That looks great Gaz! Interesting Idea with the Main-Gear Door fixing.
Keep on with the brilliant work.

One Question: Seems, that the small inner L/G-Doors were closed after it was extended? Didn’t know about that til now!

Thank you, Kstadt.  This photo is my inspiration at the moment:

Unfortunately, those small doors are a bone of contention right now.  On the A-1, they should be open when the gear are down.  On the rest of the versions, they should be closed as you see on the build.  So, I'm left with the option of doing an A-2 or an A-3.... or cutting the closed doors off.  None of which I really want to do.  I may just leave them the way they are, build it as an A-1...  and play dumb if anyone calls me out.

  2. Well....  after many hours of surface work, I'm ready to proceed.

Finally covered with a layer of MRP fine gray primer which I then wet sanded with 6,000 grit.

To align everything up top, things down below were lined up less perfectly and you can see how some of the lines aren't perfectly straight.  But the joints are smooth....  well...relatively.  With a kit like this, you hafta take your wins when they come.

This is some of my best rescribing work to date.  But it still ain't factory beautiful.

The main seam along the wingroot has been left filled for now.  I just cannot get my fingers into place to scribe neatly no matter what kind of straight-edge I employ.

I've done OK with the horizontal stabilizers and elevators.  I'm still debating how to place a tail-light.

I masked the canopy parts this morning and added a back-plate to the rear of the windscreens.  I also reduced the locating parts on the wonderfully modifiable Synthetic Ordinance Works landing gear legs.

So, this will be an entire new thing for me.  I am going to try to attach the landing gear covers through the same bolt holes as used on the real machine.  Except I'll be using copper wire instead of bolts.  The ABS plastic of the LG cuts and drills beautifully.  I've used black CA to join all of the parts as well as masking the stainless steel oleos.

    Happy Modelling!

@GazzaS, I just ordered it so depending on what Canada Post does with it it should be here at some point soon.

I don't think it has zimmerit on it. My understanding is it falls between the Tamiya and Dragon kits in terms of complexity and details.

I have done Zimmerit on a couple Tigers and a Brummbar.  But they use a different pattern than the Stug or Panther...  I may have to break down and get ATAK for those kinds of models.

Really like your shake 'n bake approach, with all these nuts, Friuls and PE. What is left out is the Zimmerit. Do you have any plans for that?
I have a started Dragon Stug IV in my stash, which will be in winter finish too, along with metal tracks, Attack Zim and some great figures, but this has to wait a little before compleation. Meanwhile I take yours as a canvas.

    Cheers Rob

Thank you, Rob!  I'm modelling and early StuG.  Not a specific machine mind you.  But more a conglomeration of pre-zimmerit machines...  without Schurzen.  I have some great photos to work with, but usually only one shot of any given machine.

  5. Hello, friends!

I've taken a diversion from two rather intense builds for something easier.  However...  there is something I've always wanted to do...  build an AFV with some fenders ripped off.  So, I even took a diversion from shake and bake to do this:

    LakJqR.jpg

Along the side of the StuG are two pieces of angle-iron bolted to the hull and bolted together.  So, with no fender, I had to create some detail.  Fortunately I have a sheet of Meng boltheads and nuts.

It's funny...  once you start doing research....  when you realize just how much detail is left-off by model companies.   Where the brackets holding the fender are ripped off, I'll install some sheared bolts and surround the area previously hidden by the bracket with a facsimile of red-oxide primer.

For tracks I have some Friul winterketten.  So...  since I can't seem to find photos of them being used during fair weather, I'll have to do some winter camo, too.

Let us know how well it works Gaz. Always nice to have another option.

    Carl

well....  it's holding on all of these Meng bolt heads nicely:

It has a nice, very fine tipped long bristle brush, too.  I read somewhere else, someone said it smelled like TET.

Never used TeT...  but I remember the smell from my childhood...  I just can't remember where.

Not sure how you guys are doing out there, I’ve got a couple of months work on three projects which is a godsend.......the bad news is there is very little in work after they have finished.........2 months salary is good........hope everyone and their loved ones are coping........

Glad you have something for now, Phil.  Hopefully afterwards, something new will appear.
