  1. Dennis, Beautiful work, and thanks for sharing this here! I am certainly looking forward to seeing her come together. That’s a great photo of your grandfather. Happy New Year, Tom
  2. Excellent work and displays! Cheers, Tom
  3. Thanks guys! This build certainly changed my perspective about Airfix and working with 1/24 scale. Cheers, Tom
  4. A significant part of the operational success of the Hawker Typhoon can be attributed to the actions of Wing Commander Roland Prosper "Bee" Beamont, CBE, DSO & Bar, DFC & Bar. At a time when operations were in doubt due to airframe and engine issues, he demonstrated the potential of this airplane in ground attack and low altitude operations. I thought it only appropriate to dedicate my build of the Airfix 1/24 Cardoor Mk 1B Typhoon to depicting one of his aircraft. I loved this build: exceptional fit, engineering, accuracy, attention to detail. All of this is a testimony to the Airfix design team. They certainly impressed me! Certainly some challenges: some flash, parts cleanup, and tricky fitting (especially the cowl). Yet as this build took shape I smiled again and again at this impressive kit. This was certainly one of my favorite builds in recent years! The only aftermarket I added was the BarracudaCast carburetor intake and the Montex Masks. The only extra detailing I added was to the inside of the car door; otherwise everything else is the kit! Painted with Tamiya paints and my Aztek 470 airbrush. Hope you like it! Cheers, Tom
  5. Drifter and Ernie, Thank you both for your support and encouragement! A big part of the fun of this hobby for me is to share my projects and see what others are working on. Thank you and this forum for that opportunity! Happy Holidays! Tom
  6. Thank you everyone! I held off purchasing this kit for years. 1/24 scale? Too big, not for me. Airfix? Fit and accuracy issues. But I now have to tell you that this is one of my favorite builds in memory. For a cost equivalent to a Wingnut Wings kit this has everything: exceptional engineering, accuracy, unprecedented surface detail. Yes it’s big but still about as big as my 1/32 P-61. I have the bubbletop kit and will build that as well! Cheers, Tom
  7. Last update before the RFI: I finished the landing gear (still need to add the tire slip markers), added the exhausts, the canopy (still need to add the car door details), and repositioned the starboard "G" (Try that with a decal!). Not much left! Cheers, Tom
  8. No worries Martin! I’m hoping that Airfix had it right, that the larger fuselage roundels on this particular aircraft stayed a little longer! I will post an update very soon. Cheers, Tom
  9. Martin, thanks! I did see those photos, and good spot on the lower wing. This photo was taken when the early Typhoon had the exposed cannons. When the fairings were later added in 1943 I assume the lower wing roundels were revised...but then the fuselage roundels probably were as well! At this point I will leave it as is, until I can get more reference info. Cheers, Tom
  10. Fantastic work Kai! One of my stalled builds is DW-O of 610 squadron, which had the fin flash colors reversed (you can see it in your above photo). Your build is looking great so far. Cheers, Tom
  11. This will be so much fun! I built this kit as well, along with the Revell Spitfire. Your post will have me reminiscing as well. Cheers, Tom
  12. Thanks for the kind comments! All the masking done except for the lower wing. Cheers, Tom
  13. Thanks Martin! It is exciting to make some progress. Cheers, Tom
  14. Starting to apply the markings, using Montex masks. With the surface detail on this kit, please don’t use decals! Cheers, Tom
  15. Peter, Thank you! You will have a blast, and I would really enjoy watching your work. I didn’t encounter any issues, but it might be because I didn’t have the engine exposed, or maybe I wasn’t paying attention like I should! Cheers, Tom
  16. Rob, thanks, you are very kind! I was hoping for this effect by using a fine/medium tip with the airbrush. It certainly took longer to paint but I have better control and less overspray. Cheers, Tom
