Winnie Posted Friday at 03:33 PM Posted Friday at 03:33 PM Just thought I'd keep the group in the loop of what's going on in my life! Not the most active member, but I do stick bits of plastic together occasionally. Got diagnosed with Colon cancer in October, going for surgery on the 17th of November, then after initial recovery I hope I'll have some time to spend at the bench! Should be off work minimum for a month, then we'll see what chemo will do. It's a bummer, because I'll have to stop flying until cleared again, which may take a year, and I was JUST granted Pilot Examiner status... oh well. My public service message is this: If you can get a colonoscopy, get one! Apparently my cancer started as a polyp that grew into a cancer over several years, although not extremely severe, still bad enough. Colonoscopies can detect and remove the polyps before they turn cancerous. Even if they are a bit undignified... You also get some wicked drugs! Cheers Harald 1 2

belugawhaleman Posted Friday at 05:02 PM Posted Friday at 05:02 PM Hoping the best for your recovery, and yes, it's best all who can should get themselves checked. 3
biggtim Posted Saturday at 06:53 PM Posted Saturday at 06:53 PM Bummer, Winnie! My dad had colon cancer, too. He had surgery to remove the affected chunk and never had to go on chemo, thankfully, and made a full recovery. Very high rate of success, so I have high hopes for you!! Due to my dad, I started the "scopes" much earlier than usually recommended, and all clear so far! Tim 2
