RalphSarc Posted June 10, 2014 Author Posted June 10, 2014 That will be a very cool Bird! Looking fortwarf when its painted!! It. will be Black? Yes it will be black with a shading of dark gray and a panel wash of burnt umber! Should look pretty good. I'm sure not using any oils :-( Can your beautiful kit be salvaged??
RalphSarc Posted June 10, 2014 Author Posted June 10, 2014 Thought I'd try my hand at weighted tires. I started with the tail wheel a few weeks ago with good success so applied the same application to the main gear tires. Hopeful it will add interests and realism. Can't stand round tires after seeing this done, lol!!! 3
colt6 Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Agree with you! Ballon tires are an absolutely no go!!!!!! ( Hmmmmm, my 109 G-6 have such!!!! ) 1
RalphSarc Posted June 10, 2014 Author Posted June 10, 2014 I have started the port and starboard engine nacelle last night. While studying pictures of Ju88C-6 night-fighters engine nacelles for accuracy I noticed that they had shields or flash guards over the engine exhaust manifolds. I hoped on ebay only to find 1/48 scale aftermarket flash guards! So........ I decided to boldly go where no model builder in Woodstock GA has gone before and make my own!!! That's right I'm now fabricating my own parts, lol!! A search around the house reveled that the tubing left over from our refrigerator water/ice filter is the size needed, yay!!! Now if you know of a source for and aftermarket 1/32 scale engine exhaust flash guard please stop me, lol!! 3
RalphSarc Posted June 10, 2014 Author Posted June 10, 2014 Agree with you! Ballon tires are an absolutely no go!!!!!! ( Hmmmmm, my 109 G-6 have such!!!! ) It's such a natural look over balloon tires. I would have never thought of that until seeing in here!!! So from now on its weighted tires for me!
lawman56 Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 You are much braver than I, Ralph! I'd rather buy aftermarket tires. Tried to make my own once. Let's just say the aircraft had a decided list to port!
RalphSarc Posted June 11, 2014 Author Posted June 11, 2014 Weighted tires are finished and I'm happy to report the Ju88 sits straight, lol! 3

kahunaminor Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Hello Ralph, Good work on those tyres! I had a look at Quickboost for Ju 88 exhaust dampeners and they do not appear to have any. They do, however, have a number of sets for the Ju 87 night fighters. Maybe one of these sets could assist? Have a look at: www.quickboost.net and see off anything catches your eye. Although judging by your post, making your own with what you have is well within your skill set! Regards, Kent

I couldn't find any other that 1/48th which really surprised me! Ralph.
RalphSarc Posted June 12, 2014 Author Posted June 12, 2014 From refrigerator ice-maker tubing to Ju88C-1 exhaust flash guard!! One down three to go! After adding rear stack and clamps. Hope it looks to scale once filled, sanded and painted. 4
colt6 Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 now we know the reason, why the german had no ice during the war! 1
RalphSarc Posted June 13, 2014 Author Posted June 13, 2014 now we know the reason, why the german had no ice during the war! Yep that's the reason, lol!! I thought you knew that! :-) 1
RalphSarc Posted June 14, 2014 Author Posted June 14, 2014 Spent a few hours yesterday repairing and re-masking a slight mistake on my parts concerning the Ju88 cockpit canopy. While hand painting the cockpit auxiliary swing arm light that is attached to the rear panel of the forward canopy I accidentally got gray paint on the clear canopy. Due to my ignorance in such things I applied a tiny amount of thinner to a Q-Tip and attempted to cleanup my mistake! Well you know what happened next, lol!! As Arno found with his He162 build using a thinner for his oil weathering, I found that the tiny drop of thinner melted or fogged the canopy! I was horrified :-( Luckily I had just ordered a Revell 1/32 Ju88A-1with plans to do a crash diorama that James and I had discussed, more later, so I was able to rob Peter to pay Paul. Also gave me the chance to panel over the forward facing machine gun hole! Upper interior canopy
RalphSarc Posted June 15, 2014 Author Posted June 15, 2014 Cockpit canopy interior and masking finished and primer on. Getting closer to being finished! Meanwhile James hasn't started his Ju88, lol!! 2
Administrators James H Posted June 15, 2014 Administrators Posted June 15, 2014 Dang! You noticed? I have actually built the resin pit, but mods are needed for this specific machine. I just hope to get my resin conversion as flawless looking as yours!

RalphSarc Posted June 16, 2014 Author Posted June 16, 2014 Spent some time this evening dry fitting the port side engine nacelles and my fabricated engine exhaust flash guards. I think they look pretty close to the pictures I've seen. 3
kahunaminor Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 Well done Ralph, If you keep this pace up, you can probably get two or three builds done! I'll bet you cannot wait to sit back and watch the rest of us fumble our way (speaking for myself) through our builds. Regards, Kent
RalphSarc Posted June 16, 2014 Author Posted June 16, 2014 LOL Kent very true. Being retired gives my all the bench time I want during the week. However I keep myself busy during the week with several endeavors. My wife has breast cancer however her prognosis is extremely good and she continues to improve after three very difficult years. I manage her home care/medications, cook meals, do laundry, clean house, chase after three dogs, run errands, do the grocery shopping etc. Oh and I recently underwent open heart surgery and was treated for cancer with chemo and radiation also, lol!! I'm doing great and have recovered fully! I volunteer at out local hospitals CCU unit on Monday and also visit patients that have recently undergone various types of heart surgeries via a national group called Mended Hearts. Along with that I also help my old employer with recruiting "from home" during the week working as many hours as I want posting job apps and reviewing resumes. Lastly I enjoy tending to my rose, flower and veggie gardens with the help of my evil sidekick Marco the Chihuahua, lol!! As to sitting back watching the rest of you fumble through your builds I have a theory about that! I believe everyone is watching the new guy, "me", with great interest for fear that he may blow them out of the water with his superior builds!! That ought to get them going, lol!! I have really enjoy my time spent on and with LSM. Folks like James, Arno, Guy, Jeroem, Cees, Rick, Erik and others have be instrumental in advancing my skills and making my hobby of modeling much more challenging and rewarding. 4
kahunaminor Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 I didn't mean to pry Ralph and I can see you do a world of good things. I am honoured that you would share what must be a difficult time for you and your wife and I offer safe thoughts for you both. Your surgery must have been a success because you certainly have enough energy for two men! I like your thinking Ralph, keep up the good work! I am nearly finished my 109 so I hope to start my Stuka by the end of the month and try and keep up with you. Regards, Kent
RalphSarc Posted June 17, 2014 Author Posted June 17, 2014 Yes feeling much much much better Kent, lol! We're both looking forward to a prosperous 2014 :-) Look forward to following your Ju87 build and seeing your finished 109. 2
wemattson Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Ralph, Your positive outlook is very uplifting and I hope the best for you and your wife. I have been really enjoying your build and think you're doing a spectacular job. Keep up the good work. Cheers, Wayne 1
