benjaminsummerfield
Now Jeroen posted those walk around pictures I see what You mean. Hopefully I can reprofile it.
benjaminsummerfield
Another little detail HK have missed is the aperture for the gun camera, also there's a hole in the centre of the nose cap but I'm not sure what that's for. 5 minutes with a pin vise and...
One-Oh-Four
Very good work Ben! I really like the detailing results of the engine face behind the intakes! As for high speed silver: did you spray the White Alu over a black primer? If so, it needs quite a few layers to be opaque enough for the dark undercoat not to show through. You can try to spray the Alclad over a coat of Tamiya aluminium. Or use Mr. Metalcolor Aluminium or Chrome Silver? And where I got the Sabre-pic from: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/67690-gunze-mr-metal-color/

And where I got the Sabre-pic from: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/67690-gunze-mr-metal-color/ I used Alclad grey primer but it only had a few light coats as it's difficult to spray the inside of the intake, so it might not quite be the true colour. I've never used Gunze before, not that many options really as Humbrol metal cote doesn't spray very nicely and alclad don't really do a lighter shade than white aluminium. Revell has been recommended to me and now Gunze, I might have to review my options.

Dave J
Fantastic stuff Ben! Love the additions that you are adding to. HK provide a fantastic canvas to start with!
Wingco57
Ben, Thanks for the info on the camera aperture and the other hole. Will not do the camera bit at the stage I am in (homestretch) but drilling a hole in the nosecap is a no-brainer. Cees
benjaminsummerfield
Sorry for the lack of updates! It's been a month since my last post! I have been fettleing the Meatbox and it just needs some scribing and it's ready for paint, in the mean time I've made some internal exhaust ducts from rolled plastic card and used an old cone shaped board game piece as the exhaust cone. I've also improved the kit gunsight with some Albion tubing and plasticard and given it a proper glass lense, you can see the two reflector lenses still with the PVA drying.

benjaminsummerfield
Finally some progress! Decided on painting it Alclad dull Aluminium over alclad grey primer as I wanted to avoid the chrome/metallic look, happy with the result although it took a full bottle of Alclad to cover the pre-shading! I've just glossed it and that took about three good coats as well due to the dull finish.
Steve Scanlon
Really enjoying this one, everytime I go to the hobby store it sits there calling to me how long can I resist? quick question, If I build out of the box is it still a decent kit?
Wingco57
Steve, Yes, it is that good regarding buildability fun. It is a great canvas for a good model. Go for it. Ben, That looks seriously fantastic. Cees

Like Cees says it's superb, the surface detail is unreal I've yet to see a photo do it justice. It goes together really nicely too, zero fit issues. Just the price really but there are deals on it now.

Steve Scanlon
Have not managed to do a wingy thing for about thirty years, had a few attempts but failed. I am certain this is coming my way in a month or so I guess I will have to make a serious go of it when I get it, oops looks like I have already decided

benjaminsummerfield
I haven't forgotten about this build, I've been waiting for a decal sheet to be released from Kitsworld with a really nice 263sqn one I've always wanted to do since it featured on the classic airframe boxart. Well I got tired of waiting and ordered the Xtra Decal sheet even though it doesn't have any stencils at all, guess what got released two days later!! So I ordered the Kitsworld sheet too. They both arrived together this morning and I have to say I was really disappointed by the Kitsworld sheet, the decals themselves look like they were done on a home printer and the colours are weak, to add insult to injury they only give you the fuselage fighter bars for one side! I'd spotted this on their website a while ago and assumed this was why the sheet was delayed. It was a good job I ordered the xtra decal sheet! So my Meteor is now being finished as a 609sqn machine, I'm sure they'll issue a correction but ive waited long enough to finish this model. It's not all negative, the stencils are very good and apply nicely and have made the plain silver scheme look busier. Not much longer to run on this one! Administrators James H Posted June 25, 2014 Administrators Share Posted June 25, 2014 Just fantastic. I love that lustre you added to the silver paint. How did those stencils go?
benjaminsummerfield
Stencils went on nicely to be fair, a few more to do and it's Klear and wash time. Xtra decals were flawless as usual. I'm aiming for a slightly glossy finish when I'm done.
