Uncarina Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 I read "The Big Show" twice, and always wanted to share my appreciation for Pierre Clostermann's book and exploits by building a 1/32 Tempest. When the PCH kit came out I almost bought it, but kept getting impressive updates from Special Hobby. I'm glad I waited! Tamiya paints, Maketar Masks, and not much else. The kit is very worth it. Just two things I noted: attach the forward fuselage halves to their respective rear counterparts first, to get a good fit. Also, the Tempest had a distinctive anhedral/dihedral when seen from the front, but I found the fit of the fuselage to the upper wings forced them outward and down, exaggerating this effect. To compensate I sanded back the fuselage where it attached to the upper wings. Cheers, Tom 4
Administrators JeroenPeters Posted November 15, 2016 Administrators Posted November 15, 2016 Very cool and thanks for the construction tips! Love the masking you have done here. 1
Uncarina Posted November 16, 2016 Author Posted November 16, 2016 Jeroen, Thank you very much! I loved building this kit. Cheers, Tom
Torben Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 Much inspiring work, Tom. The decals snuggled in perfectly. Also I like that you did not accentuate the panel lines too much. Results in a pleasingly overall look. 1
tchwrma Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 Nice work! I'm waiting my own kit to start...This one is a very good reference! congratulations! 1
Uncarina Posted November 21, 2016 Author Posted November 21, 2016 It shows Tom, what a fantastic model. Cees, you are very kind! Much inspiring work, Tom. The decals snuggled in perfectly. Also I like that you did not accentuate the panel lines too much. Results in a pleasingly overall look. Thanks! I used masks for most of it. Nice work! I'm waiting my own kit to start...This one is a very good reference! congratulations! Paulo, Thank you! I'll look forward to your build. Cheers, Tom
tchwrma Posted November 22, 2016 Posted November 22, 2016 The only bad thing that I found in the Special Hobby kit is the absence of the "Le Grand Charles" decal. But even with this the kit is excellent. Mine is to be delivered this week at my home. And then I will analize it to decide what afters I will buy. At least the resin mengine and the engine covers, plus the Big ed, for sure. I'm nutz to start mine. I'm a big fan of Pierre Clostermann, and could not let this kit escape... Cheers, Paulo. 1
Uncarina Posted November 23, 2016 Author Posted November 23, 2016 Paulo, For whatever it's worth, I've seen photos of this aircraft with and without the "Le Grand Charles" inscription. In any case, your build will be stellar. Cheers, Tom

In any case, your build will be stellar. Cheers, Tom Clostermann had two tempests coded JF-E. The nª NV774 and the NV724. The NV774 has no inscription. Only the NV774 was called "Le Grand Charles" and has the inscription. This is NV774: And this is NV724: Cheers, Paulo.
Uncarina Posted November 25, 2016 Author Posted November 25, 2016 Paulo, Actually they are the same aircraft, NV724; a higher resolution version of your first pic shows this. His earlier Tempest didn't carry the same markings. Hope this helps, Tom http://www.axis-and-allies-paintworks.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?8525.10
