Magic Factory F4U-2 build 1/48

Recommended Posts

This is my next build. I'm very impressed with the kit(s) (a -2 NF and a -1A are in the box) and I will begin work on the -2 this morning. They have supplied some really good marking schemes and this one caught my eye immediately.  Ought to make a very attractive model. :)

Cool John and yes that scheme would catch my eye also.I will poke in and observe the progress just been busy elsewhere of late.;)

I figure that scheme will get a lot of attention since it's so interesting Kevin. This AM I started spraying the two interior colors (Salmon Pink and Dull Dark Green) and plan to spray the landing gear and associated areas Tamiya Flat White this afternoon. When all that is accomplished I can begin assembly. Stay tuned.....:)

Excellent choice John. I’ve been eyeballing this kit for a while. Will follow closely.
Cheers

obligatory question:” are we there yet?” :)

I was undecided on buying it but went on and ordered it and the engine from Scale Hobbyist. Not too stiff a price compared to some other vendors. I now have the interior parts painted and will get to the gear and wheel well parts later today. Salmon Pink for the rear fuselage/tail wheel area, Dull Dark Green for the areas in the cockpit that needed it, and flat black on various odds and ends. I'll paint the wheel wells and gear Tamiya Flat White later today. :)

Nice scheme there John.

I've heard the kit is like a smaller version of the Tamiya kit.

It certainly is close Carl. Many of the parts look like Tamiya parts reduced in size.

Going to be an awesome build for us to follow and for you to enjoy. Perfect choice of scheme as well.

I bought the kit as soon as it was out and for whatever reason, other builds keep jumping in front but that is going to change, as I'm sure your build thread will get mine over to the bench sooner then later. I would have to agree with Carl that the kit share more then a few similarities with Tamiya's 32nd scale offering and way more detailed then their 48th scale kits.

I agree Peter. It ought to be a good looking model when done.:)

Doing some on-line "research" on this particular a/c I found this photo. The bars on the national insignia don't have the blue edges which means the a/c originally had just the star with blue back ground. The white "bars" apparently were added at a later date with no blue edges. Another possibility is the insignia had red surround which likely wouldn't show up very well in this photo. The kit doesn't supply the correct insignia so I will check my decal stash and see if I have the needed items.

Some mighty nice research on the Corsair. Colors and markings are always a bit suspect and nice to know you have it solved and well under control.

Thanks Peter. I'm not 100% certain there was no red surround but I doubt seriously it had 'em. At any rate, I'm going with just white "bars" and no surround. 🤞

So the plan is to go with some decals from the stash or just use the kit's stats & bars?

National insignia will be decals from my stash. No blue outline on the "bars".

When I test fit the fuselage halves with the cockpit in place I was a bit "concerned" with the fit. It looks like some very large gaps and I thought WTF! That can't be right!!!!

LOL Then I taped up some of the other parts to see what was what and found everything fit okay. This kit just fits different from what I've been used to with Tamiya kits. Had me "concerned" at first! LOL :)

I hate to say it guys but this SOB has gotten the best of me. Trying to glue the fuselage halves together with all the innards in place just would not work no matter how much "adjusting" I did. I adjusted so much I broke the SOB (specifically the tail wheel assembly). :wallbash:I'm going to give it a rest for now and will come back to it later.

Holy smokes what a bummer. Good idea of taken a break from the kit and working on something else. My money is riding on you that when you pick up the Corsair again, you'll have it figured out - has to be a piece of cake compared to the warped T-28 you conquered and built.

When I started this model I thought it would be a enjoyable build. Maybe after I get the fuselage halves and innards together it will be more enjoyable. :) My shaky hands and less than optimum eyesight doesn't help!

Got ya.

Same here as we're the same age and we both have the same frustrating and always getting worse modeling old age issues. :(

Yes indeed. And what a bummer! Just something we have to deal with.
