  1. Seriously? ... Do we know that for a fact it is a Trumpeter kit? ... If so, it would be a boon for Trumpy, eh? ... ... "And here's one Trumpeter prepared for us earlier!" ... Classic! Rog
  2. This - posted today on the VOLKS FB page and on the ZM website: https://www.facebook.com/volksusascale/posts/1655287354732883 Rog
  3. Heinz told me he saw the masters WIP while chatting with Jiri and Mirek when visiting HpH about mid last year. He also told me about the Ta-154 (not announced publicly at the time) and that I had to keep the A-20 a secret for now ... Since Heinz mentioned it a couple of days back on the "HpH News" thread over on LSP ... It is no longer secret. Rog
  4. Ok ... So, the heretofore mentioned mysterious American twin has now been announced ... and it is: an A-20 Havoc ... That's right folks, probably due later this year too!! Rog
  5. Radu ... that still leaves the following on my list ... And as the point of my list suggests ... So you gave me 50% ... better than Steve ... I'm sure you could find another 5 or 10 kit options that would sell better than what's on offer And as for the rest of my list ... which competitor makes a Battle? or Do.17z? ... If they tooled up a new Beaufighter, the only competition is their old tool kit - which sold how many re-pops to a previous modelling generation? They're coming up against arguably the best Trumpeter offering in 1/32 - which has been on the market for quite a number of years now, with loads of great reviews ... and they're not even producing the most popular variant at that ... Don't get me wrong - they'll sell (as did all the other kit issues previously) - But that doesn't change the point that there are completely new subjects that would sell much better for them - and existing platforms that, with a little tweaking and some new sprues would take out a fair chunk of RD and Tooling expenses, putting more cash back into the company. Maybe the Battle or BPD was a little far fetched, but not by all that much ... Rog
  6. Hi Dennis ... Happy New Year! ... Apologies in advance for the 'detailed' reply - but you seemed a little confused by Cee's reply so I thought to explain further ... We are currently on a 'thread' (this topic - entitled "And now for something a little different") ... * If you are talking about an entirely new 'thread' or topic, you actually have to get out of this one before you can start another one ... You can't start one from here. To do this ... I find it easier to go back to the main page and start from there, as at least you can follow the various sections and subsections down the page until you get to the precise section that you want to post the topic to. To do all of this ... * Scroll back up to the top of this page. When you get there look at the top right hand corner. You should see the LSM logo ... under that will be the toolbar with your site 'handle' (name) and avatar etc ... directly under that will be the following: Large Scale Modeller > LSM Modelling > LSM Aircraft Work In Progress * Click your mouse cursor on the "Large Scale Modeller" button to get you home ... then find your subsection (relating to the topic you want to create) Example: Let's say you want ask a question relating to referencing (personal knowledge, books, webpages etc) on this particular aircraft ... Firstly, you can post the question here, in this thread ... But just in case people take ages to see it and reply - or to reach a wider audience ... you can post a new topic: "Question relating to XYZ". Looking down the list from the home page ... "Modelling Discussion" seems to be the best fit - It's going to grab the widest audience and the topic is in line with ... well, modelling! * Click on "Modelling Discussion" ... You will then see the button in the top left corner of the subtopic/section that Cee's is referring to ... and away you go! NOW ... If you're talking about an addition to this topic ... like an update? ... just do it via the bottom of the page in the "Reply to this topic" window. Oh ... a helpful tip also when posting (looking over your original post, as I have) ... in order to avoid the pictures breaking up your narrative as they have in your original post - type something relating to a following picture ... when finished hit "enter/return" (depending on your keyboard) about 3 or 4 times. click your cursor on the line (one you've just created) that's giving you a single line space after the snippet you've just written ... then post your pic! ... then, give yourself another line space before your next pic or narrative (by hitting "enter/return" 3 or 4 times originally, you should be able to do this) ... obviously you need to 'create' more lines if you have several pictures. If you wanted to edit the Original post here to "pretty" it up a little ... you can do that by scrolling down to the bottom of that particular post ... there should be 3 green buttons there and one of them will be labeled "edit". Click that and the screen will give you a window with your original text posted as if you were going to post it for the first time ... click your cursor on the various places where you want to do do your editing as you go ... at the end of that process click the "Save Changes" button directly under that window ... Hopefully that covers everything? Rog
  7. Ok ... so pick two ... and swap one out - the F-8 for Mk.IIa Spit ... That's 3/10 - each a better choice and considerably more profitable that the current selection! ... does my head in! Rog
  8. Agreed ... What a waste on "New Tooled" space! ... seriously! Great business plan moving forward ... "Let's take 2 subjects that have already been done, in this scale, extensively and reasonably accurately - and re-do them!" And before anyone slams me for being biased ... I'll list 10 subjects that either haven't been done or so freaking 'old tool' (or crap renditions) that they'd all sell twice as many as either of these choices Revell have made! * Do.17z ... Ok ... so this is my bias - I have to get it out of the way first! - Completion of the BoB bomber line up * Another Iteration of the Ju.88 ... Pick one, any one! ... Half the sprues are already tooled for crying out loud! * A New tool Beaufighter - lends itself to the sort of modular construction for further iterations as with the Ju.88 * P.51-B ... I know HK have decided to look into one, now ... but while Revell were farting around here - they might have already gone there! * Fairey Battle or P.40 (Sorry I couldn't decide!) * Boulton Paul Defiant * Hurricane Mk.I * Bf109.F * Spitfire Mk.Vb ... A couple of small changes to the existing Mk.IIa kit with a new sprue for wings - This kit wasn't particularly accurate - but neither was the Hobby Boss 'burger with the lot' kit ... compare Revell prices to Hobby Boss?? * A.20 Havoc Let's say you disagree with 50-70% of those choices ... that still leaves 3-5 that would work better than those selected! Sorry guys ... but the above mentioned comments (Andreas, not yours Steve) got my dander up! ... I politely responded as best I could ... But, crikey! ... This release news was disappointing enough to say the least - and then someone tries it on with that load of garbage! Steve ... I couldn't agree more!! Rog
  9. ... Plus kitchen bench for coffee breaks / snacks ... you could survive for days at a time! Rog
  10. Most of mine are self inflicted - watching on the laptop. But there's not much else I've been able to do except upload photo's from my trip to the Philippines etc ... I've been feeling under the weather since Christmas Day ... I thought getting out and making a trip to the local hobby suppliers might perk me up a bit - but it just drained me instead. I'm sure I'll be back up and running in a day or so ... That's ok ... Mike's a Mod - he'll organise for it to be switched when he has time. Rog
  11. Mike ... That's a great idea - In fact, you beat me to the punch! I've been quite i'll for the last few days and unable to do much of anything except clean the resin and some minor assemblies ... The rest of the time I've been laid up reading and watching crappy movies in bed. It's all been quite disappointing - While I still hope to get a lot done before going back to work on the 4th, there's no way I'll meet the deadline now ... Rats! Rog
  12. Thanks George ... Haven't a lot of time to post a reply due to the build ... I grabbed a couple of Tamiya Primers while I was out at the hobby supplier yesterday (I needed a few things, so I just added some primer to the list) Also, I have to pop by the panel repairer with my car this week to get something sorted, so I'll ask the question about tinned automotive acrylic gear while I'm there also!! Rog
  13. Thank you!!! ... both for the invaluable info and for immediately grabbing the spirit of this thread!! Detailed answers (that are self clarifying) are required ... not only for me ... but for beginners looking in ... Have been a little busy, both with the build and with other stuff, in the last 24-48 hours so no posting yet ... hopefully a summary by tomorrow evening! ... Rog
  14. Seasons greetings to everyone here!!! ... No special items for Christmas gifts ... but I lovely gift non-the-less - My girlfriend agreed to marry me!! Rog
  15. Hi All ... Just a couple of quick questions: I've been told that I need to wash the resin before I work with it, so: * Will normal dish washing soap be ok? * How hot/warm does the water need to be? * Will I need to scrub the parts with a brush or just immerse them ... and if so, for how long? Also ... I don't normally "prime" my plastic before painting - with Tamiya acrylics ... * Do I really have to prime the resin or the photo etch? * Will Tamiya acrylics stick to either properly? Rog

  17. INTRODUCTION PART #2 Ok … back with the second part of the intro ... For the "E" (commonly referred to as the "Emil") variant there are two front runners in 1/32 scale. When I say this ... I'm referring to a combination of overall accuracy (against the real thing), appropriate level and crispness of detail provided ... and ease of fit and finish. These kit's are: the Eduard 1/32 series and the Cyber Hobby (Dragon or DML) 1/32 Series. Eduard (unfairly in my opinion) got a bit of a hammering about it's accuracy, fit and finish when reviewed upon release ... and sure, when you compare it to the more recent Cyber Hobby kit, it does fall a little short ... but from the builds I've seen online, it doesn't take all that much to scrub it up into a decent, accurate display of the real thing. Run a Google search, ask a few questions on the forums (look at the suggestion posted above already!!) … and you'll see what I'm talking about. The (Real) E-1 variant was released to front line fighter units only a very short time before before the E-3 ... So the only real difference was in the armament upgrade to two, wing mounted 20mm FF Cannons replacing the previously installed wing mounted MG's - which, in turn, necessitated some reworked paneling both above and below the aircraft wings . Cyber Hobby (to date) has only released the Cannon equiped variety ... so the decision was: either modify the Cyber Hobby E-3 in the appropriate wing areas ... Or build Eduards E-1 (the only manufacturer to produce this variant in 1/32 scale). Since I've never done any scratch building work (essentially - build your own components and modifications!!), I decided not to push my luck too far and tackle a reasonable amount of "Firsts" to begin with ... Ok, so, let's set up! … to the workroom! Er ... probably not! ... I haven't built anything for quite some time so the area's been used for storage. Time to relocate, temporarily ... to here: Move a few things around and set up ... about 10 minutes this morning ... and Voilà! Add my modelling "Tool Chest" on wheels along with a couple of reference books ... ... and now the kit ... Eduard's 1/32 Bf.109E-1 ProfiPACK. Looking back at the other thread I started ... I had asked the question about what sort of gear I was going to need in order to tackle this adventure ... Again, a big thank you to all of those who posted their thoughts, options and encouragement ... I purchased my gear inside the country in order to reduce shipping times and came away with: From Supplier number 1 at a grand total of $286.35 AUD: * Super Detail-Up Resin parts for 1/32 BF109E - Eduard BigSin (this is the upgrade set I'll be using!) * Photo Etch Workstation - The 5.5 (5 Speed) Hold and Fold Works. * Tamiya Thin Blade Craft Saw (2 blades) * CMK Saw Blades 5 Pcs - 2 Sided (Ultra Smooth and Extra Smooth) * CMK Saw Blade Handle * Diamond File set 3 Pcs ... and from Supplier number 2 at a grand total of $118.92 AUD: * Tamiya Paint Stirrer * Tamiya Modelling Scissors ... [PE Specific] * Zap-A-Gap - 5 Minute Quick Set Epoxy - 4 oz * Zap-A-Gap - Cyanoacrylic Thick Viscosity Slo Dry - 2 oz * Zap-A-Gap - Debonding Agent For Cyanoacrylic - 30 ml * Zap-A-Gap - Kicker - 2 oz * Zap-A-Gap - Canoacrylic Medium Viscosity - 2 oz * Zap-A-Gap - Flexi Tips (24 pk) ... [these things are some sort of flexible applicator] So ... Just pause for a minute of thought here ... Obviously these products cost a bit of money at $405.27 ... the kit itself, when I bought it, came in at $75.00 AUD ... So just the upgrade at $103.95 was worth quite a bit more. But it's all relative ... I hear complaints all the time about certain kits being "Too expensive" - HpH's recent release of a Ta.154 kit comes to mind. At about $310.00 AUD, including the FedEx shipping to my door from the Czech Republic, it's actually not so bad at all - considering that the kit has just about every detail you could possibly want to use for a detailed build up!! In other words, no After Market accessories (AM) needed. As I said ... just food for thought. Yes, I know that I'm going to get multiple use out of most of these items (heck, there are even spares here to replace wear-and-tear ... but just the kit and the upgrade (without postage), putting it all about on par with HpH's level of detail inclusions, is about $180.00 AUD. At the end of Christmas day here ... I have some tidying up to do around the home ... and some other stuff to organise. I'll be getting an early night - because I have a LOT of work to do here tomorrow!! ... Kind of exciting, really! See you all tomorrow! Rog
  18. INTRODUCTION PART #1 Hi all ... One of the most annoying things in life is watching people have a great deal of fun, while standing on the outer as you're wishing you could participate (for whatever reason)! There are always Group Builds (GB's) going on ... and although my skill set is as dodgy as a $3 bill, I've always wanted to have a go - provided I have something that fits within the subject matter - which is usually not the case! This year, more than any other, has been busy as all get out and I've usually only had time to pop into the forums to check the mail and post the odd comment - never mind Group Builds, I haven't even had time to dust any kits off and fondle plastic!! ... I've watched in frustration as LSM has had no less than 3 current Group Builds that all give me an entry point ... and they all end on 31st December. Work has now changed (I was informed of this while on Annual leave with my wife-to-be in the Philippines back in November) ... and with the end of the FIFO contract work, I'm back on the road locally - which means that, along with the rest of the technicians I'm on Christmas break from Dec 24th to Jan 3rd ... which sparked an idea ... As per the below discussion thread started a couple of weeks ago: http://forum.largescalemodeller.com/topic/4272-tools-for-resin-and-photo-etch/page-1 I'm going to attempt this mission ... to build a Bf.109E-1 (1940) with a full Eduard Brassin upgrade, before the Dec 31st deadline! This build contains a number of "Firsts" for me ... * It will be my first ever public build - I've never posted my work online before ... largely because my skill set fits firmly into the beginners category ... and when you're just gawking at the amazing work of others posted online, while learning some new techniques, you're also learning how far behind the rest of the pack you really are! ... no matter - everyone has to start somewhere, right??!! * It will be the first time I have ever worked with resin - I've bought a number of resin kits (and a couple of mods) for the stash ... but apart from having a look inside the boxes, I've never touched them. * It will be the first time I've used Photo Etched metal parts this extensively - Previous metal components have been limited to brass barrels from various manufacturers and the odd sticky (self adhesive), pre coloured Photo Etch detail. In reference to my first point above, I decided that I'd document this build in detail - hopefully so that more "First Timers" or beginners will gain some understanding from my experiences on the "How To's" and gain some confidence to have a go in future. ** so bear in mind as you read AND comment that this thread is worded and targeted for BEGINNERS ** ... I mentioned above that there were 3 Group Builds going on simultaneously ... I wanted to at least have a go at the "Spitfire" GB as well so I was thinking of a simple, straight Out Of Box (OOB) build of the 1/32 Tamiya Mk.IXc ... but then I figured I might not have enough time. With the sad passing of Edgar Brooks (a leading specialist on the aircraft and an irreplaceable reference, really!) a "Tribute" Spitfire GB has started on the LSP (Large Scale Planes) forum - so even if I can't complete a build here, I'll have time to finish it off over there! Then I also thought of this resin upgrade caper, I also thought of my Hobby Boss Mk.Vb - and the HpH resin correction set I have on the shelf ... and that's when the idea was born for Build #2. There was no way I was going to have enough time to get involved in the HK Models GB ... BUT (Merry Christmas to me!) ... there's a new "HK Models Official Contest" arcing up as of January 1st - so I get another opportunity! Thanks guys - Build #3!! ... I digress ... Back to the the 109 and Build #1 ... It's Christmas Day ... and I have to do some family stuff etc ... I've run out of time for the moment ... Introduction Part #2 to follow later today! Rog
  19. Well ... The package from Supplier 1 arrived today with the correction set and some tools ... so we're off to a good start ... Better think about setting up that build thread soonish ... 1 more working day to go, and then I'm on leave, yay! Rog
  20. That's the beauty of this one (I think??) ... I'm not sure anyone (at least with a build thread, that is) has used it before!! I'll have to wait till I get it and cut/clean the parts for assembly before I decide exactly how to proceed ... I have a couple of ideas I'd like to look at (One involving spare Tamiya magnets from an old P-51D build) ... further musings about the what, when and how, I'll stick on the build thread. BTW ... that link to your efforts for ease of access will be appreciated. Rog
  21. John ... With the upgrade - I'm thinking this won't be an issue anymore ... http://www.eduard.com/store/Eduard/Bf-109E-1-32-1.html Especially since the above comes with a new resin cowl!! Now that bit ... I didn't remember seeing! ... Don't worry - If I run into any difficulty in the build, I'll be throwing the "really obvious clarifying questions" out there ... there's a couple of Eduard Bf109E-1 build threads I remember seeing around the place ... I saw a nifty simple fix (gap fill and scribe) for the oversized leading wing edge slats somewhere ... so that's the sort of thing I'll be trying to emulate ... maybe some paint mixing and weathering too! Rog
  22. Hi everyone ... I wanted to thank you all for your input - and let you know how I got on ... I've done a double order - through two Aussie suppliers (ex-east). As you can probably understand, I had to keep the order local in order to have any chance at all - of getting the gear before the Christmas break. Hell ... As it is - some of it may not be here at all during the break, but I've given it a red hot crack! ... I'm going to have to improvise with some of it - No-one has any RB stuff in stock ... One of the suppliers rang the morning after I did the order to tell me they hadn't got the CA glue applicator, that I ordered from them, in stock! ... helpful hint from the IPMS sales dude on the phone? - use bamboo skewers from the local supermarket?!? ... Well ... it's worth a crack, I guess! Mission Impossible: Build, to completion, a Bf109E-1 (Probably using the Eduard Profimodeler kit in the stash) with the BigSin upgrade ... Hopefully, during the period I'm on break (24th Dec to 3rd Jan - inclusive) I've never posted a build thread anywhere before ... partly to avoid criticism of my retarded building skills - I'm seriously deficient when compared to the majority of builds posted online. I've never done anything exciting like pre-shading ... never played with resin ... weathering has been pretty much none existent and I tend to use my Tamiya acrylics straight from the bottle (excepting thinners) with no colour modulation - so nothing is ever 100% as it should be. I see plenty of scratch, resin and PE work online ... but it mainly comes across like "... and this is what I did." -> posted as a fait accompli instead of showing the entire process used. I, therefore use the forums to - A / Find out about new products, B / Buy products I'm chasing and C/ Ogle everyone else's work. **Edit** - I just read this part after posting - and it looks a bit too critical and arrogant ... I've actually learned quite a bit from forums, really ... An example of what I'm talking about above, would go like this: Joe has a build thread for a resin model kit ... a wing-half, out of the kit box, is discovered to be out of shape ... some sort of warping. He mentions that it's no drama ... He's just stuck it in some hot water for a while ... the wing returned to it's original mould shape. Ta-Da! ... Ok ... So ... What was the water temperature when you inserted it? ... Was the Water "held" at the same temperature during the process? (i.e. under heat?) ... For how long was the item inserted ... What consistency was the Item when it was removed from the water ... When did it "return" to it's correct shape - during or after? So this will be my FIRST EVER online build ... And although I'd like to label it "Modelling for Retards - adding enhancements" ... I don't think that is PC enough. But it will be something, I hope, to encourage those with a "beginners" skill set - by showing all my "first time" efforts online ... and posting a bucketload of really obvious clarifying questions (that most experienced builders would know the answers to). Here's a "shopping list" of all the gear currently incoming ... From Contestant number 1: * Super Detail-Up Resin parts for 1/32 BF109E - Eduard BigSin * Photo Etch Workstation - The 5.5 (5 Speed) Hold and Fold Works. * Tamiya Thin Blade Craft Saw (2 blades) * CMK Saw Blades 5 Pcs - 2 Sided (Ultra Smooth and Extra Smooth) * CMK Saw Blade Handle * Diamond File set 3 Pcs From Contestant number 2: * Tamiya Paint Stirrer * Tamiya Modelling Scissors ... [PE Specific] * Zap-A-Gap - 5 Minute Quick Set Epoxy - 4 oz * Zap-A-Gap - Cyanoacrylic Thick Viscosity Slo Dry - 2 oz * Zap-A-Gap - Debonding Agent For Cyanoacrylic - 30 ml * Zap-A-Gap - Kicker - 2 oz * Zap-A-Gap - Canoacrylic Medium Viscosity - 2 oz * Zap-A-Gap - Flexi Tips (24 pk) ... [these things are some sort of flexible applicator] Cheers for now ... Rog
  23. I looked this one up (always ready to look at something new!) ... The JB site is telling me that JB Quick Weld is epoxy?! Rog
  24. Thanks John ... Any Idea about the glues brands to look for? ... Or the accelerator? ... What is Future? Rog
  25. Thank you James and George!! I've found the Small Tools section on the site I'm purchasing from and they have RB gear too ... Found some diamond files also They have a whole bunch of glues ... is there a list of particular brands that are decent (Googled, and not sure we have Devcon in Australia) - I know from experience that some are just not worth the bother! ... I've used some really cheap 'thin' CA in the past - for brass stuff ... but the only epoxy I've used before is Araldite, which was a 24 hour proposition. Cheers Rog
