ONI 208-J

Not directly model related but interesting nevertheless. Some of you know what a "ONI 208-J" is but for the unlearned among you (LOL) they were recognition manuals the US Navy used in WW II to enable our forces to ID Japanese merchant ships. I'm fortunate enough to have two in my collections. The top one is from 1942 and the bottom one is from 1944. :)

Brilliant John, I have some original HMSO publications during the war, my father kept them, I must photograph them a post them.....

I've enjoyed reading books about US submarine ops in WW II. They would frequently mention using these manuals and that made me want to get some. I'm very pleased to have these! :)

Yes, they are rare. I found 'em on ebay. They show up there from time to time.

That is just very cool, and a HUGE part of our history.................. good find , and it's great some of us are preserving history... good catch John, and VERY interesting............................... as I have never seen one , can you take a pic of one of the pages, please?.............. I am assuming it is similar to the aircraft recognition books, and like the ones we see in the movies eh?

THANKS John, that isn't exactly what I thought it was going to be, much more information there than I was thinking....... My thought was just a silhouette with minimal information, this is WAY better................. very cool...... thanks for preserving this sort of thing..... I try to do the same.... most interesting stuff for sure..... now to research each ship to find it's fate......
