The beauty of the decal markings is the checkerboard. How can they offer the decals without the highlight of the markings? DO they offer any suggestions or just assume the builder will make his own? As far as I can see there are no suggestions or recommendations. Pretty poor marketing so buyer beware! They should make it clear with capitol letters on the packaging that the checker board markings aren't included. Looks like false marketing to me. And yes, I'm PO'd! (This is my first set of Hussar decals and likely my last.) Right now I'm trying to figure out what to do.
Peterpools
John Right with you and I'll never buy anything from them.
JohnB
I have some decals for a Dragon kit that wasn't a good kit and I didn't build. This set of decals has the checker board design on it but in black/white. I'm going to try to do some photo shop work on it and see if I can change the black areas to dark blue. If that works out (fingers crossed) then maybe I can complete this build in the scheme I want. If not then I'll find a different scheme, etc.
Peterpools
John What a great find. Worse come to worse, just go with the B&W checkerboard.
belugawhaleman
Nice work John! Glad you found the decals. I hate to think of anyone trying to mask all those squares.

I'm waiting for some Inkjet decal paper to get here (Thursday). Then I can print out the checker board markings. If things go as planned I should have some useable decals and can finish the model. CANicoll
John, First off, wow! Amazing job on the cockpit - stellar work. Regarding the decals, OMG. I also would have thought the checkers would have been on the sheet. What a pain. Good luck!! I did a quick search and did not come up with checkers quickly.

I hope I can successfully photo shop these b&w ones but we will see. Sure P's me off at those people. There won't be any more Hussar decal purchases for me.
CANicoll
Me neither! I had not heard of Hussar before anyway.
JohnB
I figured it would be a good idea to paint the nose and rudder areas where the checks will go a gloss white. This should provide a good "base" for the photo shopped checks. Fingers crossed.

JohnB
I neglected to paint the cowl flaps white so I'll have to fix that today. This is the a/c I intend to finish it as. 🙂

JohnB
I hate to say it but it doesn't look like my photo shopped decals for the checker boards is going to work out. The white decal paper I printed them out on is extremely flimsy and wrinkles up at the slightest touch. I've tried a couple of approaches and it's still unsatisfactory (and that is on the easy part on the rudder). I hate to think what it would be like trying to get them on the cowling! If they weren't so flimsy then maybe it would work. I've considered going on and using the black & white set which would probably do okay but it's just not the way I want it to be. I'm setting the model aside for now but, from time to time, I'll re-visit the decal problem. Who knows, I might stumble on a workable solution some time.
JohnB
A word to the unwary. When I bought the Hussar decals for this build I wanted them for the a/c with the checker board rudder and cowling. When they were delivered there were no checker board decals included. I contacted the seller and his smart ass reply was that was noted in the decal sheet description on his ebay site. No offer for a refund or any helpful advice. I never saw that section of his sale post (2nd page). If I had I wouldn't have bought the decals. Here is his site. https://www.ebay.com/usr/hussarhobby
Peterpools
John Looking at the ebay page, I didn't see the second page either, so how would you know? Just don't understand why produce a decal sheet and leave off the checkerboard portion of the markings, which is the most important portion. Just doesn't make any sense.
BlrwestSiR
Disappointing that the checkerboard aren't included. Hopefully you can come up with a workable solution. I checked out the link and there is a small blurb that says no checkerboard included. But easy enough to miss. You have to click on Item Description from the seller and then it pops up.

In my very humble opinion I think they should print THAT in large black print and not the national insignia notice.
