CP1 Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 Starting a new diorama. It will be a 1/35 German rail yard. It will have three rail lines, a switch tower, a loading dock, two steam engines, several flat cars with military equipment and several freight cars. I am working on the switch tower now. 6
HubertB Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 Another one to follow … FYI, « Le Train » is the title of a French film telling the story of the mass arrest of Jews in the « Rafle du Vel D’Hiv » in France in 1942, and their subsequent deportation to Auschwitz / Birkenau … Your thread title just jumped at me for that reason … Hubert 2
CP1 Posted December 1, 2024 Author Posted December 1, 2024 It’s also the name of a Burt Lancaster film regarding the artwork stolen from France by the Nazis. 2
BlrwestSiR Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 The photos really highlight just how big these dioramas you have created are. 2
CP1 Posted December 1, 2024 Author Posted December 1, 2024 Waiting on more track. Will add crane near platform. 4
TJTX Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 Where did you get the foam insulation? I need a small piece for a tarmac to display my F-16. 1
CP1 Posted December 1, 2024 Author Posted December 1, 2024 At Lowe’s you can get a 4x8 sheet or 2x2 panels. Home Depot also sells the 2x2 panels. 3
CP1 Posted December 1, 2024 Author Posted December 1, 2024 I will add a pedestrian bridge from the second floor of the switch tower across all three tracks. There will also be a small maintenance shed. 3
belugawhaleman Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 This build is going to be great for sure! Will be watching! 2
Wouter Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 Should be a great diorama. Will surely follow. If I might make a suggestion; you might wan't to rotate the whole setup a few (10 / 15 degrees) in relation to the base. This way you get a much more interesting setup to look at. And maybe if you can get your hands on one, add a switch between the tracks. 2
CP1 Posted December 2, 2024 Author Posted December 2, 2024 Unfortunately I have a small area to work with. From my experience, angling multiple structures within a limited space gives the diorama a cramped feel which I don’t want. This would also shorten the length of the three track lines. Most rail yards are typically linear. If I was only going to display the tower or if I had a larger surface to work with I would be in agreement. As for the switch that would have to be scratch built. 2
CP1 Posted December 2, 2024 Author Posted December 2, 2024 Here are a few of the kits I will be using. Still waiting on a tanker and two gondolas. Might add two more box cars. Going to buy two more locomotives. 6
CP1 Posted December 5, 2024 Author Posted December 5, 2024 Waiting for more track and platform crane. Going to curve a portion of the track. Waiting for maintenance shed. There will be a stairwell connecting the walkway with the tower. Still need to finish the walkway railing. 4
