KevinM Posted January 21 Posted January 21 I was over in Mobile at my LHS now HobbyTown and they had this kit 1/2 price @$42 .I know the kit has failings it seems but it really does not look that bad in the box and with Quintas it will be a big improvement on the pit.I already see some small thin wire on the joystick is in order the box cover of the a/c seems to my liking.I will try to take a few more pics as I build I am terrible at that hence the lack of builds from me being showcased. 6
BlrwestSiR Posted January 21 Posted January 21 I think the kit has a bad rep. I built one a few years ago and didn't have any issues with it. The biggest thing I found was making sure that the main gear bay casting is thin enough to fit under the cockpit. I didn't need much putty either. It certainly went together better than the PCM kit. Spitfire Posted January 21 Posted January 21 If it anything like the PCM kit then just some old school modelling skills should see a fine Hurricane appear. Cheers Dennis 3 1
KevinM Posted January 26 Author Posted January 26 Well Carl I don't know how you did it this kit has been fighting me tooth and nail every step of the way.The plastic is so brittle it's unreal the control stick broke into 4 pieces had to remake the handle looks like crap but so be it.I then went to assemble the cage for the seat studying pictures and alignment you know lack of holes even though we have these little pointy things to go somewhere I guess.....wrong.The other side of the cage had a hole but the bar for the compass now will not reach by a .015" I go for the in between solution it's holding. Also, notice no control stick it broke frigg'in again.I am not going to quit yet but this is suppose to be relaxing and fun not inventing new words. Oh Dennis a PCM kit is a walk in the park to this one done a couple of those. 4
BlrwestSiR Posted January 26 Posted January 26 Kevin, it looks like I may have cheated a bit. I subbed some plastic rod I place of a couple of the kit parts. I was able to use the control stick. Also, I glued the fuselage halves together first and then inserted the cockpit in from underneath. I like PCM kits too. Built their Spitfire IX and Hurricane and have a few of their Spitfire XIVs in the stash. 3 1

Yeah Carl the instructions are really bad overall the rods for the stick that run under the seat it looks like you glue them to part under the seat OH No in step #3 or 4 the triangle piece for the compass now ...slides under said control arms.I had to unglue them and do the assembly may be why you made it out of sprue?and yeah the triangle compass piece cracked in the handling.Once I get pass the pit I think it will be better. 3
Spitfire Posted January 26 Posted January 26 Great perseverance, looks like this one will get built, don't know about the 3 that I have in the stash though. Cheers Dennis 1 1
KevinM Posted January 29 Author Posted January 29 Alright got the main components of the copit done and about to spray the primer then the RAF GreenGrey.I have the Quinta's kit for the inside and will use the etch as an outline to plastic card to which the Quinta's will be located seeing most of these are all black..I am thinking by the beginning of next week I should be pass the pit and onto the rest of the main assembly....the easy part 5
KevinM Posted February 1 Author Posted February 1 The pit is complete and the fuselage has been buttoned up it came out better than what was being perceived in my mine earlier this week. The Quintas helped quite a bit even though the IP pic sucks it was light years over the PE/film supplied.I did the seat belts a tad wrong but I liked the way they float so left will enough alone. Carl how did you go about the wing assembly follow the instructions?I am inclined to glue the upper wing to the fuse for a good joint and maybe better dihedral? This would be a first for me ever! Carl I figured it out attach the gear bay area then the upper wing later the lower. 4
BlrwestSiR Posted February 1 Posted February 1 Hi Kevin, Just like you said, I glued the lower centre wing part first and then added the upper wings. Here's a link to my build gallery so it doesn't clutter up your build thread. https://carlkung.smugmug.com/Hobbies/Hurricane-Mk-1 1
KevinM Posted February 2 Author Posted February 2 So the wings are on had a step on the R/side and a small seam on the L/side.Carl I had the same issue at the wing tip you had and the holes on the front of the wing not quite lining up.I sanded down the butt side that glues to the lower gear section till it all lined up.The tailplanes are built now as well as the rudder just not all ie attached.I like the way they did the landing lights with the bulb inside and then the cover. The kit in it first 48 hrs looking at the SOD I am glad that perseverance paid off the kit is not that bad good as PCM which I did not liken it to at the beginning. 5
KevinM Posted Thursday at 02:02 AM Author Posted Thursday at 02:02 AM The paint has been laid down and with some trepidation as to the scheme? The ASK decals showed what looked correct until you got to the R/side of the plane and then all of a suddenly the canopy went D.Earth and the camo did not line up with the L/side at all so I add hock.I think it came out looking pretty good thus far tons of shades for Azure blue go look went the darker it's what ASK showed? The livery will be S.African with the Gazelle up front L/side.I still have some PE on the tail and inside the canopy to do last things for sure. 5
DocRob Posted Thursday at 07:31 PM Posted Thursday at 07:31 PM Good you didn´t SOD her Kevin, your Hurricane looks great with the camo on. I built the Fly Arado 234 some years ago, a quite challenging kit, but after SOD-ing it twice, I pulled through and loved the result. Not the easiest kits, but rewarding in the end. Cheers Rob 1 1

KevinM Posted Sunday at 01:33 AM Author Posted Sunday at 01:33 AM The decals are complete with an overspray of Future and the final details are being worked out.I was painting the rear view mirror and it kinda stuck to the tweezers and I p/u the tweezers for something else forgetting and lost it!I have already started fashioning a new one which should be more in scale . 3

BlrwestSiR Posted Sunday at 02:39 AM Posted Sunday at 02:39 AM The cockpit is definitely the " do I push on or throw in the towel?" point in the build. Glad you stuck it out. 2
