Members Mikester
The Grex was acting a little finicky last night so I broke it all the way down and was amazed by the amount of crap in there, particularly the nozzle. Ultrasonic cleaners have become pretty inexpensive, just wondering if anyone is using one for their airbrush and what kind of results they're getting? Administrators James H Posted December 5, 2015 Administrators Share Posted December 5, 2015 I use one. Warm water with a drop of detergent. Leave for 5 mins and all the shit comes out of it.
sms1915
If you use enamels or similar, putting lacquer thinner in the ultrasonic pan works very well to clean the airbrush
One-Oh-Four
Only used it with acrylics in the airbrush. If the airbrush is TOO clogged with Tamiya/Gunze, first let it soak in a water/ammonia mix. Then ultrasonic it.
MikeMaben
Sure, they clean places you can't even see.
happy1
DON'T put your brush in any kind of mixture with ammonia it will take the chrome plating right off of the brush, I use a mixture of hot water and a degreasser 80% degreasser 20% water works great. I got my Ultra sonic cleaner off of E-bay for about $35.00 USD it's got a built it heater which is nice. Worth more then price I paid for it. Gunner Mike
Howdy Mikey, We miss you bro, when are you going to be out here next? Here’s my take on the sonic cleaner,,, I bought mine from Harbor Freight for about $25. I clean my Grex airbrushes, glasses, sunglasses, Jewelry and my dental bridge. Use Hot Hot water and a Polident tablet. I generally run it for 20 minutes. Be cool

theseeker
Which ultrasonic cleaner are you folks using?
Fw1421
I've been using an ultrasonic cleaner for my air brush since the mid 70's. I use lacquer thinner for enamels in a small pyrex flask I bought at the hobby store in the chemical set selection. Just put water in the cleaner and sit the flask in the water, the cavitation transfers into the flask with no problem. For aqueous based paints I just use water with a bit of dish washing soap, gets all the gunk out in a snap. For tiny parts I use a mesh screen in the shape of a bowl so I don't have to go grabbing around for them in the muck at the bottom.
krow113
I would be careful of leaving the parts in the UC for too long. I pitted the soldering on some items I left in too long. My understanding is that after the initial immersion and material removal , take the items out as they aint getting any cleaner.
