  1. Trying different methods for the red locking mechanism on the outside of the canopy. The smallest rod I had was way to big so I tried stretched sprue and I think it’s a good diameter. Now I just need to clean up the painting and the canopy
  2. Well I’m going to remove the decals and paint the markings. Just don’t like the look of the different finishes between the paint and decals. I’ve always used decals on almost all of my other 1/24 builds but I’ve got the 1 man army stencils so this will be hood practice for the typhoon. The hellcat was my first model that I painted all the markings on and I’m happy with that one. The main problem is finding the correct color for the reddish roundel, I tried RAF hill red and it was not even close. I use water based paints to spray, mainly Vallejo
  3. Wow!! Great looking aircraft! I think seeing how great your ww1 aircraft look makes me want to try to do some too!!
  4. Installed the top decals to see if I like them or I’m going to spray all the markings on. Not sure yet…made a canopy lock mechanism for the top of the sliding glass
  5. Top colors sprayed on today. Hit the bottom color tomorrow. Not sure if I’ll paint the markings or use the decals on this one….
  6. Starting to paint. Trying different ways to get a soft edge. Trying the putty method after I paint the dark green. On my airfix 1/24 fe-190 I used paper cut to the cami shape then roll taped it so it was lifted off the surface, then held the airbrush at 90 degrees to the surface, like it should be with the putty. I also started to detail the engine with hoses and cables
  7. Is it ever done? Added a few more details I thought of while I was working on the spitfire
  8. Museum level detail!!! Unbelievable work being done here. Simply no words
  9. Well I was happy to replace the very little detailed spinner with one I have from model monkey but…. It’s a three prop spinner🥲. got the props sanded down and ready for paint and got the exhaust pipes finished and installed , I was hard to keep the weld lines on the exhaust stacks without sanding them off but I think enough is still there.
  10. It’s been the best fitting airfix kit I’ve built yet. Including the P-51,FW-190,BF-109,Mosquito,Hurricane,Ju-87, Hellcat.. it kinda seems simple in a detailed way. I really like this build, can’t wait to paint it. Next up is the 1/24 Typhoon!!
  11. Just trying to get the gun tape(dope rolls) figured out before I start painting. This is tamyia yellow tape with red sharpie. I think it will work after painting and smoothed out. The color is spot on.
  12. Starting to detail the engine and repainting some engine parts, added wiring to come, hit the exhaust all filled and painted. Now to weather and wear the exhaust
  13. Well, I should have done this on the sprue but better late than never! Drilling out the lock screw fasteners
  14. More progress this week, it’s tough because of my blurry vision but it’s been getting a little better so build while I can! Got the engin done and installed. I’ll start detailing the engine and engine bay. Need to figure out a good way to get the Rolls Royce plates on the valve covers done. Ideas? Built a scratch door floor and hinges for the coolers( thanks Craigboy!!) it’s really surprising to see the size difference between the spitfire and the hellcat and thunderbolt, no wonder the big American fighters could take so much damage. I can’t wait to get painting and trying my hand with the one man army stencils
  15. And yes, I now know the seat it plastic! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction guys! Great amount of knowledge here and the help everyone gives it what makes this forum such fun to be apart of!
  16. Moving on a little, I think the seat turned out like Bakelite! started on the gun bays. Using mastermodel brass gun kit. Just got a couple of Sven’s 1/24 scale stencils from one man army, they are awesome! I got a kit for my typhoon as well. It’s kinda hard with such blurry eyes but I’ll keep going!
  17. I think I can still reach in and paint the green edges on my “ Bakelite seat “ to match the one photo, although that’s the only one I’ve seen with the green edging. Thanks all for bringing that to my attention!!! Good thing my try at wood simulation just looked like brown plastic!!!
  18. Here it is before I pose the seat belts
  19. Well that sure makes more sense!!! I don’t know where I got it.. I had already painted it and then repainted it to match!! I know they made a lot of stuff from wood so I just rolled with it.. I guess it still looks like the brown plastic
