  1. Done. Bought a 5cm diameter lense to fit snuggly in the gunsight. Ready for the cabinet.
  2. This is how i’ll design in 3D the wing inserts. I’ll use as much reference data as i can find.
  3. Installed the hatches on the gun camera and the flap tabs. Also doing some more wear and tear to the underside.
  4. Hi all, This is the review sample provided by Das Werk that I will be building as the 80% complete mockup at the Messerschmitt factory at Oberammergau. In my review I will elaborate thoroughly on the subject. In this build I will try to replicate the mockup as close as possible. I will be using the FPW 3D printed HeS 011 engine and the 1Manarmy mask set that was developed for this kit. First order of business: The wings. As you may know, the wings on the mockup were taken from a Me262, that was also built at Oberammergau. These wings were altered at the wingtips, shortened and the slats were altered. On the mockup that was found, there were three underwing panels missing on each wing. These areas are closed on the Das Werk kit, but nonetheless visible, since they show them in bare duralumin and provide factory stamps for them. A nice touch. I will however open up the panels and 3D print the internal details. There's no way back now! There are several pics that show some internal detail. Here's one while under restoration in the US.
  5. Aaaaaaaalmost. Just beed to add antenna wires, flap weights, ladder and some other small details. The vac form canopy fits nicely.
  6. The Nortons are almost finished. Added fuel gauges. Someone asked what the deal was with two bikes alongside the Whirlwind. My initial idea was only to write on the base: It wasn’t the engines. Referring to the mistake people make when they say the problem with the Whirlwind were the Peregrine engines. Seemed funny to place two engines/motors under it’s wings. These Nortons were used by the RAF to get around, so seems appropriate.
  7. Drilled holes for sunken screws. Bit nerve wrecking since i was afraid the acrylic would crack. Started with a 1mm drill and went from there.
  8. Lined out the radio hatch. Racing towards the finish line.
  9. Not much longer now. Wheelbay doors are on. Some more weathering to do and bits to add.
  10. I can’t wait to put this thing in the cabinet! So much more to do though…
  11. More weathering and chipping and scratching.
  12. Up on her legs. Also made a new acrylic base with the Matlask base name changed to the properly spelled ‘Matlaske’. It still has it’s blue protective film in this pic.
  13. With so many projects on the go and the P1101 begging to get started it’s time to finish the Whirlwind. Assembled the Nortons and adding their rear wheel stand. More weathering to be done on them and to find some spare dials for fuel gauges. Also started to build the Whirlwind’s landing gear. It’s difficult to explain but the struts are connected to the extended flap, needing me to alter some parts.
  14. Measuring the HK Models pilot seat and adjusting the pilot to the correct dimensions and posture. Next up is the nose gunner.
  15. I have an unstarted HK lanc cockpit kit and one that has been built for a telford show some years ago. The latter is perfect for taking measurements for the pilots, and composition tests.
  16. Printed the final details. Instrument panel to which i drew the Revi gunsight attached. Canopy framing. Very delicate! Cockpit detail. Exhaust Rockets
  17. Having some issues with the printer, but managed to squeeze out a few more parts including the onion for the engine intake.
  18. Figured life is too short for polishing and had the clear glass lasered from acrylic transparent plastic. Only need to sand the edge in an angle.
  19. Assembling and sanding the box. Made a hinge from copper rod.
