Tamiya 1/48 Mosquito Night Fighter

Beautiful cammo work and nothing like shooting with enamels - sure wish they would make a comeback here in the states.

Tamiya's fit: amazing. Fingers crossed the Aires bomb bay set arrives today.

Thanks Peter. My fingers are crossed also. Tracking shows it is supposed to deliver today.

Nice and ultra clean work John.  :notworthy:

Thank you Martin. That Xtracolor paint is a excellent paint. I've always had great results with it. :)

Finished painting the undersides Testor's Flat Black. After a little touchup it'll be ready for decals (after I get the bomb bay installed, etc). :)

Did the bomb bay show up, John?

Sure did Jeff. Late yesterday evening. I'll get started on it this morning. Looks like it will do fine. :)

Now that's what I call service ! I will be looking for your next update, John, and yes I agree the paint turned out beautifully, although I am still not a fan fo that bulbous nose... I wish they had come up with a better idea...

Great progress John. I wonder how you gonna tackle the bay insertion, is it like a drop-in scenario?

cheers

M.

Check the next post Martin. I think it will work fine.:)

My fingers are crossed all will go well. At this point I don't see any big problems. I agree, that nose doesn't add any good looks to the a/c.

Got this forward bulkhead cut out and fitted on the model. Fits okay so I think I can glue it in place and proceed with the rest of the bay "stuff".

Awesome , John, that bomb bay kit really sets it off ! Looking great !

Thanks Jeff. The best approach I think, would have been to do the bomb/gun bay stuff before assembling the fuselage. But I wasn't planning to get that Aires set and went on and assembled the fuselage, etc. I changed my mind after the fact and decided to go on and get the set and see if I could at least use SOME of it. Luckily that seems to be the case so it looks like a workable plan after all. I'm working on the gun mounts and guns and expect to have them installed later today (fingers crossed). :)

All was going fairly well until I noticed.......things were installed backwards! Had to "undo" very carefully the two guns I had in place and start over. Cuss factors and frustration are kicking in! That's why I'm taking a short break to post this. I hate it when that happens!!!! 🤪 I WILL say the instructions leave much to be desired.

Guns and gun mounts done  (and facing the right direction!). The end of the barrels will be shortened some and then stuck through the holes on the forward bulkhead so their being a bit "wonky" right now shouldn't be a problem after install. :)

What can I say ... there are just those days. Some mighty nice engineering getting the Aires bomb bay to fit after the fuselage was glued up.  I can just imagine how you felt and the cuss factor running in high gear when you found that the guns were backwards. Glad you took a break, relaxed, worked out a POA and is A-OK. The MG do look might good. :construction:

Yep, just one of those senior moments I guess.

Guns and mounts installed okay. I've decided to use the Aires bomb bay/gun bay doors instead of the kit items. I'll get that done tomorrow along with some other stuff.

Thanks Jeff. I just finished decaling so I'll have to set it aside for a bit to allow the decals to settle in. Then I'll over spray with some clear flat and start attaching the wings, bomb bay doors, etc. I figure to be done with it before the end of the week barring unforseen problems. :)
