Rob, I agree on the Alclad, with one exception. I used it to do the NMF on my Tamiya Mustang, and I sprayed it over the Alclad black base. (I'll never use that stuff again. It dried in about a month). I was able to mask different panes and spray off tome Alclad panels within a day, along with the glare shield, wingtips, etc. I was extrelely careful about detacking my tape, and didn't encounter one single issue of lifting Alclad. Why? Maybe the base I put down? I have no clue, but I walked away impressed with Alclad.

I used Alclad over black with my RCAF Mustang, and I hit it with MM dullcoat afterwards. It dulled the finish to a very realistic worn aluminum look for me. I wanted used, but not abused.

Gaz, not to worry. I have a 1/48 B-36 in the que and I’ll be leaning on you for help.

The engine side panels are smooth one piece panels back to the firewall, so fill flame damper slots with spruce, fill panel lines with stretched spruce mash, then slather it all with putty.

Carl, that looks awesome, my friend! I’m a huge supporter of Alcoa’s, but I really doubt being able to have a smooth, even coat with no blemishes or thin spots for the entire airframe. Did you use a black base with that silver?

Alclad? Mr. Color metallics? Model Master? Which paint to y'all use for the best results? I've used Alclad with great results, but it can be blotchy over larger areas. I'd love to try foil, but I don't have the time. Comments.

Does anyone have a source for the red fire extinguisher, fire axe, and other emergency crew rescue markings. Does anyone make a decal set for these, or are we kind of on our own here?

picked this up specifically for this build. Hopefully it’ll be quick and easy. So far, my only AM will be resin wheels and hubs. Not much will happen here until my Lanc is done, but I may pick away at it if the Lanc’s indisposed.

Thanks Martin. It’s an easy project, actually. Like how you cut up a resin kit, what do they say? The first cut is the deepest. It’s all downhill from there.

Yes Jeff, I agreed to send Mike Belcher some pics for his use. What he decides to do with them is totally up to him, though.

Spent all my spare time sanding, filling imperfections, scribing, riveting, distressing a few places to look like sheet metal repair patches performed by drunken monkeys. A good, solid coat of white primer let’s me see imperfections. next, mask the areas that will be NMF and hit them with black.

Great review,Jeroen. The Lac is a brilliant kit, and the Dambusters conversion Sprue only adds to it.

And last night I found the Mirror Models Caterpillar D7 7M armored bulldozer that was hiding out in a drawer. THIS should make a VERY interesting model of some D-Day equipment.
