When i first opened the box, i was suprised by the content and by the quality of the part's, decals and instruction book. The guy's from WNW sure now's how to develope and fabricate a excellent kit, great work guy's Ok, time to start my build progress. First the engine. I will build this machine : So, it's got the Mercedes D.III engine with 200 Pk horsepower. The springs on the kit part where replaced by Taures part's. And after some work, the engine look's like this Dry-fit of the resin manifold intake from Barracuda Cast The spark plug cables are lead wire 0.2 m/m Ok, not much, but it's a begin Greetz Danny Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Guest DannyVM Posted March 4, 2014 Share Posted March 4, 2014 Thank's Jonathan for the kind comment. next progress, or should i say, my first mistake with this kit. Thank's to Richard (rsanz, on the LSP forum), he pointed me out that i used the 160 Pk. timing gear instead of the 200 Pk (wich i use for the model). I had no idea when i ordered the Taurus resin set, that there are differences into the two engine types ......ok for this mistake i will put myself on water and bread as a punishment In front you see the Taurus part. Also the lifters are in the middle of the rocker boxes instead of at the side of the boxes (wich was typical for the 200 Pk engine). The kit part i will use is behind the Taurus part and is correct. Because of the wrong timing gear, the water pump was placed to far forward so it will conflict with the engine cowl later on. This had to be solved, so surgery had to be performed. Removal of the rocker boxes was no big deal, but the springs (Taurus) needed also to be removed because i wanted to use them again. After this was done with succes and without loss of any of the springs the correct kit part was placed together with the springs. Et voila, this will be much better. Today, the engine received his final paint and decals. Now he's waiting until tomorow for the wheatering proces. For now, i have allready some pic's for you guy's. The engine was first painted with Alclad aluminium, and after that the rest was brush painted with Vallejo Model color. Also the manifold intake was painted and received a wash. Today i put some paint on the cockpit part's, in preperation for the wood like threatment with oil paint. For the wood i used Light wood XF-78 and for the interior green i used XF-76. The ammunition box and empty belt box are painted with Alclad Aluminium. The canvas behind the pilot seat did also received a pre-paint in preperation for the lozenge decal. You may or may not be pleased to know that the Benz engine in the new D.VIb kit has moulded ignition wiring! You sure did a great job adding yours. I know how tedious it is to get it to look right. Look's very good in my opinion, and indeed it saves a painstaking work to scratch these wires. All cockpit part's are done, except for the frame with the canvas behind the pilot seat, that's for tommorow. Ok, here comes the pic's, First, fuselage side walls The pilot seat Afetr painting i noticed a little pin mark at the back of the seat, i will try to mask that with the seatbelts. Iff i look at the different photo's provided on the WNW website, i can not find the airspeed indicator on any of the strut's. Was this a common thing on Roland D.VIa, that there where no airspeed indicators provided, or where was it positioned?? Also, what kind of device is this?? It's not provided in the kit. Guest DannyVM Posted March 30, 2014 Share Posted March 30, 2014 This weekend i did the final work on the cockpit section. Some little detail painting and the rigging of the controle cables. This was done with the wonderfull elastic rigging wire from Ushi, for this i used the fine size. Also the canvas behind the pilot seat got a wash. HGW seatbelts are added to the pilot seat, and the engine is glued to the frame. the two side halfs of the fuselage received a wash from MIG dark wash and then got a Tamiya matt clear finnisch. Some dry-fit of the cockpit frame into the fuselage halfs. And finnaly cockpit and fuselage halfs glued together. Greetz DannyT Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
