seen a big Dora, do you rate Hasegawa 32nd, never built any?

Hasegawa 1/32 kits are very nice with great detail. Fit is, for the most part, very good. Recommended. :)

At the painting stage! As some of you know RLM 84 has several variations of which I have posted three versions.  I chose to use the #3 version of the paint "chips" which is a old AeroMaster color. RLM 75 also has more than one version. For the under wings I chose to use version #1 from the paint "chips" which is White Ensign. For the upper wings I used version #2 which is another old AeroMaster color. I'll post a photo of the top sides when I've finished painting them.

Brilliant work and your research on colors is amazing. I'm happy to realize model paint companies have numerous interpretations of the RLM colors I'm using on my 109.

Are the color variations you are using due to model paint companies or what was done during the war as supplies of paint colors must have been hard to come by.

Thanks Peter.

It's some of both. During the war paint suppliers had different interpretations of what certain colors should look like plus there might be several different suppliers. It also depended on what they had available to work with. And there would be several different "companies" supplying a/c components which would lead to even more diversity, etc. About the same rule applies to model paint makers today although I don't think the supplies are as difficult to come by plus references are much more available, etc. :)

Camo painting done. Next will be a overall clear gloss in preparation for decaling. :) That light green RLM 82 sure looks unusual but will be fine after decaling, etc is done. (There is some confusion in references as to what is RLM 82 and what is RLM 83. Some say 82 is dark green while some say it's the light green. Same goes for the RLM 83. Go figure. I just go by photos and/or good artwork and make my own decision as to what's what, etc.)

Paint work looks smooth as can be. Looking so good.

Thank you Peter. I'm looking forward to applying the decals as I think they will really set it off nicely. :)
