Tamiya 1/32 F4U-1D/FG-1D Corsair

Recommended Posts

It's been a good while since I did a Corsair model so now is the time to remedy that. I plan to do one or the other of these two subjects. I've been busy on some of the preliminary stuff (instrument panel, etc) and will post a photo soon.

I think Tamiya San should give you some free shares of his company for your outstanding contribution to their sales of Corsair kits in the last 10 years, John ;)

You  should just buy them by the case. That has to worth some sort of discount.

The checkerboard Corsair looks cool to me.

By the case would be nice for sure! LOL

I'm leaning toward the checkered nose and tail one. Ought to look good!🙂

Wow,

So having built so many of these Corsair kits, I bet you could do this in your sleep. Or at least with your eyes closed.

I'd be afraid I'd cut myself with my exacto!!! LOL  I still follow the instructions and if I didn't I'd be sure to foul up somewhere.

Current status. My research tells me that, starting in 1945 or so, the interiors of the Corsairs were beginning to be a mix of the older Dull Dk. Green and yellow/green zinc chromate with black side consoles. Since this one is a Okinawa bird I feel that will suit the model just fine. 🙂

Mighty nice progress. Glad you're still doing research on one of your favorite modeling subjects and the change of the interior colors adds to the accuracy and fun of the build. Hard to believe in just five short years, the jet age will be underway and such iconic airplanes as the Corsair will be slowly withdrawn from front line duty.

It's coming along well Peter. You can't beat Tamiya for excellent fit and detail. That's one reason I like their 1/32 birds so much. The P-51 and Corsair are available from other manufacturers but still, I think, Tamiya is the best. It would be great if Hasegawa (since Tamiya isn't issuing any more 1/32's) would issue some P-51B/C's and F4U-4's in 1/32 to go along with their P-40's.  Then we'd need for them to re-issue the P-40N, K and M kits. Now THAT would be outstanding but I doubt it'll ever happen. We can hope though! 🙂

  • JohnB changed the title to Tamiya 1/32 F4U-1D/FG-1D Corsair

Painted and a few decals applied. Now I'm waiting for the post man to deliver my mail today as the Hussar decal sheet is slated to deliver today. If it DOES show up today then I can start on the rest of the markings. I expect to have it finished by tomorrow PM IF the decals arrive today. 🙂

The decals arrived but there's a BIG problem. No white checker board markings were included! I sent the seller a inquiry hoping it was just a oversight but I have a bad feeling about it. Now I'll have to put the model aside until that is resolved. If they don't provide the markings they should say so when listing the sheet for sale. In the mean time I'll start looking for alternate markings. ALWAYS SOMETHING!

I did some checking at the Hussar web site and evidently there are no checker board markings included in the sheet. I'm going to look around to see if someone else has a sheet that has the needed markings.

No luck in 1/32.

Looking mighty good and that's nuts about the decals. The beauty of the decal markings is the checkerboard. How can they offer the decals without the highlight of the markings?  DO they offer any suggestions or just assume the builder will make his own?
