GusMac Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 Add another one following along! Lovely work on the wood interior and the cart. 1
krow113 Posted January 10, 2017 Author Posted January 10, 2017 Thanks Gus! Today a little brass for the switch set by Taurus Model|: 1
Michaelscarborough Posted January 10, 2017 Posted January 10, 2017 So...on the deck.....I assume that's wood grain decals but are you adding washes...like Sepia over the decal? It looks really good! Cheers from NYC, MIchael 1
krow113 Posted January 10, 2017 Author Posted January 10, 2017 Ya Uschi decals with pre-shading underneath, they are quite transparent , and some outlineing and dark shading in a red/brown/black wash.
crazypoet Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 The woodwork is a joy to see coming together. Any chance you could do a step-by-step photo set for one of the parts? I'd love to watch over your shoulder, if I may? 1
krow113 Posted January 11, 2017 Author Posted January 11, 2017 Sure its a bit better shown here: http://forum.ww1aircraftmodels.com/index.php?topic=7846.0 If thats not enough let me know - and thanks for your interest in my work and this forum as well ! Pilot console gets worked up: 1
crazypoet Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 That is beautifully done! I've been doing a ton of woodwork on the Picket Boat, and it's impossible for me to tell the difference in finish/appearance between the wood pieces I'm making and the wood finish you're applying here. It's utterly convincing. Thanks for sharing your approach and the work as it develops 1
krow113 Posted January 12, 2017 Author Posted January 12, 2017 Thanks crazypoet! Here some detail was destroyed so , cleaning off the rest of the damage and re-creating out of brass|: 1
krow113 Posted January 16, 2017 Author Posted January 16, 2017 Fuel cart rising: Neither the kit or HGW's p/e is adequate to serve for the throttle assy , so a little of this and a little of that: 2
crazypoet Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 I love this! Making things look "right" both from a distance as well as right up-close is a gift and a talent. I can put myself into the cockpit you're building and the instuments all seem to be ready for my hands to reach out and use. Adequate. Quite adequate. 1
krow113 Posted January 21, 2017 Author Posted January 21, 2017 The luck of the adequate! Thanks cpoet! Just lucky to be able to see how things 'look' and manipulate paint and other mediums to adequately recreate that 'look'. Some parts assembled: 2
krow113 Posted February 10, 2017 Author Posted February 10, 2017 Finishing the oxy tanks and the IP : 2
Michaelscarborough Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Looking good, Krow! What are you using for the washes?? Cheers from NYC 2
krow113 Posted February 10, 2017 Author Posted February 10, 2017 Thanks Micheal! I have a set of ComArt thin wash's from Medea if that makes sense. I've used them continuously for years. Can be airbrushed or deployed with a regular brush.Lots of colors and they are bright and workable. You can go back in and remove , as I did on the IP screw details around the edge , flood then go back in and clean up around the details. I bought a set at my LHS and have added to it from Medea's catalogue.
Michaelscarborough Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Good to know.....thanks for the info. I am always looking for new types of washes and will give these a shot. You are clearly getting great results with them! Keep up the good and inspirational work! Cheers from NYC, Michael 1
krow113 Posted February 27, 2017 Author Posted February 27, 2017 Some detailing yet to go as the fuse nears assy. Clamped to keep the lower gun tunnel lips flush: Hate the new look of the forum , funny thing is , I cant remember how it used to be! 1
Michaelscarborough Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 Yes...flush lips are a must...... 1
krow113 Posted March 5, 2017 Author Posted March 5, 2017 ...and the lip did end up flush , I didnt glue the top edge allowing it to move into position without smearing the glue. The small upper edge can have glue wicked in easily now: Interior bomb racks detailed with manual release mechanisms (handle): 1
