How Many Model Shows Will be Cancelled this Year?
Clunkmeister replied to GazzaS's topic in General Discussion
Yep, things are moving quickly here as well. Texas hasn't done anything here as of yet, but nationally, incoming flights from mainland Europe have been suspended for March. People will now need to connect through Britain. Something to do with health screening? That's going to be a huge pain in the posterior for business travellers, but hopefully health screening at just a few airports will help identify if someone is infected. So we have Gatwick, Heathrow, Manchester, Newcastle, Birmingham, Glasgow, and Edinburgh. Did I miss any? Things are going to get pear shaped for a few weeks. -

This is just getting stupid. I went in March and bought an entire trailer load, so I'm good to go. (pun intended) Because everyone here knows I'm full of the dark brown smelly stuff, so I need plenty. Plus, me arse is a bit wider than average, so, well, y'all know. Seriously, there was still plenty at my local Brookshires. -

Looking spot on so far. Welcome, and it’s good to see some more builds progressing. -

Ugh! A month or two of pain will get us through this. I hope. It might be best for all societies to limit travel for a bit. Who knows, I’m not an epidemiologist -

Of course bear in mind that during the Spanish Flu epidemic, we had almost no modern medical miraqctles like we have today. True modern respiratory therapy and treatment didn't exist yey. We were barely one step past using bellows to blow tobacco smoke into a guy's arse to ward off Influenza. I'm by no means saying ignore it all, I'm just saying that common sense precautions such as proper personal hygiene, restricting unnecessary travel, and avoiding large congregations go a long, long way. Much will be difficult to accomplish, especially in this Nation where people just hop into their automobiles at a moment's notice and travel all over the place. In the USA, people don't take kindly to having their personal freedom restricted. -
1/18 P51C Mustang "Lopes Hope 3rd"
Clunkmeister replied to airscale's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Peter, I think the landing gear squat is perfect for a loaded aircraft. So the fact that you're hanging the drop tanks is a good thing I do really like the unshrouded exhaust as well. I feel that those were much more prevalent than we've been led to believe. Just looking at the minor little differences really reinforces how much of an evolution the D model actually was. Little changes everywhere. This model is a true window into history. I can think of no higher praise, Sir. -

Amazing work, Peter. I read about your Mad Moment and smiled. Hey, we all have them, and they're sobering moments for sure. Like when you have something all jigged up and the epoxy happily curing, and one walks past an hour later and find out how much your supposedly secure jig.... wasn't. With corresponding results. -
How Many Model Shows Will be Cancelled this Year?

We have several model shows coming up locally. In a week we have Shreveport IPMS doing Rivercon in April, then Tulsa, then Grapevine with Scalefest in July. The Nationals are at the very end of July. I completely expect this to be done and finished in June, if not before, but again, who knows. I will not let media hype slow me down. Over 10,000 per year die from the Flu every single year in the USA, and that's never worried me before. When my ticket gets punched, I'm gone like a cool breeze, so all's good. Although we need to be aware, I absolutely refuse to be drawn into the hype. WHO and CDC just declared it a panedemic, so we'll see -

We have our first ceases in Frisco, Tx. 20 miles from me, 10 miles from my 79 year old Father in Law. -
In all seriousness, the British mini series from last year shook me to my core. I'm not a big TV watcher these days, but on Martin's suggestion I watched it. With my wife. Bravery on an epic scale. It's hard to fathom how Chernobyl is now such a tourist attraction, but people want to see the place that almost ended life in Eorope as we know it. I can see plenty of applications for kits like those four in cool diorama settings. That deactivator crew looks all the world like the crews who cleaned up Me-163 fuel spills

You guys are sick puppies.

This will be a welcome addition for me. The PZL Wilga is, to me, one seriously cool airplane and one I've never been able to find in 1/32. The Z-37 is a very, very close second and like Hubert said, absolutely lethal to bugs, critters, birds, and pests. What didn't fall victim to it's spray usually got smashed on that big, blunt nose. I'm glad to see HPH finally getting in to the injection game. I've long been a huge fan, builder, and buyer of their kits, and I'm psyched that they're not only releasing the popular Western aircraft, but Eastern European work and utility aircraft as well. Maybe a PZL Wilga sometime down the road as well?

Exactly. But I like to think that around here we tend to be a little better educated and a little clearer of mind. It’s the bloody bovine common cold. We’ve vaccinated cattle for this for 50 years. With normal human hygiene and common sense no brainer safeguards, we should be all ok. I say this as a 50 something, ugly old pre diabetic male with slightly elevated BP. when the Good Lord punches my ticket, I’ll gladly go and y’all can have the Mother of all Stash Parties. Smitty, Tony, and Harv will get that one going. LOL -

I honestly don't think this'll be a big deal in 60 days. The world has an annual Influenza outbreak that infects millions and kills 10s of thousands, and not to sound callous, but it happens every single year, and usually, the old and the infirm fare the worst. And in our groups, we're generally older and some of us have underlying health concerns as well. But overreacting does us no good, either. I hope and pray for everyone's safety and good health. I couldn't bear losing anyone here. The CDC has said that as the weather warms up, it usually mitigates the annual virus outbreaks, and I hope this acts in a historical manner, that's all I have to say. :-/ Maybe we cool it with any unessential travel for a month or two, that alone should help keep outbreaks somewhat localized. The WHO, CDC and others have a pretty good handle on it, and China managed to control the spread and even reduce it once they put mandatory travel restrictions in place. I say we just sit back, don't freak out, and let the highly paid professionals deal with this. It's their chosen field, after all. Peace and prosperity, y'all. -
Smitty bought me some MRP for Christmas last year. I went back to Gunze Mr. Color. Nothing wrong whatsoever with MRP, but I just know Gunze a whole lot better. But being able to spray reliably at 8 psi interests me greatly, though.

Yep, count on mid to high 90s for sure, with a high likelyhood of triple digits. What makes it unbearable is the humidity off the Gulf of Mexico. When you have a South Wind, it can get extremely miserable extremely quickly.

South by Southwest is a HUGE deal, and it’s cancellation is unprecedented. Vendors and performers cancelled and the organizers had no choice. It’s not only a music festival, but also an ad how technology trade show as well, with all the latest software and gadgets showing up. Many. Newcomers with a great idea go there hoping to be noticed. It’s never been my scene, too wild and crazy for me, (I’m a pretty traditional old time Texas type, not one of the new breed), but it’s a massive boost to Austin’s economy. Just remember y’all, Texas in August is HOT. And often very humid. A Phoenix of Vegas heat is doable, but South Texas in the summer? Drink lots of water, wear a hat, and have changes of clothes because you’ll gush sweat like Old Faithful. I’m planning on being there, Maru is coming, and unless things go really pear shaped, one feels that this virus scare will be over by then.

Tamiya F-6D

Tony, that turned out great! After hearing the horror stories of the build, I think it turned out better than you ever could have hoped for. Congrats! And awesome! And I’d love to put it on the LSM Facebook page, if that’s ok! -
Tamiya F4U-1 Birdcage redux
Clunkmeister replied to JohnB's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Looking great, John! Let me know when you’re placing your next mass order, I’ll buy stock. I’ve bought 10 Junkers D.1s two different times, but they were giveaways to grow a brand, notto start my own Staffel! LOL Well done, sir! Well done! -
2nd Annual LSM Christmas raffle and winners list
Clunkmeister replied to Clunkmeister's topic in General Discussion
Yep, but with this health scare, who knows when stuff gets going again. Wingnut production is shut down, as are most others, except maybe Tamiya and Eastern European guys. Might betime to get close to CMK and HPH -
2nd Annual LSM Christmas raffle and winners list
Clunkmeister replied to Clunkmeister's topic in General Discussion
I hope everyone received their gifts safe and sound. All except Carl of course who won the Grand Prize, and chose a Wingnut Wings Dambuster Lanc. I have no earthly idea when that may be released, but when it is, he’ll get one. -
It’s an awesome kit of an amazing aircraft and a great price.

Yeah, thread drift. I'll delete my off topic stuff. I'm the worst offender here by far. Bad on me

Hasegawa P-47 in a week?
Clunkmeister replied to Clunkmeister's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
So we unpacked and decompressed, so let’s finish this thing. engine is OOB except I requisitioned a pair of mags from my stalled Birdcage build. I used Barracuda resin on that one. then I’m going to do a basic wiring job, not perfect, just enough to make it look sorta scale. The ignition ring is all wrong anyway... Yeah I know it needs oil transfer tubes and a bunch more, but this is mostly OOB and fun. And I’ll paint the governor black and the mags grey
