The Train

Recommended Posts

Starting a new diorama. It will be a 1/35 German rail yard. It will have three rail lines, a switch tower, a loading dock, two steam engines, several flat cars with military equipment and several freight cars. I am working on the switch tower now.

Another one to follow …

FYI, « Le Train » is the title of a French film telling the story of the mass arrest of Jews in the « Rafle du Vel D’Hiv » in France in 1942, and their subsequent deportation to Auschwitz / Birkenau … Your thread title just jumped at me for that reason …

Should be a great diorama. Will surely follow. If I might make a suggestion; you might wan't to rotate the whole setup a few (10 / 15 degrees) in relation to the base. This way you get a much more interesting setup to look at. And maybe if you can get your hands on one, add a switch between the tracks.

Unfortunately I have a small area to work with. From my experience, angling multiple structures within a limited space gives the diorama a cramped feel which I don’t want. This would also shorten the length of the three track lines. Most rail yards are typically linear. If I was only going to display the tower or if I had a larger surface to work with I would be in agreement. As for the switch that would have to be scratch built.
