AlgiaNick
Started some detail painting in the pit and added control cables coming from the control stick. Also wood painted the floor boards and used masking tape for the rudder pedal straps. This is how the cables were attached (so i need two more on the bottom): Excellent work Jeroen!! Nice chipping on the frame!!!
Administrators JeroenPeters Posted June 19, 2015 Author Administrators Share Posted June 19, 2015 Thnx Nick! My deadline for this kit is Telford. So not a tight one at all. Should be able to finish the paintwork the next week. Especially since I'm off the entire week )))

Administrators JeroenPeters Posted June 23, 2015 Author Administrators Share Posted June 23, 2015 Visited the National military museum today with my dad and took some crappy pics of the Fokker D.21 they have hanging from the ceiling in a low lit room............ Spotted some small details i might adjust, change, add.
Administrators JeroenPeters Posted June 26, 2015 Author Administrators Share Posted June 26, 2015 A fortunate accident. When applying the 'white mice' insignia on the left side of the cowling today i managed to mess up the decal. I forgot to seal the paint layer with Klear and one thing led to an other. I gave it some thought and had a chat with Jim. Decided to strip the cowling completely and start over. This meant I had to find a new 'White mice' decal. I found one Flevo-Decals Fokker D21 set for the old Vac form kit but it was located in a store 110 km to the east. Being nuts and impatient I jumped in my car to get the decals. When I opened the pack at home I noticed it carried White Mice decals for both the left and the right side. I always thought the replica in our national museum was wrong, which featured this as well, so assumed Flevo Decals were wrong too. After doing some research I stumbled upon this: http://www.nederlandseluchtvaart.nl/forums/f13-fokker/fokker-d-21-even-iets-recht-zetten-35826/ It shows the white shoe artwork was definitely present on both sides, so the white mice must have been too. Short story: Glad I: messed up / went to Eindhoven / did some more research. As you can see I already re-sprayed the cowling and this time, sealed it with Klear.

Administrators JeroenPeters Posted June 26, 2015 Author Administrators Share Posted June 26, 2015 thnx Erik, looking at the Flevo Decals, i decided the shoe on there is way too big. In other words. I'll just use the mice. And won't place them on two sides, because that would set me back to square one, since i would need two new smaller shoe decals. One-Oh-Four
Ah! I see what you mean!! This one's shaping up really great! I hope you'll bring it to IPMS the Netherlands' "Euro Scale Modelling" show! Will certainly be a contender in the contest! And no, I'm no Judge there anymore...!
Administrators JeroenPeters Posted June 27, 2015 Author Administrators Share Posted June 27, 2015 I really want to finish this model this weekend... On to the weathering and small bits! Hatch (with scratched opening handle and locks): Gunsight. A challenge in itself: Somehow managed to damage the rudder. Tearing a small piece of orange decal out of the middle. Chose to fix it the original way Used two small square pieces of different shade orange decal to patch it up: Primed the prop AK gloss black (needs some more polishing I discovered). 8 resin pieces make this up: Getting there!

Wingco57
Fantastic, love the rudder repair, what colour will the propellertips be? Cees
Administrators JeroenPeters Posted June 28, 2015 Author Administrators Share Posted June 28, 2015 Hi Cees, Good question! Just now i passed the Crash museum and noticed it had the flags up even though it's only open on saturday. I strolled in and was free to have another look at the D21 wreck. I wanted to check the colors on the props and to see if it had the Hamilton Standard prop decals on it. It doesn't. Also, the back of the prop was black with a rounded shape on the bottom: The tips were red, white and blue as provided by Silver Wings, but I believe the colors on the wreck have faded / discolored: Another thing: The gunsight on the Silver Wings part has a threaded rear base. I checked it out and it seems legit: I did some more research to see if the 214 had an aerial / radio. I have found pics of the 214 with the roundel markings where it has no aerial. But then again: i have found pics of planes with roundels where they didn't have an aerial and pics of the same planes with aerials but carrying the triangle. So I'm inclined to believe a radio was present.
benjaminsummerfield
Nice looking Fu€#er! love the research you've done throughout, this has turned into a mini how to build guide! Have SilverWings seen this thread yet, I'd imagine they'll be pretty chuffed with how their kit is turning out.
