KevinM Posted January 21 Posted January 21 I was over in Mobile at my LHS now HobbyTown and they had this kit 1/2 price @$42 .I know the kit has failings it seems but it really does not look that bad in the box and with Quintas it will be a big improvement on the pit.I already see some small thin wire on the joystick is in order the box cover of the a/c seems to my liking.I will try to take a few more pics as I build I am terrible at that hence the lack of builds from me being showcased. 5
BlrwestSiR Posted January 21 Posted January 21 I think the kit has a bad rep. I built one a few years ago and didn't have any issues with it. The biggest thing I found was making sure that the main gear bay casting is thin enough to fit under the cockpit. I didn't need much putty either. It certainly went together better than the PCM kit. Spitfire Posted January 21 Posted January 21 If it anything like the PCM kit then just some old school modelling skills should see a fine Hurricane appear. Cheers Dennis 2 1
KevinM Posted Monday at 12:25 AM Author Posted Monday at 12:25 AM Well Carl I don't know how you did it this kit has been fighting me tooth and nail every step of the way.The plastic is so brittle it's unreal the control stick broke into 4 pieces had to remake the handle looks like crap but so be it.I then went to assemble the cage for the seat studying pictures and alignment you know lack of holes even though we have these little pointy things to go somewhere I guess.....wrong.The other side of the cage had a hole but the bar for the compass now will not reach by a .015" I go for the in between solution it's holding. Also, notice no control stick it broke frigg'in again.I am not going to quit yet but this is suppose to be relaxing and fun not inventing new words. Oh Dennis a PCM kit is a walk in the park to this one done a couple of those. 3
BlrwestSiR Posted Monday at 12:49 AM Posted Monday at 12:49 AM Kevin, it looks like I may have cheated a bit. I subbed some plastic rod I place of a couple of the kit parts. I was able to use the control stick. Also, I glued the fuselage halves together first and then inserted the cockpit in from underneath. I like PCM kits too. Built their Spitfire IX and Hurricane and have a few of their Spitfire XIVs in the stash. 1 1

Yeah Carl the instructions are really bad overall the rods for the stick that run under the seat it looks like you glue them to part under the seat OH No in step #3 or 4 the triangle piece for the compass now ...slides under said control arms.I had to unglue them and do the assembly may be why you made it out of sprue?and yeah the triangle compass piece cracked in the handling.Once I get pass the pit I think it will be better. 2
Spitfire Posted Monday at 09:45 AM Posted Monday at 09:45 AM Great perseverance, looks like this one will get built, don't know about the 3 that I have in the stash though. Cheers Dennis
