  1. In 1/32 I have the Dragon P51K (yuk) and Revells Spit mk2. In 1/48, Hasegawas typhoon, which is at the paint stage but keeps getting relegated due to other commitments. I have spent a bit of time opening the gun bays and installing the Aries set, so must get to this soon. Doing the Sharkmouth.
  2. An hour from London that is. Slightly more from Leeds.
  3. Duxford is about an hours drive away, if you have wheels, and is really worth trying to get to. Having lived in Canada the last 5 years, I really miss that place.
  4. At least they're not orange, like Dragons' P 51 tyres. Seriously!!
  5. That looks pretty awesome. In the picture of the props though, one of the blades looks warped, or is that just the angle of the photograph?
  6. This time of year is notoriously slow, modelling wise, for me. Kids are off school and demanding my time, but finally managed to get some primer on the Mustang. I used Alclad grey primer, which was for the most part sucessful but went on a bit thick and pebbly in other areas, notably, the wing root. Also need to address a couple of flaws before proceeding with the NMF. More sanding and polishing ahead, woohoo! So glad to finally lose the clear cowling though. Been off all week on vacation and have been eating and drinking exactly what I please. So hoping to make some significant progress on this and my Revell Spitfire this week, to take my mind off.... erm..... eating and drinking! Regards, Mike.
  7. Hi Danny, I built this oob a while back. It has its vices but builds into a nice model. My effort is documented here. http://aeroscale.kitmaker.net/modules.php?op=modload&name=features&file=view&artid=6314 All the best, Mike
  8. Very cool. Just goes to show what a great site this is!
  9. The fuselage went together fairly straight forwardly. The fit of the wings was another story. Lots of cutting and sanding required to get the wings together. The area around the gun ports looked really messy so I carefully cut off the kit parts and replaced them with rings, punched from card. The canopy windscreen appears to be designed for another kit alltogether and much trimming had to be carried out in order to get it to sit right. This resulted in a large gap which needed to be filled, sanded and will require polishing of the clear parts. All favourite tasks of mine! Oh joy ! First attempt at sanding revealed some areas where the filler didn't quite take so these were addressed with some thick Mr Surfacer from the bottom of the bottle.
  10. Here are a few pictures of my Dragon P51K, which I'm building over on Aeroscale for my sins. It really isn't a pleasant build with lots of fit issues carried over from the D boxing (why Dragon. Why??). I used barracudas cockpit stencils, designed for the Tamiya kit and McGyvered them to fit. Lots of trimming and dissecting, but I think they really liven this area up. I also used some 1/48 scale dials and stencils from Airscale. The etched belts fell to bits when I was bending them into shape so I trimmed off the hardware and made my own from tape. I also replaced the seat back from card. The whole sorry tale so far can be found here http://www.aeroscale.co.uk/modules.php?op=modload&name=SquawkBox&file=index&req=viewtopic&topic_id=230350#1940355
  11. It looks like I will be binning it and getting some more. Thanks to all for the advice.
  12. Is it possible to soften miliput that has, over the years, become a bit stiff. I know it can be smoothed with water, but will water soften it sufficiently to be able to mix it. I'm talking about un-mixed milliput here, in case people thought I'd gone a bit daft.
  13. There are no colour call-outs in the Aeries set and I don't have the Airfix Tiffie, so any help with this area would be appreciated. Cheers, Mike.
  14. Very, very nice model and presentation. This may be a dumb question, but I'm wondering what material the inside of the gun bay panels was made from on the original aircraft? It looks like un-painted photo etch! (obviously not). I am half way through building the Hasegawa 1/48 kit with the gun bays opened up, so would appreciate any insight into what colour to paint this area. Cheers, Mike
  15. Any chance of a photo of the schemes available Jim? Scale Warship do a rotor fold set. http://www.scalewarship.com/store/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=263
  16. I built the WNW Bristol Fighter as my first large scale WW1 kit. It has a complex rigging and strut arrangement which looks scary and is deemed to be one of their more challengeing kits, but with care and patience, I managed to achieve an outstanding result. My point is, whichever WNW kit you choose, they are engineered so well and the instructions, painting guide, rigging diagrams and general reference included make for a very rewarding modeling experience. The Roland C.2 is a good choice also, as the rigging is relatively simple for a bi-plane. I was able to complete the Brisfit using my general modeling toolkit without recourse to any specialist tools. I used EZ line for the rigging. I wrote up my build for Scale Plastic and Rail. You can find the link below. http://www.scaleplasticandrail.com/kaboom/index.php/component/content/article/92-our-projects/completed-projects/2177-confessions-of-a-wingnut-wings-virgin
  17. I love the attention to detail and the 'can do' attitude. Your build(s) have even inspired me to try some rudimentary scratch building of my own, albeit on a much smaller scale. Thanks, and keep up the great work. Cheers, Mike.
  18. Cool! I fancy doing one of these as a 'beat up' Greek ship.
  19. Here is my recently completed Starfighter. The build was done for Aeroscale but I thought I would share here. It was built mainly OOB but I added some foil straps to the ejector seat and some hydraulic lines to the main gear. A build article can be found here http://www.aeroscale.co.uk/modules.php?op=modload&name=features&file=view&artid=6314
  20. Wow! What a great looking kit of a fascinating subject. Top review too. I'm surprised that there are no examples of the type still in existence. Never done a resin kit, but looking at this tells me that I might have to give one a go. Soon.
  21. What a splendid model. It's the first time I've seen the interior of the sharkmouth done in blue as it's usually depicted in red or camo. Do you have a reference for that, or is it artistic licence. I am halfway through building the same aircraft in 1/48, so any thoughts would be useful.
