Administrators James H Posted March 8, 2013 Administrators Share Posted March 8, 2013 For my GB entry, and because my time is seriously limited, I thought I'd throw this one into the pot. I've had this for a while, so looking forward to getting it built. I might even do something this weekend, workload prevailing.
Grant
Hmmm.. Going to guess who's working on both at the moment? (well, there's been a bit of sprue cutting and sanding)
Administrators James H Posted March 21, 2013 Author Administrators Share Posted March 21, 2013 Perhaps an update tomorrow? Most parts now cleaned and ready for paint.
Dave J
With the speed that you build things Jim... I thought we be expecting a 1/4 109 built around this!

Administrators James H Posted March 24, 2013 Author Administrators Share Posted March 24, 2013 Whilst I'm waiting for the Pfalz to seal, I thought I'd take a look at this one. All the parts are now removed from the sprues, and bagged into stages, ready for paint and installation. One thing I did notice when test fitting was that one of the instruments had its locating pins in the opposite corners to the holes in the IP base. I must've missed it, nbut I never saw anyone else mention this when they did a build. I extrapolated the positions of the current holes out to the opposite corners in the recess, then drilled out. Et Voila!
Administrators James H Posted March 24, 2013 Author Administrators Share Posted March 24, 2013 These images are a little grainy, but never mind. The panel was sprayed with Gunze RLM66, then lightened and darkened mixes were blasted over areas where bezels would be, and plates are fastened. the whole lot is then over-sprayed with thinned base coat to blend it in.
Grant
Nice Jim. Are you weathering yours? I'm not sure what I'll do with mine - I really want to have them (the 109 IP too) framed to hang on the wall of my office so can't decide; weathered or pristine????? don't know. Administrators James H Posted March 24, 2013 Author Administrators Share Posted March 24, 2013 The shading looks like crap on that image, yet in proper light, it looks real neat. Now painted the black parts on the main panel part too, so tomorrow I'll add the instrument faces

Members Mikester
Oh so you think you're going to get away with just an IP?! Where's the rest of the airplane? I was expecting a 1/4 scale 110 to put this thing in! Very nice work my friend!
Jamme
Great job, Jim. I started this one months ago and started to sand the panel itself flat (due to many "waves" in the plastic. was yours "flat"? Cheers, Jamme
Administrators James H Posted March 29, 2013 Author Administrators Share Posted March 29, 2013 Hi Jamme, Yes, mine was flat, although the Bf 109 panel has a couple of what look like splits in it, but they're moulding marks, and very fine. I only realised when I put paint over, but I wasn't too bothered. Be careful about sanding too much material from the face, as those lenses only just fit in between the panel and bezels....literally.
