Eduard PE for Meng 163 is discontinued

Hi everyone,

I've just noticed that the Eduard PE sets for the Meng ME163 Komet are now discontinued, which seems very early? I believe the kit actually came out in 2014?

So, if you have one in your stash and want to tart it up with some PE, (The Eduard cockpit is gorgeous), you better hurry. Hannants are listing one interior left and the Big Ed has disappeared off their site.

I just bagged a Big Ed set off Ebay for a song :D

Hi Nigel,

sounds a bit fast to take it out of the portfolio. But there is another little helper in form of Yahu Models out there with two IP's for the Meng kit.

Unfortunately there are more serious troubles with the kit itself. Fitting the numerous body parts is a pain, if you go for a closed fuselage. I stalled with the build and WIP some weeks ago because of that and need some mojo to continue.

Cheers Rob

Eduard had a sale a couple months ago and most/all of the PE sets on there were being discontinued. I was a bit surprised as there was quite a bit of 1/32 stuff and some of it was fairly recent too. The Tamiya F4U-1A interior sets, Italeri F-104 sets amongst others were on there.

If you check Hannants, they have a list of all the discontinued sets.

Thanks Carl,

I think I know why.. because they're so bloody expensive!! Most Big Eds cost more than the kit, especially with the big 1/48 kits. I'll go check it out.

Hi Rob,

Thanks for the update. You know what you've done don't you.. you've made me want to start it now!! I do enjoy a problem kit.. I'm currently finishing off a SOD Tamiya Spit Mk IXc.. yawn yawn yawn. Cut part off sprue, clean up, glue in place, repeat.. then if it had exposed pin marks, sink marks and gaps I'd rant that it's crap compared to other Tamiya kits.. there's just no pleasing some people..-_-

OMG!! What is going on?? I wonder if they are only going to do Big Ed sets?

I put Eduard in the manufacturers and B-17 in the search box and no Brassin came up?? Maybe they're not going to do the Lanc and Libby after all??

You seem to like a bit of a challenge, do you? Go for it and enjoy :D. I like a challenge sometimes to, but this one hit me a little off guard, I didn't expect that mess. I'm not a quitter though and that meens, the Komet and me, we need a little time to get along, but we will in the end.

Back to the PE. The Eduard stuff is great and besides the IP, the seat and it's substructures are a gem, but not much will be seen in the end. Fit of the PE is very good.

I can say I would skip the Eduard Cockpit set and grab the Aires resin set, 1. it actually fits with small clean up! 2. The detail is way more detailed! I will see I have pics of the one that I just built.
