  1. getting bored with 1/32 aircraft, I fancy something different but have no idea about either the subject or the kit manufacturers so any recommendations would be very helpful. thanks neil
  2. yep, same for me - double figures built on the shelf, 3 more unbuilt in the stash and will buy the early Mk1 from Kotare this year. I was never a spitfire person so have no idea where this came from. I've built 4 Bf 109's and 2 mig 21's. Every other aircraft build I own is a single build. I can only think it's the variation in schemes that attracts me (or the online purchasing after a few red wines !).
  3. I got my first motorbike in 1977 and still have 2 in the garage. For many years it was my only mode of transport in sun, snow and rain and I regularly commuted into London for work once I'd moved out to the suburbs. Always used to make me laugh seeing all of the Barry Sheen/Carl Fogerty/Mick Doohan/Valentino Rossi sunny Sunday men wobbling around leather clad on their motoGP/Superbike liveried sports bikes. As I reached my 6th decade I decide I no longer bounced well or recovered quickly enough to warrant the risk of riding so sold most of my bikes and haven't missed it. I now have more money to spend on plastic, paint and glue though.
  4. took me a while but I did it, got there in the end 😁 I'm hoping I will be there for January 2032. I got my driving Licence in 1978 and it ran out on 2032 - I thought that was an impossibly long time away, beyond my ability to contemplate back in 1978. Tick-tock, tick-tock, It now feels like it's just around the corner. I wont be around for January 2048 I'm sure and all traces of me will be gone by January 2072 ! So I should make sure I enjoy this Airfix Large Aircraft month.
  5. nice build and the kit looks great. Just seen the price of the resin/plastic Infinity 1/32 Kate on hannants - way too much money for me so I think this will be my first 1/35 aircraft. I wonder how much the size difference will be noticeable alongside my 1/32 aircraft. I can't see a scale different with my 1/35 helicopters mixed with 1/32 aircraft.
  6. that would be a bit like a tamiya or ZM model for me, not enough skill and, to be honest, at my age interest. Plus I don't think I would be able to smuggle her past the wife - it's not the same as slipping a new airbrush into your inside pocket as you glide quietly into the hobby room unnoticed !
  7. another one I forgot about that needs adding to my list !
  8. I forgot the Viking and A-20 J/K - both will be on my to buy list as well however given the likely price of both they may stay on the want list.
  9. I'll have a look as well, I tend to keep some spare plastic and throw other bits in a random fashion. Will check in my spares box tonight
  10. I posted a similar topic for 2023 last year and looking back at my list back then (see below) I have to say I never purchased anything on my list, partly due to lack of funds, partly due to reading build logs after the kit was released and partly because some were not released in 23 ! These were all 1/32 fixed wing, 1/35 helicopters. As per last year, would be interesting to see your lists (and know if you achieved them !) 1. 2023 Ideal buys - HS123, C202, F-35B, Val, Ka-29, British Apache, Havoc, ACH-47A, revell meteor, CH54. 2. 2023 what my pocket money will allow - HS123, C202, Val, Apache. So my 2024 list is now as follows, it will be interesting to see if this year I achieve anything from that list ! My wants list for non-newly released kits obviously expanded by all those on my 2023 list that were released! 1. 2024 Ideal buys - HS123, ACH-47A, revell meteor, Ohka, infinity Kate. 2. 2024 What my pocket money will allow - HS123, Ohka, Kate neil
  11. stop posting porn pictures, it's bad for my blood pressure !!!πŸ€ͺ
  12. I only bought one kit that was newly released in 2023 so that gets my vote - Hobby2000 Me110, as per Dennis @Spitfire, that desert scheme is calling out to be painted ! As I didn't have much to compare I added a few extra categories for myself - sorry . Best kit purchased by me in 2023 was a very second hand and cheap Williams Brother P-35. My kind of kit, not much detail, really quick build and unusual subject, thoroughly enjoyed building it. Best kit build by me was Kittyhawk's Kingfisher - one of my best builds (interestingly most of Kittyhawks 1/32 kits that I've built would fit into my better build category). Worst purchase by me - 1/32 Tamiya Mosquito - I got bored looking through the box, way too much plastic and engineering most of which will be unseen once built (eg the engines). I know I wont build it, life is too short ! Finally, most anticipated kit for 2024 - ICM's 1/32 Hs123. Really sorry to add extra info, I feel guilty now but it's typed so submit reply button is to easy to click on !
  13. that's a real shame John, I had no issues with my kit, you've been unlucky I think. I built mine as a Fennec and I consider it to be my best ever build in terms of how the finished kit looks. That warped plastic looks really bad however if you get the urge to bring it back down do so, it's a great looking plane once complete.
  14. I still look out for it now even though I know it's no longer there ! I now play "spot the spot where the lightning was" whenever I use the A1
  15. It is without doubt the best looking ship ever built to my eyes, can't wait to see you progress.
  16. so 4 months on from my initial list, quoted above, all has changed. I will still buy the HS123 once released however I'm not feeling that I need any of the other kits listed at the moment. I need to reduce my stash and I'm staying focused on that. However that 1/16 M10 mentioned above is making me twitchy ! My collection of 1/16 and AFV can be counted on less than one hand full of fingers but I've always had a thing for that tank and at 1/16 scale it's big enough for my eyes and fingers to cope ! So that's my new list.
  17. thanks Rob, you've confirmed what I initially thought. It's a 109 G10 I'm building from an AIMs sheet (32D011) an interesting scheme as the underwings are a mix of bare metal and light blue which is what made me go for it (https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/AIMS32D015?result-token=eFgs6). It's definitely showing as green on the instructions and I've now found both green and brown versions of RLM 81 so I'm really confuggled which is not uncommon these days. I like the look of the green so will just try to match that ignoring the RLM colour. This luftwaffe stuff is way more complex than I expected as everything seems to have been random with big variation by regions and factories once resources and materials started to really become unavailable during the last three years of war. I'm also finding the 109 interesting as again there appears to be so much variation in configuration even in the same sub type. thanks neil
  18. I'm starting to get more interested in building WW2 german kits for some reason, this was never really a previous interest over the past 50 years so I'm late to this particular party. I can already see there's lots of differing views about colours and I'm trying to sort out one of those now without much success which made me think of adding this to the research zone. I think, if you are in agreement, this should cover all WW2 Luftwaffe colours however my specific issue relates to RLM 81, which seems to have several different brown and green interpretations. I'm building an aircraft with aftermarket decals and the aircraft is a very dark and deep green all over quoted as RLM81. I happen to have RLM 81 in my paint collection but it's a deep brown colour rather than green. Checking online there does appear to be variation in the paints offered. Any advice or help on RLM 81 would be appreciated, am I missing something or is there no agreement on what colour RLM 81 should be ?? If this is the wrong place for this question mods please feel free to move it where you think it should be. Many thanks neil
  19. well done and well deserved. Thoroughly enjoyed taking part in my first ever group build, looking forward to the next one ! neil
  20. thanks all, comments much appreciated. @Landlubber Mike, with regards to the paint, after undercoating in gloss black, I tried several different AV and AK silver paints and didn't like the results on any of them. It was clearly my issue as I've used these before and had some great results but this time I just couldn't get them to settle evenly. In the end I used an old rattle can of Tamiya gloss aluminium and picked out the painted canvas areas with a light cover of AV dark aluminium and then matt varnished those areas. I then buffed the lot of it with paper towel and weathered using revell weathering pigments. I'm really pleased I didn't go down a paint finish scheme, I think the bare metal finish complements the looks of the actual aircraft. The RAAF used a single all over yellowy orange painted aircraft in the 50's for Antarctic exploration which was really tempting but I always find yellows hard work to get good results to avoided it. thanks neil
  21. you have amazing skills - this looks so realistic neil
  22. that's good to know, this kit is on my "reduce the stash and build it" list for 2023
  23. she's finished. Posted in ready for inspection.
  24. calling this one done. As per most of my builds I made a few errors, some I might correct (like the bent gun sight I just noticed in the photos) and some I will have to live with and learn from (like over filing and flatting the top of the float) but overall another great kit by Kittyhawk of an unusual subject.
