  1. John So glad you tamed the beast - a masterful build of a kit that most like has been binned and or a permanent resident for a very large number of modelers - I belong to that club for sure. Agreed about the blue but it's a tiny and small detail not very important. πŸ†
  2. Rob WOW, absolutely looks like the real deal. Wiring looks perfect and the fanbelt - yup, Tamiya needs to take a lesson on how it should be done.
  3. Hi Ernie Quite an ordeal and glad you're OK and can spend some time on the forum with the guys.
  4. Rob Agreed, sounds as if it will solve all my issues. Is there a special type of transfer tape I need to buy as a quick look at Michael's Craft Store online (I have a real Michael's a few miles from the house) and there seems to be a boatload of types.
  5. Thanks Dennis for the recommendation and going to order the masks today on ebay.
  6. I started to decal my Tamiya Spitfire today and the kit decals were old and cracked as soon as I started to apply them. To make matters worse, the EagleCal decals I bought were no better and proved to be unusable, as neither of the decals would conform and settle down over the underwing blisters. This a new ground for me and the only way out is to use paint masks, as there always is a first time. Located two sets of mask set on ebay, I Man Army DET 041. DN masks 2013 Either one should work. Will be ordering one of the sets by Monday. Just seems there is always something.
  7. Dennis, thank you .. Very much appreciated
  8. John Looking good on my end as well. Thanks for the tip on the spinner spirals - will come in handy down the road.
  9. Thanks Dennis, so very much appreciated. That sems to clear it up. Just wonder why Tamiya, EagleCal got it wrong and even Wolf Buddee on his incredible Spitfire build then has it incorrect. I'm going to follow Edgar's research. Truth be said, I'm having enough issues with applying the roundels over all the wing lumps and bumps.
  10. Thanks Chris, just watch the video but I'm just not convinced. It could be fighters leaving the factory were painted one way and re-painting the field, it went the other way. The video and the photo are very early Spitfires and even the wing roundels are different. The Spitfire I'm working on, cammo was field applied and in the photographs I've seen (just two) one has the walk lines over the roundel and the other under it. I also checked a lot of builds and it's all over the place. I'm pretty sure I'm going to put the roundels on top and call it a day.
  11. Kev Just seems there is a photograph documenting each way. To make matters worse, both Tamiya and EagleCal show the wing walk lines on top of the roundels.
  12. Both the Tamiya instructions and the EagleCal Instructions, show the black wing walk lines going over the roundels. I've looked at dozens of build photos and actual aircraft photos and just can't tell which way is correct; wing walk line under or over the roundel. The inflight images I have show the Walk Lines over the roundels. .
  13. John Amazing .. Knowing me, I would have at least half the parts from one kit on the other kit and then wondered why nothing fit right?
  14. John You're in overdrive gear this past week and your progress on the SOD kits has been prenominal. Awesome progress on your latest 109 - front office and the prop spinner spiral are spot on - looking mighty good.
  15. John Decals are looking mighty good. Nice idea to let what you have done dry overnight to just be on the safe side.πŸ‘
  16. Chris, very much appreciated. It's been a while and it's actually pretty relaxing. For me, it's always been my preferred way of doing cammo.
  17. Thanks John, much appreciated, Making progress and hopefully decaling this weekend.
  18. John terrific build, your 190 looks awesome for sure.
  19. John Just catching up and so glad you went back to work on the Revell 190. Meticulous work and as always, a perfect finish. So very well done. πŸ†
  20. IT’S CAMMO TIME Priming with MRP Gray Primer was uneventful and I decided the RAF North African cammo scheme would look best done free hand. First up was the MRP Middlestone, applied with a H&S Infinity CR Plus .4 tip. After letting the MRP dry for a full 24 hrs, it was time for the Dessert Dark Brown which was mixed and matched as best I could AK Real Colors to the Tamiya XF 54 Flat Earth, as I wanted to use mostly lacquer based paints on the Spitfire and was close enough with the color. For the free hand cammo, I switch air brushes to an H&S Infinity CR Plus with a .2 tip. After letting the AK Real Color paint dry for 24 hours, the upper surface cammo was masked off and AK Real Colors Azur Blue was air brushed on using the H&S with the .4 tip again. Happy to report, zero issues and next up will be either Tamiya X22 Clear Gloss or Tamiya LP-9 Clear Gloss and then it’s decal time. One thing that has always bothered me are painting/decal placement drawings, are those that only show one side view of the fuselage and not the other – never understood why. This was the case with the EagleCal Decal instructions and luckily, the Tamiya instructions included a well detailed four view set of drawings for the cammo scheme I am doing.
