Oh good I thrilled that you can use the technique. I’m getting ready to start a Tamiya 1/35 King Tiger with Production Turret and a lot of it including the frontal armor, hull sides, turret etc were all cast. It looks like hell but once painted and weather it looks amazing. I’m using the technique on all my future builds!

I think I’ll try cutting Tamiya tape in very thin strips and see if I can stretch them around the spinners! I’ve seen those two tone spinners also so I’ll go with what’s easiest, lol!!! -

Thanks Martin however both companies shipping is outrageous especially Edwards $24.99 charge for a $6 item!!! Maybe that’s for personal hand delivery, lol!! I’ll see what I can do with Tamiya tape! -

This morning’s while the rest of the condo was quiet I completed step 16 assembling and installing both propellers and the step up rail. We’re expecting another hot day so will spend it touching up some seams and maybe get a coat of primer on it! -

Yeah it’s hotter than the surface of the sun in Richmond VA. So enjoying staying indoors vasking in the AC and building a kit! -
Pretty cool technique. I’ve watched several YouTube videos and this is the results I’m looking for. I think I’ll try the turret and mantle next. Still crossing my fingers!🤞 This is actually quite fun!!! I’m told the technique should be totally random plus once painted and weathered over it’ll look very realistic.

It’s actually very easy. It’s a mixture of Tamiya Putty and Tamiya Extra Thin. Mix it together on a bit of cardboard and then using a stiff bristle brush dab it on the piece. Some use Mr Surfacer 1000, I think, to achieve the same results. It looks a bit rough, and some sand it back a bit afterwards but I didn’t. Remember they were casting tanks not a work of art!! After painting and weathering it looks amazing. Just like real casting marks!!

Absolutely love the detail on those kits. Definitely a long term build!
