1. Thanks Nick and Doogs ... Yes ... I've picked up a couple of Dragon kits recently with "DS Tracks" ... although I have to admit that, as yet, I haven't actually built them or tried them out - I am still skeptical. As for the vehicles ... all are German WWII but vary ... 8 ton half tracks, 251's, 250's, Pz.II 'Luchs' (is probably one of the more unusual ones) ... To be honest, I haven't actually gone through my stash yet ... that will be something happening over the next few days though (for PE and brass/alu barrel upgrades as well) ... I will check AFV out ... and Bronco ... I was kinda hoping there would be one "go to" brand for the lot. Rog
2. ... ... I DO seem to remember mentioning this in some other form somewhere?!?!
3. Hi all ... I love my 1/35 panzers - in fact any (German WWII) Figurines, AFVs, Artillery etc besides I also love Dragon versions of these kits (and some Tamiya I don't mind) ... The main thing I like ... is Magic Tracks ... as opposed to the 'rubber band' variety. I get the right amount of 'track sag' and everything looks just that little bit more realistic. I have a few kits with rubber bands ... more importantly ... a few Dragon kits with the annoying things!!! ... I wish to replace them with Magic tracks (or similar) I DON"T want metal tracks (like the Fruilmodel ones) ... just plain old, reasonably cheap-ish placcy ones ... Can anyone help with manufacturers on the market atm?? Rog
4. ... perhaps something like a scaled down DB601 engine so that you can close up the cowl on an Eduard Bf 109??
5. Heya ... thanks!! The HPH catapult is EXACTLY what I'll be using!! ... I've ordered one (along with a Walrus). The idea is to display it in a long glass wall cabinet alongside a 1/200 Bismark (hence the markings) and a 1/32 Swordfish (Ark Royal markings) ... I THINK, I might have the problem solved!! It seems the "I" on the markings is exactly like the "L" with the bottom chopped off ... I'm pretty sure I can adapt the Revell decals Rog
6. Ahhh ... thanks guys!! So in short, no obvious AM turned metal barrels around, but probably won't need them anyway! I was unsure ... to be honest, I haven't dealt with resin before ... I honestly didn't know what to expect (although I know from build threads and in-box reviews - it's an excellent kit!) ... Brass or Alu tend to look sharper and more detailed than anything else ... The problem with waiting until the kit arrives, is that I'll be no better off with it - I'll be ordering online so I can't do side-by-side comparisions - hence the question. @ Matt ... yes Google wouldn't be the greatest help - since most barrels are designed with a specific Target in mind (i.e. Sptifire Mk.IX etc). But as Doogs says above, apparently the C/E wing Spits carry something that looks entirely different anyway ... Bugger! Thanks again guys Rog
7. @ Doogs & Matt ... Thanks for the heads up! I had read about the inability of the Eduard kits to 'button up' the engine once fitted. The only reason for buying the E-1 was to display it 'ready to go' ... or with cowl fitted, in the paint scheme that ajcmac is using on his build thread on here - It would be handy to be able to display the engine, but given that you can't, my preference is to do away with it - unless there are AM options for a 'fix' out there? I suppose I could just go ahead and buy one anyway ... whats the deal with the resin AM nose, Matt - how did that work? Rog
8. Ok ... posted this on LSP and didn't get any sort of real answer ... After about 2-3 years of drooling at the lovely in-box reviews and build threads of this little gem, I've finally got one inbound ... Out with the old (Revell) and in with the new (MDC) ... So ... for those who have seem this kit 1st hand ... Would it be worth grabbing some brass/alu barrels for the thing? AND ... If so ... what size/type would I be after?? Rog
9. ... go for it Brad - if it works for you!!
10. Hey guys ... I appreciate that you admire the DML/Cyber Hobby Wing Tech kits ... and I'll admit they are really nice - I have one ... But in Re-reading the reviews I posted links to earlier (from LSP) ... There look to be just as many flaws in it as in others realy ... I have 3 Trumpy Emils ... and One DML ... all are built ... the Trumpy's were far easier to put together for me and therefore more enjoyable (The cowl on the DML P**sed me off no end) ... and realy, for me, its a case of spot the difference - I have to use the above mentioned links and REALLY look to spot the flaws ... I dunno ... but I think the Trumpy is ok really for 99.9% of the population ... I was told by the 'brand police' that Eduard is the 'best' kit (not that I pay THAT much attention!). But I was thinking about grabbing the E-1 ??? ... suggestions??
11. ... well ... if I was using them every day of the week and for the last 20 years ... I might have made do with that option. ;) but since i have to read the label ... and a reference chart I made up on a spreadsheet, to check I have the right Tamiya colour ... then I doubt the idea would work for me
12. @ Nick ... for eg?????
13. I had the rattlecan left over from a previous rental property I was living in ... when cleaning out for inspection (after 4 years) I bought a can of semi gloss white to do ceiling touch ups where some marks were left from moving furniture ... waste not - want not, and it turned out to be the perfect match for the inside of the drawers as you can see. Besides ... at $3.50 per 10ml bottle of Tamiya acrylic white ... I wasn't going to waste 3 or 4 bottles on a peice of furniture it only cost $10 to make ;) Rog
14. A detailed couple of articles on various kits available for the 109E ... Parts 1 and 2 available ... dunno what happened to part 3 ??? http://www.largescaleplanes.com/articles/article.php?aid=747 http://www.largescaleplanes.com/articles/article.php?aid=748 Regards Rog
15. Actually ... to be honest ... That was my original Idea ... but to buy a good quality tool trolley out here (the ones with bearing roller drawers) with enough room for ALL my gear - and I won't buy the cheap ones that get stuck all the time - it was going to cost me inexcess of $250-$300 ... and THEN I still had to buy a suitable "bench", lamp etc ... I remembered my desk set up from my old banking days ... the modular heavy duty malamine stuff ... and went to see one of the local suppliers for some second hand auction stuff ... I came away with a used 1800mm x 900mm desk and 2 castor fitted drawer cabinents (bearing rollers). Both have two small stationery drawers at the top and one deep suspension file drawer down bottom (perfect for the Dremel case, airbrush compressor and assorted larger items!! ... I even bought some thick sponge mat, drilled a hole for the AC power supply and air hose!!! with the drawer shut, the noise of the compressor is significantly muted!!). All for less than $250 ... my extention arm magnifier lamp cost $120 ... ... I already have an old office chair ... all set up for just over $350 ... not bad Rog
16. ... lmao
17. Hiya Mikester Thanks for you help and the link ... someone over at LSP gave me that one too ... Yes ... It seems with whats available out there I can model recce planes from the Tirpitz, Scheer and Graf Spee ... and a variety of others weird and wonderful subjects! Now ... Unit badge?? ... would you be referring to the little avatar drawing on or near the cowl?? ... like the seahorse on blue shield background for example?? If so ... I believe that the seahorse was was common to all Arados attached to Kreigsmarine as recce aircraft ... the decals drawings for the Scheer and Graf Spee certainly had one. I have the fuse markings for all four Bismark Arados in reference material for my Bismark 1/200 kit ... who would make custom for the Arado in 1/32?? Regards Roger
18. Ok folks ... I've done the mandatory Google search before succubing to a post here ... My boss rang me 2 weeks ago to ask me what I wanted for my birthday ... we generaly get a shot at something around about $50 ... give or take $10. Most of the lads grab a carton of beer ... But I wanted something a little different ... and then I remembered my "Stash Order" list ... So I told him I would really like a 1/32 Revell Arado 196 A-3 ... "a what?" he says! Today I have it in my hot little hands (not while I'm typing of course!!) BUT ... I was hoping for some decals depicting one of the recce planes from the Bismark ... no such luck!! Does anyone make a batch of AM decals for one of these (specifically to suit a Bismark reference)?? ... I'll need some swastikas too! Rog
19. lol Nick ... haven't you heard that it's impolite to take pic's up a ladys skirts!! ;)
20. ... lol fellas ... it's about the ONLY thing in relation to modeling that I have "scratch-built"
21. Darn ... I hate not seeing these things!! ... I've added it to my "Stash Order" list ... but I have to pay off a PCM Order and scoop up a couple of LTD run kits now before I can grab one - of each
22. YES ... It worked!!!
23. Ok ... so when getting back into the hobby ... there's that inevitable "tooling up" period ... You know ... buying brushes, airbrush, various modeling tools, paints etc ... Organising all this 'stuff' so that you can lay your hands on it without having to get up, while in the middle of an important task, becomes a mission in itself ... While in the LHS purchasing a rather large batch of Tamiya paints (I hate having 15 different brands around) ... I was looking at the display cage for them and thought ... "geez I wish I had something like that, so I could see the different paint labels without having to lift each one up and examine them to make sure I have the right colour" ... So with that in mind ... I got out the old trig, a calculator and some MDF sheets I had lying around ... and embarked on this little side project ... Trivial I know, but it works for me ... Regards Rog
24. ... thanks heaps for your time Martin ... I'll give it a crack
