Probably Gaz. It looked to me the P-61 pilot never saw the B-17 until impact if then.

I decided to try to save this build. I dampened some cotton balls with Alclad airbrush cleaner and swabbed it down. That removed nearly all the primer and paint. Now I'll re-prime with trusted Testor's Flat White then shoot some Alclad aluminum on it. Then I'll test to be sure the Alclad stays put. We'll see.

I've decided to pull that mother off the SOD and try to save it. We will see!
-
Wow! Never thought that would happen. Ya just never know.

Built Peter. Two Corsairs in the stash. One -1 and one -1D. No P-51's in the stash right now.
-
Yes but I don't want to fork out $150.00 for one.
-
LOL Peter. I just counted 'em and I have 17 1/32 P-51's including some SH P-51A's and a A-36. I have 17 Corsairs all Tamiya except for 2 Trumpeter. The mask for the fuselage stripes on this racer P-51 were mailed last Tuesday but haven't arrived yet.

No I did not Gaz. I don't think I've ever done that. Whenever I decide to resume the build I think I'll rub it down with some Alclad airbrush cleaner. THAT will remove all the old paint and primer right down to the plastic. It will also slightly craze the plastic which should give any future paint something to hold on to. If it screws up the model then so be it. I'll remove the AMS cockpit and probably use it for another build. I wanted a "C" in the 1st place but couldn't find one.
-
I think the problem was the Alclad primer. Apparently it just did not "meld" to the plastic. I hate to SOD it but it's just too much aggravation for me to contend with right now. I'll probably resume work on it later on but for now it's gonna stay on the SOD.

It was going along pretty well for a while but now it's a dead duck. Too bad as I was hoping it would be a really good looking NMF model.
-
You got lucky Carl. I was hoping I had this one sorted out but not so.🤪
-
I did some work on feathering out the bad spots then hit it with some flat white. When that was dry I sprayed some Alclad aluminum. It was looking okay but I decided I better do some "testing" on the whole model "just in case". Here are the results. SOD for this one. Enough is enough.

I was right to worry about paint peel off. Now I have to smooth out the jagged peel off areas and re-paint. I think the problem lies with the primer so I'll toss my Alclad Gray Primer and use something else such as flat white enamel which has worked well previously. The Alclad primer has worked fine previously too but not this time.🤪
-
Thanks Martin. I'll be sweating out the NMF! Fingers crossed none will pull off when the masking tape is removed. Some of the primer HAS pulled off so we'll see what happens with the NMF. Since I plan to use several shades of Alclad it'll have plenty of opportunity be a problem. 🙄

Thanks Carl. That's what I had in mind. I'm hoping there won't be any problems when I mask over the NMF.

Happened this afternoon at the Wings over Dallas airshow. Mid air with what I THINK is a P-63. Both destroyed and everyone killed as far as I know right now.
-
Thanks. Partially primed. I need to fix a couple of seams then prime the whole model.

Fisher F9F finished

Thank you Kevin! I'm pleased with it too. Now if I could only get the drooping wings on the twogar straightened up I'd get it built. I've tried and tried with marginal luck so I finally put it back in the box for "later". 🤪 -
Thanks! That AMS cockpit and seat add a lot to the model as the kit ones are pretty spartan.
-
Thanks Kevin. An easy kit to build with few problems. The only real fit "problem" was the two intakes but a little strip plastic and some putty fixed that right up. I plan to attach the wings and tail tomorrow.
-
Progress as of today. About ready to attach the wings, exhaust setup and rear fuselage. The exhaust is from ResiKit.
-
Thanks Carl. I think so too. In NMF it really looks good.
