1:32 Hasegawa Bf 109 G-6/R6, Yellow 4, 3./JG300

Hot damn, that looks damned good! I remember asking you about your tire painting when you built the Tamiya Spitfire Mk.IX, and no matter how much I try to emulate your painting on tires I cannot get results anywhere close to yours. Brilliant stuff, this model looks absolutely fantastic. -
I have read some very good and informative tips from you today, thank you so much for taking the time to document and share them with us!

BRILLIANT! I all most certainly use this technique, have tried to come up with a similar solution for a while. I like yours very much.

Very interesting idea, I like it! Simple and effective- the perfect combination.

Never seen this one done before, a real piece of eye candy. Bravo on a stunning build!

Incredibly detailed tutorial, thank you so much Peter for sharing your techniques with us. I have some of this shim stock on my bench, never tried these techniques before but certainly will now!

Nice save Ralph! So happy you didn't have to start over as she looks spot on now. -
Hasegawa Bf-109G-6 finished!

Thank you, I almost did- kept pushing (especially the first scheme as I have always liked that one) hoping it would work out, but I kept getting that feeling that something just wasn't right. I am quite happy I did what I did with this one! -
Very impressive, love those late 109's!

Cheers Ralph, I love seeing your AB work and this one is no exception. Pity the actual plane looks a bit different, what are your plans at this point? Seems a bit of a shame to cover up such beautiful work, hope it doesn't come to starting over. -
Hasegawa Bf-109G-6 finished!

Thank you Steve, I pushed on with the first two schemes, but was never really satisfied with how they were turning out. I'm sure in the end they could have turned out well, but I just wanted a "look" I wasn't seeing until the third incarnation. CHeers, and thanks mate! -

Cheers Mike, and thank you! You and I both are relieved to finally see her done, and thank you again for giving me that set of "red 6" decals, sorry it didn't work out in the end! i owe you one for that. You are too kind Dave, but thank you so much! Thank you Rick, much appreciated! Thanks a million Ralph, appreciate that! Thanks for looking in Jamme! Thank you, very kind of you to say! Thank you Tim, much obliged! I must say, I am quite happy with how it turned it out myself. This is one that I find myself admiring again and again in the display case. Thank you Bevan! Interesting you asked this- I thought about doing it as the decal scheme called for it. But it did say that the crew chief put it on the night before he was shot down by a P-38. I opted to model the aircraft the day before he applied as I liked how it looked without it better. Thank you so much George, so glad to hear you enjoyed it! -

A few more... Thanks for looking! -
Finished this one back in October, after a VERY long battle that lasted right up to the end. Three different paint schemes on the same model, a new record for me! I must say, I am getting quite good at stripping down a kit after nearly finishing it and starting over. This one started out as red 6 of JG 300, on to black 5 of JG 52, and stripped it again to do white 12 of JG 51. You can see the WIP thread here.

Tamiya P-51D
Daywalker replied to Daywalker's topic in LSM 1/32 and Larger Aircraft Ready for Inspection
Indeed! I like the fabric effect they give, and being a sort of fabric they are quite resistant to tearing. -

Thank you so much! I like using the $1 straps- fold over themselves nicely and look pretty scale too. -

Cheers, and thank you! It was so much fun I want to start another one (or two) LOL. Thanks Dave! For all of the weathering I used oils- mostly raw umber, black, and red with some other shades here and there for variety. Thank you Jamme, much appreciated! Cheers Mike, and thank you! Finishing up my big 109G-6 as we speak, so far it looks like paint scheme #3 is working out! -
Tamiya's 1/32 P-51D Mustang
Daywalker replied to Daywalker's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Yes, not exactly sure why but just cannot get excited about it. I do hope that changes, as I KNOW it will be a fantastic kit! -

Finished this one a couple of weeks ago- what an amazing kit! I never cared much for the P-51D until I built this kit- what an amazing piece of engineering. Painted with Alclad aluminum and Tamiya acrylics, weathering done with oils. I used HGW seatbelt hardware with straps cut from $1 bills, Barracuda resin tires, and an MV lens for the landing light. Decals are from Eagle Editions. Here's a link to the build thread, thanks for looking!

Tamiya's 1/32 P-51D Mustang
Daywalker replied to Daywalker's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Cheers Dave! I'm so sorry, I completely forgot to update this thread! I actually finished the Mustang a couple of weeks ago, and will start a thread in the finished section. Thanks for looking in and asking! As far as the Corsairs, I just cannot get into those- even though the Corsair is one of my all-time favorite aircraft. I am actually thinking about doing another Mustang- the kit is THAT good!
