  1. Were the wing landing lights plated over on any of the night fighter Hurries? I’ve seen pictures of the anti glare shields to keep exhaust glow out of the pilot’s eyes. Anything else? I’ve heard stories both ways on this…
  2. Ain’t this FUN? So far, I’m quite happy with the performance of this kit. It’s turning out to be a nice, fairly relaxing build. The center section turned into a non event, although the wing to fuselage join could have been a bit better. I’m diggin’ it.
  3. That huge, thick Hawker wing slowed the Hurricane by a few MPH’s, but that wing also gave the Hurricane the ability to put turn most any monoplane short of the P.11c. The Hurricane could easily out turn a 109 or 190, and even turn inside the vaunted Spitfire.
  4. With all its bumps and protrusions, the Hurricane looks like it has an immune system imbalance, but she was tough and war ready
  5. After all, it’s only putty, right? 😗
  6. Only one small seam like on the upper fuselage to fill. Operator created? Maybe, who knows, but with the seamless mess of the rest of it, it seems I was asleep at the wheel. Hello mr Tamiya extra fine.
  7. 12 guns on this Hurricane. Even though they were .303 rifle rounds, if a Nazi aircraft got caught in the cone where they all come together, the result was absolutely devastating, and just a short burst would literally tear the target aircraft to pieces. The firepower is mind numbing for the period. The gun nosed B-25s and A-20s were still a few months away.
  8. I absolutely marvel at the stunning surface detail of this kit. Truly gorgeous. Revell has captured the unique anachronistic construction of the Hurricane perfectly. This tube and fabric construction is one of the main reasons the Hurricane could absorb ungodly amounts of airframe damage with little to no obvious penalty to rigidity. A truly amazing aircraft design that Britain literally owes its very existence to.
  9. Y’all were asking about leading edge inserts. One side was perfect, the other side, well, not quite fubar. Fixable, but this MAY be operator error.
  10. I masked off the wing roots and stabilizer join marks and hit them with Tamiya extra fine. Maybe a bit of overkill, but it’ll do the job. The area is only about 1/32”, but the Tamiya tape makes it look huge.
  11. Some thin Evergreen was needed in a couple small areas to close up some gaps. Nothing serious, just easier to melt it in place and sand it smooth when dry.
  12. Some interesting things I see, and not being an expert on this type, I’ll need to either rely on y’all or do some looking myself. With the carburetor air intake, there is a definite gap around both sides of the scoop. Is this normal? Do the skin panels not fit hard against the scoop? The gap is similar on both sides.
  13. I agree. There’s a couple spots standing proud, but the detail intense areas are decent and clean.
  14. This is turning out interesting. Certainly I have some clean up, in a couple spots, a lot of it, but all in all? Not bad. FullSizeRender.MOV
  15. There’s a lot of right angles and lap joints going on here. There will certainly be sanding and filling involved, but unlike short run kits, the more I look at it, the less inclined I am to believe that this can be built by attaching the upper wing surfaces first to minimize any gap. I think it’s simply build it up, them fill as necessary.
  16. You can absolutely count on certain people complaining for no other reason than because the can. Like me, I’m sure you simply accept it. It’s life. They complained about Revell’s Hurricane, Kotare’s Spitfire la, Infinity’s Helldiver and Vampire, and yes, even Tamiya’s Corsair. If they didn’t complain, you’d ask yourself if they’d been struck dumb by lightning This kit, to me, is an absolute Must Do. HPH/Infinity is choosing its subjects carefully, and, as Hubert said, sales won’t be huge, so the price will be slightly higher. Some won’t want it do to price, others due to subject, and many more simply because they lack the skill necessary to build the thing. (Yes, those folks exist) Instead, they sit at home and complain. Thankfully, those aren’t the types we attract here. This will be a bench clearing event when it arrives.
  17. I’d think steam capstans? When they needed to deploy, they needed to deploy fairly quickly without alot of piping to quarters for rigging the nets. The Kaiser’s High Seas Fleet were all uncommonly attractive. Great subject. 1/350 is just too small for me. 1/200 at a minimum for me with the big ships of the line.
  18. That will be a clear the bench event for me. I’m hoping I have my biplane done before this lands.
  19. Funny thing. So farm this year I’ve built more models than in the previous 3 years combined.
  20. Sorta like me. About the size of Rog … just a bit chunkier.
  21. I have the 2 seater A-10. I really want to build it in Border Patrol colors. 😝🤪😇
  22. Absolutely. The kit instrument decals are an unmitigated disaster, and, as is normal with Revell, there are no belts present. But the plastic is decent enough, although some pebbly areas are present. I expect a thin coat of paint will make this look phenomenal.
  23. It should be here any moment now, although you can simply order from Hannants. They seem to always get stock before SB does.
  24. The wing to fuselage join area is,… interesting. One MAY be able to build it using the short run technique of attaching the upper wing halves first, but the jigsaw assembly of the wing may make that impossible. As of right now, we have a decent, but not perfect fit of the wing to the fuselage. Just like the PCM kit, extreme care will need to be taken to avoid damaging the gorgeous raised details. There’s a lot going on here, and a lot of individual parts. However, I’m not sure it could really be simplified without sacrificing accuracy The fit is similar to the Revell P-51. Complex, but useable. I have yet to try the leading edge inserts.
  25. So far, the design of this kit has been amazingly brilliant. BUT, and this is extremely important: it is a Revell kit, run off by the hundreds of thousands, so there is flash and mold lines much as with Airfix. As of yet, I haven’t seen any mold mismatch, but the join lines are definitely there. On the center section and three piece wing bottom, be aware that these must be absolutely clean, because even 1/64” of flash or sprue hate residue somewhere will cause them not to fit together. If they’re clean, they literally snap fit positively and perfectly. ale sure the edges are PERFECT.
