the Dodge Viper looks like yesterdays newspaper

To be fair, he was working from the original Viper, which only ever looked good in black because you couldn't see all the horrible gaps in the panel fit and the awful intakes and vents. So we should cut him some slack.

It's no where near as nice as the real thing. And only Elan Musk can afford one of those now. So it's the next best thing.

What car would that be?

I don't know. I have many, as I am sure we all do. I just watched an interview with Bernie Eccelstone on youtube showing off his collection of historic Brabhams. So maybe the Tamiya BT44B? I have a 1/20 Jordan 191 I started years ago that I play with once in a while. The two Porsche's I was showing off after market parts for. A box full of 1/43 kits. Too many choices.

Likely I won't be able to seriously work on a car till some of the other stuff sitting around half built gets finished.

I´ve seen that video too, very interesting. The BT44B is on my immediate building list as well, possibly my next project. I love the aggressive looks of the BT44. Like you, I have so many choices in 1/20 or 1/24, but will end up with 1/12 more likely. There is the MFH Lotus 77 or the MFH Brabham BT52B or even the MFH Williams FW16. The Jordan 191 is also a very sleek car, but I don´t have one in my stash.

I just found this on spot model. Ack!

Not my cup of tea. Some days ago, MFH showed a French flag on their site for the April release and I had high hopes for a Citroen DS, maybe in rally outfit or even an Alpine A110, but I was expecting something like the MS670, because they already have the engine ready, as it is more or less the same like in the Matra MS11 F1 car. If I really can convince myself about the toyish Matra blue, it would be the MS11 for me with the visible 12 cylinder engine beauty.

Lotus 77

I never liked that car. I should, but I just don't. I'm going to stick With Tamiya and now NuNu/Beemax for my 1/12 kits. I was looking for an early Lotus at the last kit collector show. I should have bought the Jackie Stewart Tyrell that was there, but it likely will be there next time.

MS670

I won't be buying it either. Those "flounder" style open cars from the 70's are a favorite of mine. So they are always tempting.

I have two MFH kits and both have left me somewhat disappointed. I have not built either, and I may get round to the 1/20 Force India F1 car someday. The other is 1/43 and I don't think they designed it to be assembled. But it looks pretty in the box.

Matra blue

Haha, That blue is a selling point for me. Funny how peoples tastes vary so much. I think that's the last dying vestige of the old country based racing colors used in F1. Other than, of course, Ferrari. I wonder if they would have dropped their national color if it wasn't so flashy.

That really does look stunning under the natural light Rob. I know it maybe didn't go quite how you'd hoped but I'd still be extremely proud of how it finished up.

Thank you Gus, I´m happy, that the Cobra Coupe is done. I learned a lot through the build and it was mostly fun. The hanging doors are witness of my failures. They look worse in the pics than they are, but I may try to fix them. Yesterday, I opened the hood to add a missing piece, by removing my tiny bolts, which held the bonnet in place and it didn´t felt as bad as seeing the doors gaps.
Anyway, I´m up for the next challenging build, but it will be one with less doors and hatches :D.

Cheers Rob

Rob, Sorry, been off for a bit but catching up quickly.  LOVELY!!  The culmination of your efforts are striking.  You've often referenced where you know things are off a bit, but what I see is a fantastic build that could easily be mistaken for a photo of the actual car.  I see wear marks that would appear on the actual car but that body work you did is amazing.  I'm not as worried about the gaps - the car looks right.  I remain in awe at your skills.

Thank you Kevin and Chris. I noticed, there is still no RFI-section for cars or bikes, only armor and planes, not really fitting ;)
The doors were besides the bonnet, the most problematic areas of the build. I spent many hours to get it right, even added magnets to help. There are so many parts involved, which had to fit perfectly, it was a nightmare. I may be able to better the situation a bit, but the hinges are not in reach anymore. It looks worse on the pictures than on the model. Due to my handling the doors might have opened a little and I haven´t seen it.
For some reason, the body color is very vulnerable, despite cleaning the resin body with alcohol, proper priming and airbrushing. The adhesion is sub-optimal and it is very easy to have paint lifts. For my next MFH build, I will slightly sand the body parts.
But hey, it´s done and this is what counts, besides the lots of fun, I had during the build. It was challenging, but only some of the last parts of the build were frustrating. I should have chosen a bit simpler kit, but when I look at the Cobra Coupe, sitting on the shelf, I´m a little bit proud as well.

Looking very good, Rob 👍 !

It looks like you should go with automotive self-etching primer next time. And probably cheaper than modelling primer. Maybe you can get some from a local body-repair shop on your island ?

Thank you Hubert. My wife smuggled two jars of etch primer to my place recently, which I want to try out soon. With the final assembly of the Cobra, the problems were more connected to bad adhesion of the body color on resin, despite cleaning the resin and priming properly.

It etch's to metal, so it won't be any use on resin. It's much more toxic than modeling stuff, so take precautions.

What I think you were trying to suggest is a two part epoxy primer which is agin no simple task as far as clean up and waste disposal but certainly better than an etch primer.

Based on your comments it sounds like you didn't sand the resin, which is likely where the problem started.
