  1. This may prompt me to finally give them a try.
  2. That's awesome news Hubert! I think you will greatly enjoy contemplating then executing the mods and abnormal paint scheme to bring a racer to life. The 3rd civilian project I'm starting puts my racers to shame on how much plastic cutting and scratch building it'll require but, I have mojo like I haven't in over a year. Building the "one off" type aircraft really is a blast and adds some life to the display case. Side note: My Christmas raffle donation this year is of course racer inspired!
  3. Engine is basically together now. Ignore the black firewall, it'll be white soon enough. And a gratuitous "concept" shot.
  4. You don't see many Hurricanes in any scale, so it'll be nice to see one built.
  5. I don't believe you can add those and still have the engine fit in the model. The exhaust housing and framing takes up that space.
  6. Yes sir, I'm in the deep end now with the racing wingtips.
  7. Well, no going back now....
  8. Work is officially underway. Got most of the engine red on and started working on practicing my foil work. Oh boy is she gonna be shiny!
  9. It looks like what I'll really need help with is the big 2 on the nose and the word Conair on the fuselage. I can source the tail code letters elsewhere I believe. Thus far everyone has declined or been unable. I'm open to any suggestions.
  10. Do you have to provide the artwork or can they draw it up based on photos?
  11. No, they dont have Conair. I can get away with masks for everything but a little logo on the tail, which I can probably omit based on some reference pictures.
  12. Gents, I'll be starting a fire bomber build shortly and it'll be needing some custom decal work. Not much, a few company logos and some lettering. Where can I get these drawn and printed at?
  13. Very well said Mark. The Tamiya comment is exactly how I feel decisions are made at times.
  14. Best aircraft was a 1/48 Tamiya p-47 that was good but nothing about it seemed to stand out. What I did notice was another model club was there from out of state and they were heavily involved in judging. And they seemed to win quite a few best ofs......
  15. Thank you Ernie for your kind words. I think I feel the way you did at times with the Felixstowe. I'm happy with it and that's what matters. It has lit a fire in me to do and be better and push the limits on what I'm doing with my builds next.
  16. I wasnt gonna say it....
  17. We missed you Martin!
  18. This was my understanding of the "unwritten rules" as well.
  19. He absolutely can, I've looked into that before and as long as you haven't won specifically at nationals your good. This bird had a crowd around it all day and rightfully so. It is stunningly beautiful in person.
  20. I wanted to brag on our boy Ernie. He cleaned up today at the IPMS Ft Worth Scale Model show:
  21. Pretty close. There's some differences with accessories colors but the red and bnf covers are spot on.
  22. The most important part of the build has arrived! I also went ahead and ordered HGW seatbelts. I had extra Archer rivets but those apparently got accidentally tossed in my great spares box clean out last week. I'm so mad about that!! I'll work on the engine starting this evening. RB carried a pretty neat looking red engine with polished aluminum covers. I'll close up half the nose and leave half open to show off the unique engine colors.
