  1. That's pretty sweet Steve, I wonder how suitable is the engraver for cutting plastic.
  2. Wow Ryan, some incredible work. Here is the situation on my dest tonight...
  3. Looking amazing Carl, I guess Harvey is ripping his hair out for selling his 110
  4. Back then as a kid I was fascinated by the idea of watching large group of ally planes flying over your head and enjoying shock waves as they come, now it's a terrifying thought . He also told me how he traded a pack of cigarettes with German soldiers for a military shovel. And once as I was building a kit of Aero C3A, he noted that they were bombing the ice on the jammed Danube river. Apparently crews were dropping trophy ammunition from the side door by hand. Non of my friends believed that story. However , years after my father died I read an article describing this exact event. There was so much more, enough material for a book. I wish he would live just a little longer at least to see the downfall of those red commie pigs.
  5. Interesting article about the effects of pollution in the area. http://www.remtechexpo.com/images/2018/presentazioni/JANTAKOVA_REMTECH_21_9.pdf
  6. June 16, 1944, the US Air Force bombed 80 percent of the Apollo refinery in Bratislava, claiming the lives of 176 locals. Apollo was a joint-stock company, which in 1896 launched the operation of the Apollo refinery, popularly called Apolka, where mineral oils were refined and petrol, kerosene, paraffin, candles, Vaseline, tar and even artificial ice were produced. During the Second World War, Slovakia’s official ally, Nazi Germany, controlled the production, and the refining of diesel fuel and oil was modernised to produce fuels for the German army. The refinery on the Danube’s left bank was attacked by US bombers in several waves on June 16. Numerous employees of the Apollo facility died, as air raid shelters failed to protect them from the burning oil. The city’s inhabitants were also among the fatalities, as bombs targeted residential areas of Bratislava. And here is the interesting part. My Dad once told me a story, where he vividly describes like he climbed on the roof of his house so they can together with his friend watch waves of US bomber attacking Apollo. He was talking about tight formations of B-17s ( in fact B-24s) and fighters as they were uninterrupted flying by. Then he added that his dad beat him up really bad, because it was dangerous and he supposed to be in the shelter. For past 35 years I was thinking how unfair was my grandfather ( whom I never met )towards my Dad, , until I find this picture. The arrow shows the house where is my father with his buddy enjoying the show. I guess grandpa was right
  7. this one wasn't so lucky, but still open throttle impact into a mountain and four people survived said something about rigidity of the airframe. It is worth to mention remarkable work of the rescue crews, considering the freezing January weather in the remote mountain pass. On the leg from Bratislava to Košice, the crew encountered poor weather conditions and was contacted by ATC and diverted to Poprad. Few minutes before its ETA in Poprad, while cruising in bad weather conditions at an altitude of 1,300 meters, the aircraft hit trees and crashed in a snow covered and wooded area located in the Tatra Mountain Range. Four passengers were injured and rescued while all 22 other occupants were killed. Causes: It was determined that the crew started the descent to Poprad prematurely following a wrong altimeter setting, causing the aircraft to hit obstacles and to crash. Poor visibility caused by snow falls and heavy winds blowing up to 100 km/h were considered as contributing factors.
  8. On final approach to Košice Airport, C-47A-45-DL # 29600 crash landed in a field and came to rest on a railway embankment. All 23 occupants were uninjured while the aircraft was damaged beyond repair.
  9. That exhaust looks delicious ! Cheers Martin
  10. Hopefully they will share the release, consequently make it available from different sources.
  11. There is something very special about floatplanes, as I am getting older I am finding myself falling in love with props and floats.
  12. I hate to say it, but it seems like a given status quo in terms of the standard and molding quality of ZM resin . Time to be creative.
  13. Nice! Good news indeed Hubert.
  14. my pleasure
  15. It is surprising that ZM didn't release this set in plastic.
  16. It might help to put it into hot water , resin ha the ability to "remember" the original shape and reshape itself like that.
  17. Looking really good Ernie. Tom Cruise's worst nightmare .
  18. great idea with that backing Carl.
  19. Sweet! I believe this is the first double seater ever finished on-line. Congrats Ernie
  20. We are planning a road trip to the coast in the early summer, and Nelson is half way, so it is given that we stop by for a quick lunch/coffee :). Interesting that you mentioned music, I was trying to figure out what I like to listen to on the road. But in Mustang I ended up turning the radio off and practising downshift with a blip on gas, being all proud of myself. I know this all sounds super-silly, probably another demonstration of my mid-life crisis LOL
  21. I am actually very defensive driver, especially in the Mustang. Young people love to zoom on the car, cut me off and even race me. Needless to say that I am enjoying speed limits to the core of the meaning. For instance if there if a negative corner on the highway on-ramp with 80 km/h limit I am driving 80km/h. Working out my late apex approach and squaring off the take out line.
  22. Welcome back Marine !
  23. They were installed by the first owner , an older gentlemen who did tons of work, but had to trade the car in for a truck due the health reasons. There was 4000km on odometer when I bought it. The car smelled like new. I am actually very lucky, the car has no issues whatsoever . Not counting the speed bumps and everlasting police presence
