  1. So here’s the fuel tank. It was printed in two halves just to make it easier to print. Mike put a flat plate on one side to aid mounting. I’ll make some steel straps, a sump with pickup and a fuel line, and presto, I stand Maritime Patrol long range Lanc. In the rearof the bay, maybe some life rafts, depth charges, or 500lb general purpose bombs. We’ll see.
  2. Received my 3D printed parts from Mike. 1. Bomb Bay fuel tank. 2. Rear observation windows 3. Late open style wide mouth postwar exhausts. Now we’re running.... polishing and fitting the windows tonight. My fingers smell like Crest toothpaste. Shimmed them to perfectly fit the openings. 3D printing these windows probably was not the best way to represent these, but Mike and I are experimenting and I’m going to showcase everything that he creates. The fuel tank and exhausts are little works of art. And actually, the bit of pattern the printer leaves on the parts looks right at home on the fuel tank. A skim of sanding to take the edges off and it looks like rolled and pressed sheet metal.
  3. Congrats, buddy! Have fun. Never been there, never will, either
  4. This is a REALLY nice kit when done. Not as easy as a Fisher kit, but it really looks the part when done.
  5. Stunning work, Mr. Castle, as usual. Funny factoid here, Peter; I’m actually using your build as reference for my still ongoing Rutman P-51B build. Your cockpit detail is phenomenal. I hope to learn enough from your tutorials to give me a fighting chance of a partial NMF finish with my B-36 a real possibility when it comes about.
  6. Mike, THAT is a great idea. A D-Day theme is an idea that might just even bring in folks from other sites to participate. I really like the idea of prizes as well. I’d have it open to everything Overlord related, not just aircraft. There’s more than a few AFV guys around here, and even some aircraft guys that cross over at times. I think it’s be a hit!
  7. Time to resurrect this one
  8. Put it in the Wurger build as well! I’ll get on with my started PCM A-3 when my Lanc is done in a month or so.
  9. Heck man, around here, anything goes!
  10. We have an Fw-190 thing going on now. Informal, but it could be formalized. I’d do it, after the Lanc’s done. Wurger Party
  11. Pulling up a chair for this one, Rich. Like you, I have two of three in the stash, and they keep talking to me. I think these are still being produced, so you may be able to contact MDC for a replacement wing... FYI.
  12. 6 miles from the runway, they’ll disassemble it and put it on sleds to the runway. It’ll be rebuilt and put back in service. You can’t kill the old three
  13. Well, here’s the money pic. Thanks, buddy!
  14. I had talked to him a couple years back, and he was sick then. I’m just glad he’s still with us.
  15. Ok, that’s what I need. Two pieces total. One for each side, which is what I thought at first. I was worried that is was one big wrap around over the top piece.
  16. I can't tell if that double wraps around to the other side or is a gusset below the turret, Jeff. I think I almost see an upper edge, but then on the far side of the turret, there's a definite double skin there. FYI, Mike Swinburne 3D printed me that scoop, and it's way, WAY better than the kit part. The kit part almost seems too flat and featureless. Mike's part has much more bulk to it and certainly is a much better representation of the real thing.
  17. Can anyone familiar with the Mk.X tell me if the reinforcement doubler plates on the fuselage top by the Martin Turret is a single piece, or two pieces, one on each side?
  18. So, really in NATO only Canada and the USA are flying F-18s? Or is Spain still? I still feel Canada needs a twin jet for Canadian interceptor ops. One engine doesn’t cut it 1800miles out over the empty arctic. That’s my one beef against the 16, Gripen, and 35.
