Re the static grass , best bit of advice I read was not to create "lawns " , as they rarely look good.

After that I went for spotting the glue on the base (I use mod-podge as it dries matt) , and static grassing over the top so it looks worn out etc . Bit like weathering start with less and keep adding till your happy. Never made a lawn since !
