Thanks Peter. Fingers crossed it turns out nice. So far so good!

I decided to re-do this model in USN colors. Got a nice start. I had to remove all the underwing pylons and fill the mounting holes first. Then on to masking off the canopy and getting the rest of the model ready for painting gloss white.

Conundrum for sure! If I built it I have no doubt I'd be kicking myself later on. What I will have to address sooner or later is what to do with all my built-up's and collection of oldies. Here's a couple of shots of my oldie collection. -

Thanks Scott. Those Trumpeter P-40's really are bad. I got a P-40F and it's terrible in my opinion. Maybe the B is better since it has different dimensions, etc. Lots of things wrong with the rest of them that I won't go into but you can find some build reviews on line that detail those although I did see one over on the "other site" where the guy (whom I know) said the kits were great. I wondered what he'd been smoking...... I have a Hasegawa "N" that is the 15,000 anniversary version that came with all the various nations markings. I've been tempted to build it lately but I just can't bring myself to do it since it's so hard to find and when you do find one it's costly. I guess I'd sell it but it wouldn't be cheap LOL. -

Finished with this one. https://forum.largescalemodeller.com/topic/20218-hasegawa-p-40e-darwin-rfi/ -
Finished with this one. The seat belts from FineMolds and the prop blades from Grey Matter are the only after market items. The OD uppers are painted with Testor's OD while the undersides are painted with Floquil gray. Decals are all from my decal stash. I hope y'all like it! 😀 Remember: Click on the 1st image, etc, etc.

Thanks! I had always thought it was black. The Insignia Blue IS pretty dark and can easily be misinterpreted as black. 🙂 -

Thank you Peter. I too had always thought it to be black and in some cases it probably was. Hard to tell! -

Thanks Chris. FineMolds belts as usual which are my "go to" belts. The prop "adjustment" turned out to be easier than I expected. No sweat surprisingly. 🙂 -

Thanks Carl. You will like the kit. A easy build with good fit, etc. Lots of different schemes to do too. 🙂 -

It's Insignia Blue but it can surely appear to be black! LOL -

Turned out just fine I think. I can see why folks sometimes think that it's black as the insignia blue certainly is dark. -

I decided to use a stencil for the US Army under the wings. Insignia Blue so I hope it looks "right" after I remove the stencils. -

Model Master was always my "go to" paint. Wish Testor's hadn't stopped production. At least we still have the small bottles of their enamels. I keep a stock of their OD.
-
Some of them are thin enough to use without thinning. You have to be careful spraying any of them as they will "burn" the plastic if over sprayed. A couple of light coats is the solution to that.

Thanks. I say get one and build it. They are nice kits with no real fit problems and a very low "cuss-factor". -
Yes, they are pretty old but, surprisingly, still good. They all have a good "seal" on the lid that must be the reason.

Looks like the lacquer thinner works okay. Thanks guys for the help!!! 😀

Thanks!! 🙂

Thank you Kevin! I have some Tamiya lacquer thinner so I'll give it a try. 😀
