MARU 5137 Posted October 12, 2023 Posted October 12, 2023 Ā MY friend sent ME this YouTube video to have a peek at it. STUNNINGĀ restorationĀ and beautiful to see. Ā Ā Yesterday afternoon, a very special aircraft flew for the first time after a 34 year restoration. Hawker Tempest Mk.II MW763, registered as G-TEMT and painted as PR533 of 33 Squadron took to the skies at Sywell Aerodrome in Northamptonshire. Experienced warbird pilot Pete Kynsey was at the controls for this historic flight and took her straight to her new home at IWM Duxford. Huge congratulations to everyone involved, especially those at Air Leasing at Sywell who have put so much effort and time into this unique aircraft to get her back in the sky. This is the Mark II variant of the Hawker Tempest, the only Mark to be fitted with a Bristol Centaurus engine. Six marks were designed, each with a different engine including the Napier Sabre (as used on the Hawker Typhoon), Rolls-Royce Griffon and the Centaurus. The Mk.II entered service too late to see action in World War II. Ā 4 3

MARU 5137 Posted October 14, 2023 Author Posted October 14, 2023 Hello Panzerwomble,Ā So being a "seasoned " traveller in India on MY own or in company....Ā From Bombay to PuneĀ OldĀ Highway one comes across lots of differentĀ & wondrous things to see....Abandoned! A trip to India a few years back.First saw it inĀ when it wax still New looking. Around 2005-2006. The last photo shows how it was... then the elements took control ! Ā Ā Ā Ā One goes home to see family and friends and thenĀ one goes Travelling... Ā The Air Sahara's Boeing 737 (Flight S2-226 ), which ran off the Mumbai airport runway on October 9, 2005, now finds itself at Nishiland Water Park in KhopoliĀ Nishiland Water Park. Photo from Google Earth shows the lone Boeing 737... I cannot get the link to work. Ā Ā 1

PanzerWomble Posted October 14, 2023 Posted October 14, 2023 Fascinating , seems like a bad luck aircraft if the waterpark that bought it went bust Ā ,Ā Ā Do you remember the old Lightning at the side of A1 for many years ? Ā Ā Ā 1 1
MARU 5137 Posted October 15, 2023 Author Posted October 15, 2023 Panzerwomble/Guy, Did you not buildĀ AHawker TempestĀ over on LSP a while back....Ā

It's on the RFI section on this forum ...leaving me with the old Revell Typhoon to make one day.....shortly to be on it's way to PENN USA ... 1
MARU 5137 Posted October 16, 2023 Author Posted October 16, 2023 Ah I see. Just going to RFI on here...Ā You have done a fantastic job onĀ it. She looks AMAZING.Ā 1

tanzanadori Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 I can't imagine what it must've been like to witness that first flight at Sywell Aerodrome. The sound of that Bristol Centaurus engine must have been unreal. Huge props to Pete Kynsey and everyone at Air Leasing ā itās a labor of love, for sure. Itās wild how these aircraft didnāt see action in WWII, but now they get a second chance to shine. I actually saw something similar on one of my business class trips, where I had time to watch a documentary on WWII planes check out https://travelbusinessclass.com/ for the best deals if you're ever flying. I just had a friend send me this video too. 2
Spitfire Posted October 8, 2024 Posted October 8, 2024 This reminds me of seeing this abandoned C47 on the roadside, we were on the way to Bangkok in 1997 and this is what we saw in the middle of nowhere. Cheers Dennis Ā Ā 2
MARU 5137 Posted October 8, 2024 Author Posted October 8, 2024 Dennis , SUPER duperĀ photographs. Thank you. 1

No problem Maru, as to the Tempest I think it was the same aircraft that featured in a Warplane Workshop that I watched earlier on in the year, fascinating stuff. Cheers Dennis
