Thanks everyone again. I appreciate the compliments coming from people way more talented than myself. Well gentlemen, it has been a while. My apologies for it being so long since my last post on this crazy build. I put it on hold for a couple of reasons. My eyes were going crazy with the PE and I was just PE'd out, so to speak. Not even a quarter done by my estimate. Also, the wood deck decided it wanted to bubble up and I had to strip it and buy a new one. Anyone have any idea how to keep this from happening? I washed the deck with soap and water then a bath in isopropyl alchahol. I had a hell of a time placing such large pieces, had to lift up and replace a couple of times. I think that had something to do with it. After I finish some major honey do lists, I will get back on this with renewed energy. silentman, I read your request but the model and instructions are stashed away. If you haven't solved your dilemna, I could pull it out and make a PDF out of them. Just been too busy. Let me know. Regards, Paul

Well, hello everyone. Man, it's been a long time. Sadly, my Missouri has been on hold. For a good reason though. I am in the process of building a 1/12 scale dollhouse for my granddaughters. Yep, you heard that right. True large scale model. I have a hard deadline of July 15th to ship by Aug 1st to Texas. After that, life begins again and the Mighty Mo' comes back out. I have made some progress since my last post. Hull is done and getting ready to throw paint on the upper decks and super structure. Holy c&%p, there is still a LOT of PE to do. My biggest problem is rigging, At this scale, it needs to be near complete but I can't find a detailed rigging guide to save my life.I bought a set of 1/96 drawings from Steel Navy?, I think. They only show a profile view with rigging. I'm not sure that will be enough. Any ideas? Thanks again for the great response. Paul

Hello All, Super busy lately at work, not much time for modelling. An update soon on my 1/200 Missouri. I had heard about the Buchon fighters but did not know the story behind them or who owned them. This is the gentleman that does own them and so much more. Contact Hasegawa and see if you can get the engine sprues from their 1/16 Camel kit. Or buy oa complete kit. Must be less expensive than the Model Expo kit. Paul

Thanks everyone. I really am glad LSM changed the format somewhat. This is a good thing. There is so much talent here and I have learned a lot here. I haven't posted here in a while because I have had my head wrapped around this build and the DeAgostini D51 locomotive (which will be posted here soon). The Pontos set for this kit is awesome, as you can see. Well laid out and designed. The instructions suck big time but they made up for it slightly by making it pretty obvious where the folds take place and everything is scored for the right fold and notched for interlocking parts. You do have to be careful with some folds because you only get one chance so this has taken a lot of time. Did I mention that the instructions suck? I am trying to get a painting sequence down because once the wood deck is on, there will be no more airbrushing. Still, a lot of this will be painted by hand, hence the sub-assemblies Thanks again, Paul

Thanks Martin, I appreciate that. Also, I decided NOT to do the individual rungs that came with the Pontos set. There must be 500 of them and each one requires 2 .012" holes to be drilled. Just ccould not wrap my head around that. My eyes and fingers cannot handle that any more. Paul

Folding and bending and a little too much glue in a few places. Unavoidable considering the miniscle attachment points. Hopefully the paint will blend some of them out. I found an old oak fireplace mantle someone left outside their house. Snagged it. This ship is 54" long when finished and the mantle is 60". Acrylic case on top of that will protect the Mighty Mo. Here is one of the stacks decked out with all her finery. I forgot to hollow out the pipes on the stacks. Here is part of the upper deck dry fit. And one of the turrets.

Hello everyone. Sincee the forum decided to change it's policy to enable some of us to show some of their non LSM work, I thought it was time to show my 1/200 USS Missouri. I got this kit for an unbelievable price from one of Squadrons big reduction sales. Actually cost less than the Pontos detail set. As most of you know, this kit is huge and loaded with plastic. No need to show the plastic as you have all seen plastic before. I am adding the Pontos detail set and 20 Veteran Models 40mm Bofors gun mounts Here is a shot of the Pontos detail set.Thiis is loaded with everythin imagineable. Brass turned barrels for all guns included. Here is the wood deck still in the bag, not coming out till needed. very thin and delicate. Here is hull assembled. That is a 24" scale sitting on top of the hull Since I started this a whils ago, I have done a lot. This is getting built as sub-assemblies and I am planning on building the complete ship as a dry build first. So much detail that won't be able to be added once I start gluing assemblies in place. No paint as of yet. Here is the stern float plane crane. Float plane catapults. So m uch detail on these it's crazy. Here is one of the radar antenna's. Mark 43 gun ranging antenna I beleive. Another Marh 43 and one of the main radar antennas. I am not a fan of PE, or wasn't a fan until now. OMG, I didn't want to start because I knew once I did, I had to do it all. I am committed my friends.

Unfortunately, I did not take a ton of pictures because I didn't anticipate posting this up until now. But it should give you an idea of what this magnificent kit is all about. Great Jim. I know it's not plastic but damn! it is a sweet kit. It has it's own challenges though but this thing is going together pretty well. It's HEAVY and I think that might be it's greatest challenge. Already broken it twice from handling it. Epoxy is the answer where you can get away with it. CA not so much and I am soldering where I think it will mean the most for longevity.

Please tell me you guys DID NOT ban Stikpusher from the forum. I was reading a thread where none of his posts were showing except the material quoted by other members. It looks to me as if LSM has become a forum of moderators and not a forum of members. How in the world does the forum expect to survive on such a limited view of modelling. Seriously? I am asking you guys as fellow members. What is going on? Someone asks about expanding the options concerning genres and is met with scorn. I do understand the forums rules and was willing to abide by them, up to a point. I love the idea of Large Scale Modelling. But aircraft and armor only? Be realistic. Haven't you noticed how many people have left? That the vast majority of posts are by moderators and not members themselves. There is a whole world of modelling going on that encompasses more than just aircraft and armor. A lot of very talented modellers build other things besides aircraft and armor. I thought I had found a home on LSM for precisely the reasons you guys espouse. Except for one thing. I build many different genres, including ships. Therein lies the problem. I do not want to post to other forums. I wanted to post to the forum that I decide to call home. I wanted to post and show off my work to people that I had become accustomed to calling friends, for want of a better word. Not strangers. I really don't have time to call more than one forum home. I don't need the attaboys either. This isn't just about ships either. It's about modelling, period. All of this smacks of elitism, I can understand where some people get this view. But as stated above, there are other things going on here. Trying to create a forum that smacks of quality, not elitism. I don't believe the elitism bit, but I can see where some people might get that idea. But it is exclusionary. Planes and armor, all the rest of you can go pound sand. Ban me if you need to, I am prepared. Because, frankly, I won't limit myself to such a narrow view of modelling. All the best my friends, Paul

Let me get this straight. You want more activity from armor? But no activity from anything else? Are you saying ships will cut into the room here for armor? To me they are mutually exclusive. A lot of aircraft modellers don't build aircraft and vice versa. So you want to grow the forum with more armor. Awesome! To the exclusion of anybody else that might build all genres. Awesome again! So, what bears are on the road? The only bears I see are those of exclusion. Grow the forum? Not at this rate. Sorry I don't agree. I have said this before. I build everything that catches my desire in modelling. I may not post here a lot but this is the only forum I post on. And this is one of the reasons I don't post here a lot more. I thought I was lucky to get to post my 1/35 Trumpeter locomotive. I am also building the Partworks all metal Japanese locomotive and have plans to do their 1/240 Akagi. Also doing Revell's 1/72 Flower Class Corvette. I am perfectly happy just building and not posting at all. But I am not the only one that thought this forum was one of the best there was.

I do think this is a great idea. I like to build many different types of models and dislike the fact that some are not allowed here. I said this before and will again. As a forum, we are alienating a large portion of the model building community. Large scale ships would be a wonderful addition to this fine forum. Large scale anything for that matter. I do believe 1/350 should be allowed but that should be the lower limit. Let's see some 1/35 mini-subs or 1/35 torpedo boats. Italeri comes to mind. 1/200 Arizona, Bismarck and Missouri. All large scale examples from both Great Wars! Now that would be "Large Scale Modeller". Paul

Well, an update on this is in order. Finally making some headway with paint and detailing. There is a lot of cleanup and pin marks on this kit just like Nige has to deal with. Here is a shot of the locomotive frame with air tanks and piping added. Note the plasticard added to the boiler supports. There would have been a huge gap under the boiler had I not added this. Here is the tender frame, almost finished. Wheels are painted and installed and the frame is painted. won't be long before the tender is finished. Here is a shot of the firebox and front wall with black paint only. The a couple of detailed shots minus weathering. And the seats after wood grain effect. That's all for now. Paul

On this one, I think I will live vicariously through you, LOL. Plus. at $750, I don't think so. And.........I would have to sell my motorcycle so I have room in the garage for this thing.

I also wanted to build one of these. Note that I said "wanted". It is crazy. Maybe it should be a team effort, a group build. I think Nige has knocked some sense into me. This would be way beyond my patience level. Damn nice review though, Nige. Paul
