DOLPHIN NOSE a.k.a. MI-17A-5 a.k.a. CH-178

That’s some decent ballistics protection, Martin. Protecting against 7.62mm NATO at 20 yds is not easy for ceramic. I assume the ceramic degrades after each hit, making multiple hits in the same spot to be problematic? Not much good against 50 BMG, but not to many soldiers carry a 50 cal. as a personal weapon. Some good information here. The bird seems well protected. Better than the old Huey, no doubt. Are the saddle tanks self sealing at all? -

The Canadian birds seem to show even more bits of armor tacked on the sides around the pilot. I guess they tacked on bits of steel wherever they could. Many stories of Huey jocks in Vietnam bringing a piece of steel plate to sit on. Protecting the family jewels from the odd well aimed rifle shot is most important -

Tamiya P-51D done
Clunkmeister replied to JohnB's topic in LSM 1/32 and Larger Aircraft Ready for Inspection
Good grief John. I completely missed this build. Stunning result as usual, sir. I love, love, love the scheme. -
Alright Ace McCool, you win. Hehehe

150 ft agl, inverted, shifted load, one’s feathered, the other’s well and truly ablaze, oh, and you can’t find you Jepp charts. Now what? Adapt and overcome? Or quickly call the tower to start filming because it’s going to quickly get really spectacular.
-
Well, ok, you handled it.. LOL

Tony, come raid my unopened Tamiya kit. I had a feeling about the battery and radio from the beginning. Those wartime things were nothing but dead weight on a racer.

I have not been able access the Forums for a couple weeks from my home router using my iPad and iPhone on WiFi. All other websites work well, just not the Forums. However, I can access the Forums no problem using my mobile JetPack WiFi. I have absolutely no problems whatsoever at my business, but it's in another County, 50 miles from home.

DOLPHIN NOSE a.k.a. MI-17A-5 a.k.a. CH-178

Martin, I’ll say this again. If you could make Masters of these parts you’ve made, you’d sell hundreds of what would be a very involved, very nice conversion for the Trumpeter Mi-17. This type of scratchbuilding is beyond the abilities of 98% of builders, but your kit would open the door and nicely fill this wide open gap in modern helicopter modeling. I wish I had just half of the raw talent I’m seeing on display here. -
HO 229 Mysytery Ship build
Clunkmeister replied to harv's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Man,... Harv, trust the resin. It’s a great medium to work with if you treat it right. Just remember it’s NOT styrene. It behaves differently. But if you take your time, you’ll get stellar results. It’s looking great, my friend! -

Martin, this is something I’ve wanted to do for eons, but never had the time and the will both at once. I’m loving this build. It’s amazing how a loading ramp and a Huey style western looking nose completely change the look and character of this reliable old workhorse. Like the breathed new life into an old design. -

Yep, it definitely has a “western” look to it now -
Tony, I have a feeling the battery was moved. If you want to change it, I have an unstarted kit that’s gonna put on its wartime uniform, so I’ll swap you that one for a new one if you wish.
-
Thanks for the tips, Carl. It’s not my favorite aircraft in the world so I haven’t messed with it. But thanks for that. It looks like a simple build so I might give it a go if I’m bored with nothing to do. Ernie

Tony, did the racer retain the heavy wartime radios and battery?
-
Carl I have this kit. Was it a decent build, or a dog?
-
Yep, but you still need to build the basics. I’m thinking mine will be posed with the landing flaps down and the upper dive brakes closed. I’m just not going to totally hide that extraordinary level of detail. But like we said in the Army. “All plans are valid right up to the moment the first bullet flies”.

Veeeeery nice. I’m tuned into this one. Making the capitalist style nose cone wasn’t as bad as I thought. -
So, as expected, it’s looking like HK probably does have a Mk. X planned soon enough. We have a turret hole plug so we’ll have a US built Martin electric turret, and,.. this little goody, part M21, not noticed by me until now. Matter of face, Mike Swinburne 3D printed four of them for me for this and future planned Mk. X builds. The kit part is very basic, and to me it seems too flat. Now, I’ve seen at least two different styles of these midship vents, one somewhat slender like this, and another which is bulkier like Mike’s creation. Mike’s is a much, much nicer part, IMHO, capturing the look I need 100%, AND having a perfectly hollow intake, unlike the kit part upon which there is no intake at all, just a flat face. Check this scoop out. This is a good pic of what we were aiming for. On the opposite side, but still a midships scoop And the second style... And the Martin turret support doublers are strong on this one,...
