And I soldier on...

bf109%20G-6%20white%2017-07_zpsef1wvmdt.

Done the mottling and the fuselage band.

While doing I noticed the HaD gruppe bar decal was too short, so I decided to mask and airbrush instead.

And...while doing that I decided to do the same with the national markings. A bit of salt involved also again.

First time I painted the markings, but it wasn't that difficult. I used insane amounts of Tamiya tape, so I might as well use after market masks next time. Likely easier also

And made up my mind about the WGr.21 tubes

bf109%20G-6%20white%2017-06_zpsy9td8vkx.

I'll use a 7.15mm aluminium tube and 1mm aluminium tube for the attachment points.

Also found a 1.0mm x 0.6mm brass L profile. To be used for the 3 internal guide rails.

Next: smaller bits and bobs...landing gear, prop, canopy, etc.

More soon!

Dear diary...

Sometimes things go wrong for reason: stupidity  :wallbash:

To my disgust I noticed I placed the right side national marking too high.

At first I thought: "ah well...it's not even 2 mm, so forget about it and move on"

But it annoyed me to bits and it's visible...specially when looked at from above, so I had to fix it.

bf109%20G-6%20white%2017-08_zpsy9qmrn5h.

bf109%20G-6%20white%2017-09_zpsltgjxavt.

bf109%20G-6%20white%2017-10_zps5u6gzihk.

I feel better now  :)

Next were the exhaust stacks...

bf109%20G-6%20white%2017-11_zpszjxs2zx7.

I don't think the Revell exhausts are bad, there's only so much you can do with injection molding. The shape is ok, so it's a start.

Opened with a small drill bit.

bf109%20G-6%20white%2017-12_zpsrxmm3bbj.

Made the weld seams and painted them.

bf109%20G-6%20white%2017-13_zpsgqo7cinz.

Dropped in place through the open front.

Note the rubber sealing strip mentioned before. Painted black grey.

On some photo's this strip is highly visible...not on others.

My guess is...the strips were factory painted with the rest of the plane, but paint doesn't stay on rubber very well and damaged strips got replaced with unpainted ones. also seen photo's with the strip missing...just a huge gap.

Now working on the Barracuda prop...

bf109%20G-6%20white%2017-14_zpsf1znvrkl.

Painted the blades dull aluminium, because cast aluminium has a grainy dull greyish look. Salt next.

Insert: the loop antenna. The bakelite base is too flat, so I beefed it up with a few layers of enamel paint.

Well...that was picture heavy and not even that much happened

More soon!

There is no cure for a 109 addiction

I'm already thinking about what to do next. So tempting to do another Revell G-6 or G-10....also have a 1/24 G-10 or K-4 whispering in my ear.

But...I also want to do the Dutch East Indies Brewster Buffalo or the D.XXI...and...and the Dragon 110D-3...and the Uhu.

Leaning towards the Buffalo, but....

Things go really slow now...even though I put much effort in it.

Behold the most scruffy workbench in model lala land

bf109%20G-6%20white%2017-15_zpsorexdfm9.

My desk is kinda small....I airbrush on the dining table.

No need to feel sorry for me though. I have my own room...just a small desk, but...

We ordered a new dining table and the old one will replace my desk. The old table is 2.2 metres long!

Can't wait for a decent hobby space....soon!

bf109%20G-6%20white%2017-17_zpsl46aqyui.

Almost finished the wonderful Barracuda prop. Salt chipping the blades wasnt a success, so I removed all the paint and started from scratch again.

I'll now use pencils for the chipping and scratches. I used some salt on the hub...turned out nice I think. Added some extra scratches by carefully scraping off paint.

An aluminium basecoat is handy I think :)

bf109%20G-6%20white%2017-16_zpsupmtmzlp.

Also ripped off the temporary masking canopy and finished the pit.

I couldn't use the North Star Revi 16...the G-6 had a Revi 12. the kit part is okey, so no pain there.

This is bogging me down a bit now...

bf109%20G-6%20white%2017-18_zpsuio8pjxi.

Masking the canopy parts  :(

For future 109 builds I'll get myself aftermarket masks. I'm just not good with this. Much cursing involved.

More soon!

Yeah, I know, but it's okey. It just took some time to do all the loose ends.

All done and ready for the airbrush now.

Made 2 pitot tubes (1 already for a future 109) from sliding brass tube, dented the drop tank here and there, landing gear together and all other little thingies cleaned up and basecoated. Made plans for the WGr.21 launchers, but I'll start working on them when the rest of the plane is more or less ready.

Day off tomorrow and I plan to make it a produtive day!  :) (but I won't rush it...I have no deadline)

 More tomorrow!

Rob  :piliot:

Edit:

More tomorrow!

I did what I planned to do, but showing some painted small bits isn't worth a new reply

 More tomorrow!

Sunday we go to Venice for a few days, so I'll show where I am...and leave you guys alone until end of next week.

Bits and bobs, loose ends and decals.

bf109%20G-6%20white%2017-19_zpsymwfpsea.

The pitot tube and a spare one.

It's worth to make your own. The kit part isn't that fantastic.

The drop tank. I did this as a seperate project. It won't go on before the plane is ready for weathering. After the decals and varnish.

bf109%20G-6%20white%2017-20_zpsrt1qbfmp.

The aluminium basecoat.

bf109%20G-6%20white%2017-23_zps0dghgwnp.

Seasoning. Mediterarranean sea salt.

bf109%20G-6%20white%2017-22_zpsltzqzbto.

RLM 76. I read somewhere it's great to use an electric toothbrush to remove the salt again. And indeed...it works great!

bf109%20G-6%20white%2017-21_zpsgwfhlvjf.

Finished! Decals on (scraped off where the paint is damaged) and varnished. I'll do the weathering and fuel streaks together with the plane.

Where I am with the plane...

bf109%20G-6%20white%2017-24_zps5319jlsn.

Doing the decals now. The canopy and loop antenna are not fixed yet. They have to wait until I varnished the plane.

The canopy fits like a glove and it's amazing how good it is. Very thin and very clear. The Erla canopy is okey, but the early canopy is just superb.

Can see much of the interior (Good! not a lot of work for nothing!)

Note the beefed up loop antenna base. I put a lot of effort in this little thing, because it's such an eye catcher.

Hoped to finish this build before Venice, but it's okey. I need another week with some spare time to finish the plane and probably another week to scratch the WGr.21s.

Kinda amazing how time flies while glueing and painting plastic bits. Been working on this for a month now...and prolly 2 more weeks (not counting city trip time) needed.

My deepest respect for those who build really complicated...and sometimes huge planes. Not sure I can cope with such builds

More in a week or so!
