Eduard P-39 cockpit. Stuff has dried. cured. set up. I only use liquid cement styrene to styrene, which means things need to sit and wait. I bought the Eduard 3D printed seat. It does not look like the seat the kit comes with, which represents the metal style. The printed seat is the composite style, which is not Bakelite, but is sort of a bad epoxy brown color just like bakelite. The kit metal seat is fine, no real need to replace it but I did it anyway. Looking at it in place though, it doesn't sit as well as the kit seat. At which point I realized that the mount behind it isn't included. So that was the next scratch build project. Next I became aware that this plane has no radio. Easy. But what does the radio deck look like without it? The inter webs were not helpful. So I searched WW2 radio mounts. Found some photos and made this. I had bought some colored styrene without realizing it was transparent as well... And installed.

If that is the case I wonder if they are using something other than styrene? Maybe PETG. Which doesn't sand well.

You need finer sand paper then. Like 400 grit and then smooth with 600. The maybe polish the edge with really fine paper if it's visable. Slow. I said it was slow. lol

One thing I should have mentioned. I would be interested in an Atlantic scheme Avenger. Very different look from the non spec blue usually covering them. I plan to build a Wildcat in this scheme someday.

I'm not running an aviation museum, despite the appearance that I have one... So I tend to stick to planes I like. The Avenger is an important part of WW2 history, made a significant contribution, but it's just not that interesting to me.

Surprising they would not pull the engine out for this. Heads /cylinders off is not really maintenance, that's overhaul.

More P-39 stuff Waiting on stuff to dry for the cockpit so wheel wells now. The lids don't fit great. I could probably have left it alone but I didn'tStrip added, hide that gap. My photo is not clear, but there has to be a flange in there somewhere.Not 100% accurate, but it 100% better than what I was supplied with. Next question is all Bell green or the roof in Zinc chromate with bell green doors? My ref photo has the later.

I used to build 1/43 scale cars. They always have clear parts to cut out and fit. Tape and sandpaper are your friends here. Tape the area you are holding to prevent scratches, then cut the part close to but not exactly to fit. Then do the final "trim" with sandpaper. It's slow, but much better for a precise fit. Stick the sand paper to a block or use a sanding stick. Go slow, and keep the block/stick 90 degrees to the plastic so you get a square edge and less likely to slip and scratch the clear.

The rivets really are the final touch on that piece. it looks so plain without them.

The other thought, and I have seen it done, mostly on 1/43 scale cars, is a dead flat paint job. The idea being that you wouldn't see the shine at the scale viewing distance. Idk, maybe you don't buy scale distance, but I have seen some nice race car models with a flat finish.

Yes. Race cars, like super models getting ready for the cat walk, are fused over by their various servitors (40K, please forgive. lmao) So they are as perfect as possible before they get clipped by another car, or trip over their own dress, and ruin everything... Overall, then, it needs to start at clean, glossy finish. Which differs from a WW2 aircraft which I doubt, and have proof that, they didn't have perfect finishes. In both cases you could use a bit of grunge to hide a sin or two. But the car should start off looking as pretty as possible.

Not always. They can be finished as "post race" dirty and beat up. My Porsche 911 RSR will be finished this way. I have a reference book of photo's taken post race so all the dirt and wear is documented. Not everyone's cup of tea, but I think it will be fun.

I bet the JU is more likely. They have yet to venture into twins. But a metal wing Hurricane is almost surely the next thing. They will follow the Spitfire plan and milk those molds for all they are worth. And / or a backdate of the K-4 into a late asymmetric cowling G

It's not a metal wing. Early, fabric. Otherwise they would not be offering the two blade prop and all the other early items. The pattern that they are establishing with their Spits would suggest that they will use this as a jumping off point for a metal wing version in the future.

Which one? ZM or Takom is more accurate? I was never going to buy the ZM add on. I don't trust thin resin castings. I've seen that go south too many times.

It does. Similar to the ZM kit but without the detail inside the wings. I noticed the slide molded nose also. Very slick. The "B" nose is also slide molded. Curious that ZM is now also preparing a kit version of the "B".

So I waited, as I do like the strike Valkyries, but I wanted the standard version. It's ridiculously big, even without all the fast-packs and ordnance.

Interesting. It's certainly possible. You can see the buck in one of the garage shot in Ford Vs Ferrari. Not that that's any kind of proof, Hollywood screws up stuff like that all the time.

X-Plus 1/8 Red Sonia. Another company I really like, but again, have yet to build one of their kits. I read all the Conan books I could get my hands on when I was a teen so this was another obvious must have for me.

1/72 Battroid VF-1S. I love these Valkyrie's. Palmax kit seems really nice but I have yet to build one.
