Martinnfb Posted December 4 Posted December 4 I couldn't help myself and opened the box to see how badly are my wings warped. It wasn't that bad , it actually straightened itself upon assembly. 7 1
Martinnfb Posted December 4 Author Posted December 4 You might wanna see some of the parts. The detail is exquisite out of the box. The ejection port marks on the headrest are easy to be sanded off. 8
Martinnfb Posted December 4 Author Posted December 4 A quick comparison with the Trumpeter’s G6. You can see how the fuselage on TRP kit had distorted height in attempt to compensate for high power plant thrust line. this is hard to catch , but once you see it…. 6 1
BlrwestSiR Posted December 4 Posted December 4 Thanks for sharing. I know how much a 109 fan you are so it's great to hear the kit meets your expectations. Carl 3 1
belugawhaleman Posted December 4 Posted December 4 Looks like a great kit. One thing, however, it sounds like you were expecting the wings to be warped......is this a problem with these kits? 2
Martinnfb Posted December 4 Author Posted December 4 Yes, It seems to be a common issue. However once assembled, the wing is straight. So , not much of an issue. propeller blades need some putty which is ok. However the spinner lost some detail while being sanded smooth. 5 1
Martinnfb Posted December 4 Author Posted December 4 One wee detail that was omitted are tropical filter mounting holes. 4

PanzerWomble Posted December 4 Posted December 4 Arsefix???...oh dear oh dear.....you're worth better than that Martin ....purge it now before the so soft Indian 'plastic' contaminates your bench . 5
PanzerWomble Posted December 4 Posted December 4 Look , I'll send you this from my stash ....half the size, twice the part count , masks , PE , proper styrene , zero warpage...20x more fun . Just need ya ZIP code 😀 It's even got "those" tail markings on the decal sheet. 1 3
Martinnfb Posted December 4 Author Posted December 4 Thou shall see no squirrels! radiators are in, the flap actuators are not there yet simse I had to push the assemblies together quite a bit 5

I've not noticed that before on 109s but TBH it's not my area . Poor old Heinz, apparently he got bounced and shot down 18 days after that pic was taken by a mean ol' P47 . 2
Spitfire Posted December 5 Posted December 5 Those are great photos, a real part of history. Cheers Dennis 1
Martinnfb Posted December 6 Author Posted December 6 Airfix designed the power egg to be assembled in two ways, with open and closed cowling. Instead of downsizing the engine, they have you to sand it downs a bit in case you’re closing the cowling around it. The whole process is trouble free. I cracked the lower seam line as I was drilling the missing hole for the coolant reservoir drain/ purge valve. The intake received some basic details like attachments point for tropical filter and welding seams( to be tamed). Ventilation vents on the sides need some work or straight out aftermarket ones. 6
Martinnfb Posted December 6 Author Posted December 6 Trumpeter - Model Monkey - Airfix @Model Monkey is the best, however, being designed for TRP kit, the diamenter is 1mm too short. It doesn't take much to fit it in, I might take that route 8
PanzerWomble Posted December 6 Posted December 6 Its funny how all manufacturers struggle at time with nose cones, given its a simple shape . Good probe 😀 3
Martinnfb Posted December 6 Author Posted December 6 Yes, it is unfortunate, but not a deal breaker. To be honest, I haven't noticed it while looking at the promo pictures. There is more to mention, I just need take some measurement . 3

Martinnfb Posted December 7 Author Posted December 7 We will get to the canopy later, all I can say it’s clear, there’s no inner detail which would be something to address by aftermarket guys. The undercarriage is , well, something different. I was contemplating to insert a steel rods into the hollow legs, but the laziness took over and we won’t talk about it anymore. However!!, I did stuffed putty into the cavity to dampen the vibrations from the struts. Will it help? , only Will knows. damn , I’m getting all languagee this late at night. 3
Martinnfb Posted December 7 Author Posted December 7 @airscalePeter has been creating some goodies for the Trumpeter kit, so I used them. Had to butchered some fine detail, but it’s better than raw plastic. 7
