Revell FW-190A-8 RFI
JohnB replied to JohnB's topic in LSM 1/32 and Larger Aircraft Ready for Inspection
Thanks! I'm pleased that you like it. YES, that engine/cowling fit was a bear! High cuss-factor all around. I had put this one on the SOD due to that but finally decided to resume the build. After much trimming of parts and test fitting I finally was able to get everything together. It's apparent to me Revell intended this one to be built with the cowling open. 🙃 -

I'm glad you like it Peter, thanks. I think it turned out just fine. I just bought a FW-190F-8 on ebay and plan for that to be my next build. I hope it delivers by the end of this week but we will see. This is my intended subject. -

In my very humble opinion I think they should print THAT in large black print and not the national insignia notice. -

A word to the unwary. When I bought the Hussar decals for this build I wanted them for the a/c with the checker board rudder and cowling. When they were delivered there were no checker board decals included. I contacted the seller and his smart ass reply was that was noted in the decal sheet description on his ebay site. No offer for a refund or any helpful advice. I never saw that section of his sale post (2nd page). If I had I wouldn't have bought the decals. Here is his site. https://www.ebay.com/usr/hussarhobby -

Calling this one done. The only after market items are the FineMolds belts. Painted with Mr. Color, Testor's, and White Ensign. Decals are from my decal stash. I hope you like it.

Nearly done!

I hope it turns out looking good. Fingers crossed. 🙂

I intend to go full time on it now so should have it completed in a few days.

I hate to say it but it doesn't look like my photo shopped decals for the checker boards is going to work out. The white decal paper I printed them out on is extremely flimsy and wrinkles up at the slightest touch. I've tried a couple of approaches and it's still unsatisfactory (and that is on the easy part on the rudder). I hate to think what it would be like trying to get them on the cowling! If they weren't so flimsy then maybe it would work. I've considered going on and using the black & white set which would probably do okay but it's just not the way I want it to be. I'm setting the model aside for now but, from time to time, I'll re-visit the decal problem. Who knows, I might stumble on a workable solution some time. -

I neglected to paint the cowl flaps white so I'll have to fix that today. This is the a/c I intend to finish it as. 🙂 -
Question: When you do thin MRP what do you thin it with? Their "thinner" doesn't want to work and clabbers the paint.
-
LOL Peter. Since it was a "side build" I didn't post a WIP. I'll post some photos later today.

Close! LOL

I like lacquers okay but enamel is my #1. I really like Tamiya's acrylics and can only imagine how good their Luftwaffe and US WW II colors would be. I do a little mixing but prefer not to if I can find the color(s) I'm wanting in someone's line of paints. I'm not a big fan of Mr. Color but I still use it from time to time. The RLM 76 on the '190 I'm building is Mr. Color.

As a "side job" while working on the Corsair I've been working on this Revell '190A. Something to stay busy with, etc. As you can see it's coming along well.

I figured it would be a good idea to paint the nose and rudder areas where the checks will go a gloss white. This should provide a good "base" for the photo shopped checks. Fingers crossed. -
I figured as much. They are missing the boat!
