Also do I need any extras to pick up shortcomings of this kit, if any?

Gentleman I picked up Hasegawa's F-104 C, Nice kit , however decals are old, yellowish and most likely cracked up. I am not much of a jet guy and have no idea what is presently available in terms of decals. What are my options? I really like the metal looks of classic sixties fighters.Like these ones below.
